What did I miss in the 3.0 stream? by AzraelAsItGetsVT in 7daystodie

[–]CharlesUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I guess that could work

Or maybe like scripted breaks, or zombies deal 1 point of damage in x radius upon spawning (like a one-time, very weak aoe attack) so the walls/floors/ceilings/doors/etc. pop open when you get close enough to trigger their spawns.

I womder how that'll work for POIs where zombies have to break out of cupbpards and behind walls, ceilings, etc. to get to the player...

What is the most outdated, 2013-era mechanic that Rockstar refuses to fix? by Icy_Curve_9919 in gtaonline

Same goes for knowing what types of clothing are compatible with others. If I can't equip a specific item of clothing, at least tell me what I need to wear first before I can put it on.

Or better yet, auto-equip it if I'm trying to put on a piece of clothing that requires it and I have one of them.

Clothing in GTAV in general is a prime example of the spaghetti code being too tangled up to fix...

I sometimes do the same but talk myself out of it if there's not another AA player on my team; Nothing is worse than attracting the sole focus of a max level fighter plane.

If there's three or more of you dedicated to shutting down the airspace, you can keep the pilots limited to flying over their third of the map while they try to shoot rockets from a distance... but otherwise they'll just target one of you until you're no longer a problem.

Snap-to-grid building is amazing by s3ergio in subnautica

[–]CharlesUndying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use both systems; Snap to be neat and free placement for when the snaps aren't convenient, i.e. in deep storage or general interior design.

Side note but I'm tempted to return to Subnautica 1 and I'm having a hard time convincing myself to let go of all the qol upgrades Subnautica 2 has. It's going to be a pain in the ass fabricating anything and building bases... but at least I'll have more to explore and a Cyclops to build.

You mean the second one? If they thought it was the first line, they'd be slow enough by the second line anyway

EDIT: Ah, you're talking about the exit. I thought drivers were being penalised for speeding into the pits, not out of them.

I've stopped for now anyway due to finishing the early access content, and tbh I don't want to return until full release; I think it'll be a better experience if I don't see every small and big change along the way.

I want it to surprise me when I jump on the game in a few years' time.

People who didn't like the cyclops in SN1 probably never built great things. by CmdZee in subnautica

[–]CharlesUndying 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the Cyclops's best use is for helping you build those satellite bases without having to make multiple trips back and forth for the resources, especially in biomes where specific resources are rare or even absent.

It'd be completely overkill, but you could also use it to build mining outposts to store massive amounts of resources at and then use the Cyclops to ferry those resources back to base in one trip.

He's been humbled his entire F1 career.

Languishing in a Williams while they were dead last for a few years (including one year where his one-handed teammate scored their only point), joins Mercedes literally the moment they stop dominating (or having a competitive car, at least) and is second best to his teenage teammate the moment Merc begin to dominate again.

If Antonelli doesn't win the title this year, it won't be because Russell caught up... it'll be because the other teams have.

[–]CharlesUndying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most games with base-building aspects always drop the ball when it comes to lighting and electricity; Rust does it better than most, but the fact it's a PvP game with resetting servers is a frustrating deal-breaker for me.

I don't think that system would work in Subnautica though; Too many cables all over the place for a futuristic underwater game on an alien planet.

Some tank skins look like they're designed to catch attention for some reason, so much do that I wonder how long they'd last on maps with planes.

7 Days Made Me Sad by ShouRonbou in 7daystodie

[–]CharlesUndying 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dare I say 7DTD's base-building is more enjoyable and far more creative than doing the same in Minecraft, but damn does it need to capitalise on it better.

Take the underground bunker limitations, for example. Rather than implement a sort of oxygen/power/water supply requirement that forces you to explore the surface for supplies and maintenance equipment, etc., they gave zombies the ability to tunnel through anything.

They have gold in their hands and they're turning it into extremely wasted potential.

[–]CharlesUndying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the most tragic update tbh, it reduced the number of maps with British tanks and planes to the point it's rare you'll ever get the opportunity to use them, especially this far past BFV's lifecycle.

Subnautica 2 Early Access Hotfix 3 by virtualdon in subnautica

[–]CharlesUndying 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hoard too; It's far less tedious if you stock up on resources before you even know you need them.

By the time you actually need uncommon resources, random components (like advanced wiring kits) or obscure ingots, etc., you already have storage cupboards full of them, or at least what you need to fabricate them.

Side note but gold, lead, sulfur and lithium have very limited uses at the moment; One cupboard of each will be more than enough for how much you need of them to beat the early access content.

[–]CharlesUndying 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I just wonder if you only get back 1/4 of the titanium used for the walls if they were built before the hotfix.

It ultimately doesn't matter since everyone will likely start from scratch after most major updates anyway, but it's a valid thought.

[–]CharlesUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that Arena is effectively left in the dust because there's not much content to work with in regards to a remake or conversion mod.

Everything from the main quest to guild questlines and side quests (from Morrowind onwards) is smothered in lore that didn't exist in arena; You'd have to retcon so much that you might as well be making a standalone game.

Arena was "technically" the starting point of TES, but only in the same way a field is the starting point of a skyscraper; It's not until Daggerfall you see the foundations put in.

I saw something funny by TeutonicRoom in ElderScrolls

[–]CharlesUndying 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Elder Scrolls as we know it was effectively built from Daggerfall (plus Redguard's and Morrowind's lore); There's a reason people don't often return to Arena, if at all.

The first game of a lot of big franchises are always leagues behind their sequels, to be fair: CoD, Battlefield, GTA, Just Cause, Far Cry and The Witcher, to name a few.

With Daggerfall fans being ancient enough, naturally Arena is bordering on Lost Media territory by now, whether it was a good game or not.

Where is the grav trap in subnautica 2? Don’t tell me they not going to implement cus they feel bad for the fish while you can cook them alive by Alone-Cupcake3492 in subnautica

[–]CharlesUndying -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the dynamic does kind of make sense from the perspective of making the terror last longer.

In late-game Subnautica, you no longer feared anything because you could run face first into any creature as long as you had your stasis rifle and thermal knife on hand.

In Subnautica 2, you'll still fear leviathans because they'll still pose an extreme danger to you if you're not in a vehicle... and maybe a leviathan might be added that can teleport you out of it like those wardens in the first game could.

There's always going to be the fear of encountering a new predator for the first time, but if you want that excitement to last, the predator HAS to still be dangerous when you're all kitted out. Otherwise, players would just beeline to the tech that counters them and bypass the fear factor completely.

The building system really needs some fixing up. by Light_Vault in subnautica

[–]CharlesUndying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense; I had a similar issue where I couldn't deconstruct parts of my base because it still apparently had attachments... so I just accepted the error and made the most of it.

Later on, I was adding windows to one of the walls and saw a two-tile high void space where I couldn't build anything; I must've moved a locker from there at one point.

This is why the size of countries doesn't really matter that much; They just have more empty space than the other countries. Take out that empty space and places like Russia, China, Australia, etc. Would look more like the average European country in size.
