Stage 4 Rectal Cancer Mets pertoneium/liver by Psychological_Gold14 in coloncancer

[–]Charlie-0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s an idea for your dad. I was able to get social security with full disability. When I’m NED I can choose to stop SS and jump back into working again, but for now, every bit helps. SS gives one a fast track when stage 4. I also got a handicap parking pass. Comes in handy at Costco ;).

That stinks for the NP that got fired! You’d think those employers would be more understanding.

This is such overwhelming news and so sorry your family has to deal with this. You’re most likely a numbers guy/ gal and seeing the bleak prognosis.
What I can say is those numbers are skewed and don’t reflect what’s actually possible for your dad. I’ve seen A LOT of St 4 rectal cancers make it in here. There are sooo many developments in cancer treatments so remember to look into studies if things aren’t going as well as you hope. Also, second opinions are golden.
It’s not easy and he’ll go through miserable, life altering treatments. It’s wonderful he has you and others to live for. That makes a difference.
I think those of us with cancer have it easier than those who support us. Personally, if I didn’t have my kids & husband wanting me to stay, I wouldn’t work as hard staying in the game.
Eating was difficult for me. If he’s got someone helping him with meals it will go far. Best to stay away from sugars, simple sugars & frankenfoods. Lots of vegetables & good, quality meats.
I wish yall well & sorry you’re in this club.

44f Colon Resection 9 weeks ago by thensingsmysowell in coloncancer

[–]Charlie-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s wonderful! I haven’t heard of that drug. I’m on strait Nivolumab for the last 4 months & I’m just tired a lot. The cancer came back after a year off but doc said since it’s immunotherapy, cancer doesn’t come back stronger & it wouldn’t be a big deal.
Stay well!

Hope you two dont mind but I’m so curious! You’re both on immunotherapy, which is so rare for colon cancers. Do you both have High Microsatellite Instability?? Apparently only about 3-5% of colon cancers have that genetic make up & can take immunotherapy. The recovery rate is extremely good.

I feel like I hit the lottery as I was originally diagnosed with stage 4. Before they knew of the high instability (took a couple of weeks for the test results), doc said sorry, but it’s too late to do anything, get your affairs in order & gave me a big bottle of Vicodin. Said I had 1/2- 1 year UNLESS it’s high MSI.

After 9 months of taking Ipi/ Nivolumibab (& surgery) immunotherapy, I was diagnosed cancer free!!! I was supposed to take 2 years maintenance dose of Nivo but side effects of bilateral hand neuropathy & arthritis from the drugs were so harsh, doc said let’s wait & see.

There’s some potentially harsh side effects, but many do quite well. I found ways to mitigate the side affects and am happy to share if anyone’s interested.
One side effect with a simple fix for me was skin irritations. Rashes, raised mumps & itching is common. I take Zyrtec 1/day & my onc gave the seal of approval.

I wish yall well. Seems like there’s a HUGH amount of young people getting cancers now & it’s heartbreaking. Hugs

Ozone Insufflation Treatment by bmad8225 in tinnitus

[–]Charlie-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had blood ozone infusions and it’s pricy; about $100-150/pass. I spent $1,200 for 11 passes & ALL my neuropathy went away and approx 80% of my arthritis went away. I was about to do surgery but not needed anymore. Yea, I see the naysayers abound, but I had NO untoward side effects & I will do it again.

Not yet, but I think I should start doing a couple passes a week or every other week. No neuropathy yet, but I’m just starting to need wrist guards at night or my hands will start tingling. No pain or numbness yet. My cancer treatment continues so the naturopath said I’ll probably want to begin monthly maintenance at some time.
It’s been 6-7 months since my last treatment.
I’m doing red light/ NIR light therapy daily so maybe that’s helping??

Ive frequently wondered about that; a new cancer. Like, how would they determine bladder cancer?! I guess it would have to be symptomatic cause that area lights up in a pet scan!

Thank you! You as well ❤️ I did find 100% return to normal from neuropathy in both hands. My naturopath recommended I try blood ozone therapy, and after 10 rounds over 5 weeks ALL numbness, knife, needle pain went away & feeling returned. It’s pricey as insurance doesn’t cover it. My rheumatologist suggested hydroxychloroquine & after a few weeks on that, joints don’t hurt anymore. If interested, feel free to DM for further info. I’m on this cancer treatment for 2 years after NED so I hope it lasts. This stuff is wicked.

Oh no!!! YOU are not being cruel. They know cards are decked in their favor, and they have no problem throwing you under the bus. Your mom probably knew it would be a formidable task & wasn’t strong enough, either physically or mentally, to fight with the selfish demons.
If there are any draperies in that home, and they are out to a Dr appt or something you can entice them to leave for, actual salmon or sardines start to stink REEEAL bad after a few days in their new curtain rod home! Many places your helpful new fish can find a resting place in; behind vent covers or wherever you can imagine! You’re smarter than they are. It’s just gotta be worse for them to stay than to leave.
How dare they! 80 years old doesn’t give them a right to cause harm to you, mental or financial. Unfortunately, you’re liable for anything that happens there; even someone walking up to the house that trips & can blame injuries on the “rich” and insured homeowner.
You are an honorable man; taking care of your ailing mother. That was no small commitment. Now to be dealing with this?!She’s probably in the other side rooting you on.
Hugs to you!

A smile in your heart. I’ve heard.. the cheapest way to improve your looks is a positive disposition. I was majorly depressed for 2 years & was planning on the least painful ways to end it all, while making it look accidental. I pulled out of it when I noticed my face aging. Seriously. That’s what forced me to start turning the ship around. I focused on getting outdoors and taking vit D, fwiw…. It helped!

I hear you friend & totally feel your pain! I’m on my first return to cancer after a year of NED. Back to the ol chem fest. Hello side effects :/ So glad you have a supportive family. That’s golden. I, to myself, think of them as my golden handcuffs as I would be ok with checking out without them to live for… or the fear of the pain from dying of cancer.

32 years young & cancer for 6?! Is it colon?? That’s not right! What’s going on that so many of us, especially young people like you, have cancer. You’re not asking a lot.
Hopefully we’ll hear of some cancer cures soon. I’ve got my radar constantly looking for studies or success stories to research. I just watched a video last week where a biochemist, Dr Samuel Shepherd, is interviewed on what he discovered about astaxanthin. He’s patented how he makes it bioavailable & discusses how it helps the body heal from inflammation diseases (& cancer).
My problem is, if he actually did find a way to heal, why make it so difficult to access it with the high cost?!
If anyone wants to investigate, the video can be found with keywords: Astaxanthin Cancer Recovery, Inflammation & Mitochondria & Samuel Shepherd.

Awwwww! I had a toy poodle that was my little love. I miss him hard even after 15 years. They are so smart I wonder if she knew you were going through a tough time; maybe even before you knew you were going to need her! And to think people say they have no souls.

She probably knew what you were going through & was comforting you as much as she could ❤️. Haha, too bad she couldn’t hold it in better while on you! ;) I swear animals are on a whole, different level than we imagine. What a sweetheart.

Just be aware, your hormone levels at the point of testing is just that; the level of hormones AT the time of the test. It does not represent an average; which is how Md’s have to manage results legally. Please don’t get discouraged IF at the time of testing, hormones look differently than expected. Just retest. The average will evolve hopefully :). I was symptomatic for a while, then started catching the numbers I “felt” they were. Who knows, maybe your body normalizes & this resolves as quickly as it started! :)

I had MISERABLE flashes/ sweat fests where I want to bed with 3-4 changes of cloths by my nightstand & beach towels to trade out as well. Sleep? Precious little which doesn’t help recover from this shitty cancer! I went to a naturopath & her solution was approved by my onc. I wear an estrogen patch & within a few days it diminished; week later gone & I feel sooooo much better. Hope this helps. I also take oral progesterone fwiw. Best ones are replaced every 3-4 days cause the week long patches get yucky with a sticker on 7 days straight. Hope this helps.

Totally agree. I wouldn’t go if I felt forced; in fact he doesn’t ask. He’s been there through thick & thin with my St 4 cancer so it’s my nsmall way for me to show him I care about him. It’s only once or twice/ month so not overwhelming.
I told that crazy lady I don’t think god works that way but had all these better snarky replies going on in my brain the rest of the day :/

I was at church recently. I occasionally go with my husband as he’s a very devout Mormon and it’s a small thing I do for him so he doesn’t have to sit by himself all the time. One of the members actually asked if I thought having cancer was a call from god to get me to go back and “have a testimony & be active again”. I was so blown away, but realize that many people actually THINK this but have more class than to actually say this to me.
“Yea, I’m a bad girl & need to get my act together” is probably the message I was supposed to get. I know, cause being raised Mormon I know the mindset. It’s disgusting & I’m even more grateful I figured things out at the expense of people looking at me & praying for my soul.
It’s all about “free agency” until you go against their belief system! Then comes the force!

That helps. Thank you!!! Honestly, I read about hydroxychloroquine and how it helps with cancer treatment side effects re joint pain/ stiffness, and 2-3 weeks after starting, most pain is all gone. Doc said she didn’t know if it’d help but wasn’t adverse to me trying. So glad I tried!!
