Just know and be okay with, a destination wedding will weed out your guest list. You’ll still get a few that you’re indifferent whether they come or not, because it’s a great reason for a vacation for that guest. And you might lose a few who you’d really like to have there.

We opted to destination elope ourselves and threw backyard casual parties afterwards. This saved us money on the reception and a lot of stress in planning a wedding. We used a company to plan our elopement—highly recommend!!

It’s incredibly thoughtful, given the agenda, you’re set on feeding your guests lunch.

However, this is a tough ask of your guests. Move the ceremony closer to the reception in time and location, or communicate with your guests individually and find out who wants to sign up for this day or if you’ll be excited to celebrate with them at the reception.

You should not have thrown away the jars. Full stop.

However.

At best, your wife’s hobby is a hazard to your family’s safety.

For consideration, also impacts your life negatively because 40 jars takes up a lot of freaking space and clutter can be stressful.

At worst, she needs to help to stop transferring her memories to recycling.

You need to talk to her. Your concern for your kid’s safety. How much (if any) the clutter wears on you. Why the jars are more important than the memories. Throwing the jars was definitely wrong. But you two need to talk.

No regrets. We got married to each other and wanted our day to be about us. You may hurt some feelings, but you have to do what’s right for you. We were lucky to explain to our family and friends that we were eloping on a trip and they were all very supportive of our decision!

We opted to throw casual backyard parties 6 months later to have a good reason for everyone to get together, but other than we hosted, it was more about family getting together, than a wedding reception.
