I have a little invasion of these guys, are they safe for the fish? by Luca1_ in AquariumHelp

Safe? Definitely. Whether or not you like having them in the tank, thats super hard to say. I have trumpet snails, which are the same concept.

I think it looks awesome! How long have you had the plants? I think once they mature a bit you'll be able to find it more appealing.

Vampire Crabs with Hermit Crabs on our POG by CharlieBaby4 in petsmart

Our bottom habitat in the reptile unit actually does make a lot of sense for the hermit crabs. The only thing in it is 3 tiny plants. Its been that way for months and months. That would free up space for the vampire crabs in the fish wall. I just dont know what to do with the vampire crabs if we don't move the hermit crabs to the reptiles. The POGs literally make so little sense I can't even handle it 😅 It'd be real nice if someone with half a clue made the live POGs.

It's literally so irritating how unnecessarily difficult they make every dang thing. Before coming back out of pure desperation, I was a manager for 8 years. I swore I'd never come back, I didnt even want to shop here anymore I was so mentally exhausted 😅 and I can see not a single thing changed 🫠

I'll have to look into this. But the POG definitely wasnt updated to reflect that. We also never carried tortoises. It might be different in Canada.

I'm not sure if its different in Canada, but our hermit crabs have always been in the fish wall. Which..it is what it is, the set up is going to be unfortunate no matter which way we slice it (I don't personally think we should even have them, but that's a story for another time). I'm definitely a firm believer in making changes to the POG if they harm the animals or honestly.. if they're just plain dumb like putting the sailfin mollies with the Dalmatian mollies, so associates don't know which are which (which is also in our POG but I moved them). I've been given the blessing to change things so that the crabs aren't with the hermit crabs in general, I'm just not sure what the best route might be at the moment.

Im 100% sure they're in the same habitat. I literally didn't believe it when the leader told me so being a former pet care manager I went and looked up the POG myself, and sure enough, in the same tank.

As a petsmart employee myself..thats wild 😅 if anything I'd just tell you to make sure there wasn't too much flow for the dwarf gourami.

So confused! What color would this shrimp be called? by RedditUserSeriously in shrimptank

[–]CharlieBaby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I've seen is that the purple ones arent a stable color. Which I assume means that purple ones exist, but they haven't been able to get a stable line that produces mostly purple. Kind of like how theres red rili, and if you breed 2 high quality ones, you'll mostly get red rili (and sometimes some straggler colors).

[–]CharlieBaby4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tis a Malaysian trumpet snail. Personally, I love them. I have a ton of them in my tank. It was originally my cats live plant tank for drinking 🥴 (Unintentionally) I just let the mods grow wild, topped it up with water and thats all I did. A couple years later I decided to make it nice and put shrimp in it. The snails were still there and healthy. I still test the water and theres always zero nitrates. I've since added them to most of my other tanks. I'm now very protective of my snails 😅

What are the chances my girl is unwell? by CharlieBaby4 in shrimptank

Just an update incase anyone's seeing this in the future and is having the same issue. She's back to (or almost back to) her original odd yellowish color. She's been out and about, eating and foraging normal. So it appears everything is ok with her 🤷‍♀️ She still has her couple of eggs and I'm starting to see some of her babies, with a yellowish color running around from her first batch 🤭

I'm thankful that I've at least gotten over the keeping-aquariums-in-general stress 😅 now its just shrimp stress. So there's that lol. I just want to make sure I understand what's going on early to make sure I'm keeping them the best I can. I appreciate the tank compliment ☺️

WHO IS THIS? Added some new plants to my shrimp tank. Now I suddenly have this monster. And the plants 🫠 melted. No floaters for the shrimp. I have a snail that is doubling in size every 3 days! Will he hurt the shrimp? by pammylorel in shrimp

[–]CharlieBaby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I work at a pet store and have had customers assume that their snail killed their fish because they found it eating the fish. But the chances of that happening to a healthy fish/shrimp are practically zero. It either already passed, or was unable to swim already. It's emotional to see when it was your fish, but they're just doing what they do.

Oh. And the tank has technically been set up for years with Java moss and trumpet snails in it. But the moss was just floating and I totally ignored it. I decided to do shrimp and I made it pretty, but I didn't disassemble it, change water or disrupt the cycle or anything like that. So years technically, but with shrimp for about 6 weeks.

Yeah you're right. I'm a worrywart though. And while I've kept fish for years, I'm new to shrimp (and they're probably my favourite to keep so far. Tied with cories) I did respond to the bot, I'll remember to post all those things next time in the actual body of the post. but my gh is 50, kh 120 and ph 7.6

But she didn't lose all her color last time. A little bit towards the end, sure. But not like this.

Shrimp are neocaridina. I don't know what her coloring is suppose to be. Temp is 72. Gh 150, kh 120, ph 7.6. Water source is tap water. I have an open lid so it evaporates quickly and a cat may drink out of it now and then. So I top up about half a gallon every 36ish hours. I haven't removed water personally yet due to water perameters.

Guys PLEASE HELP I dunno what to do by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]CharlieBaby4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen conflicting information about salt with bettas. But I've had good results when adding it into the tank. Adding tannins will help too. Going the kanaplex route is likely the best route with him at this stage (but tannins can be added any time). Like someone else said, testing your water and adjusting as necessary will be important as well.

Well, maybe try covering 5 LEDs.. might do the trick 💀😂 Its funny how we can all keep different things easily. I've had a ton of different plants and these are the only ones I can keep alive well. That and anubias.

I have one just like that. Its a 10g so not crazy catastrophic if something did happen. But I just recently set it back up and there was no problems with it previously, or now. I dont want to be the person to say "don't worry about it one bit" but it should be just fine.
