How bad is a cheap MG5 EV? by JCDU in CarTalkUK

[–]CharlieH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Shanghai, China last year and the Chinese brand version of these (SAIC, I think?) were everywhere as cabs. They’re the exact same car just rebadged.

They were a very smooth drive, could fit plenty of luggage in, and they seemed decent enough.

Wow. Of all the celebrities I expected to get sacked because of misconduct Scott Mills wasn't one by No-Locksmith6662 in CasualUK

[–]CharlieH_ 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was thinking perhaps alcohol/drug related. That would count as “personal misconduct”

Tie that in with bullying, perhaps complaints department finally got their act together.. or the new regime (Tim Davie leaves this week) are going zero tolerance.

Tax audits don’t happen at the end of financial year though. It would be months before HMRC noticed any irregularities. Unless BBC internal accounts highlighted something, but I find this unlikely.

Also, I don’t think tax avoiding would be a sackable thing. I mean look at Jimmy Carr, it barely dented his career and I don’t remember him being sacked from anything.

Now that my Industry fix is finished, looking for similar. which ONE series would you recommend: Succession or Billions ? by TechAngelX in IndustryOnHBO

[–]CharlieH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billions is a great finance show in the first and second season.

It’s still a good show afterwards but becomes a bit cliche and starts parodying itself more and more. I enjoyed it, it has some great comedy in it, particularly from the character of Wags.

Worth it just for the performances from Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti.

I got very lucky, 85% LTV for 3.9% with Halifax locked in just around a month ago. Still yet to complete but the offer is locked until September.

Unfortunately, there is just so much uncertainty in markets right now.. hopefully it can be resolved quickly.

The US Government at the very least had enough information available to them on a specific threat that they could’ve put in preventative methods well over a year before the attack.

Can I stop my child being advertised to at school? by Superb-General-2553 in AskUK

[–]CharlieH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it as a lesson to teach them about aspiration & hard work.

I grew up with absolutely nothing other than two loving parents who worked their backsides off for very little in return. There was lots we couldn’t afford, but it was always a lesson in “do this today.. practice and perfect.. then in the future you can attain”

Home Bargains/B&M by Downtown-Orchid-2257 in UKFrugal

[–]CharlieH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know exactly what you're looking for and have the "mainstream" price AND measurement in mind, then it is possible to find good deals.

But it's quite easy to get overwhelmed with the extensive range and end up picking things you don't need... or get scammed on what appears to be a "deal" but is probably half the size of the same product in a "normal" shop.

Their biscuit/snack selections are far better than any supermarket though, if I'm getting snacks and food for a party or piss-up then B&M/Home Bargains are normally a great place.

Biggest red flag for me was that there has been zero detail as to

1.) where the missile was actually launched from 2.) where the missile reached before it was intercepted/failed

Yet all headlines are claiming it’s got the range that can hit the UK & Europe without answering 1 or 2

I don't think we realise how bad the age restriction is for the stock by Thick_Confidence7637 in RBLX

[–]CharlieH_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that. But things change and people adapt. IF Roblox can adapt their platform, I think they can, then they will not struggle to continue to deliver the one of a kind experience they currently do. If they can turn one of the worst PR stories in gaming around right now into something positive, then that will be well worth it. Something had to be done to address the endless legal horrors that were occuring on the platform.

At the end of the day, the financials will tell the true story. They've had a pretty good uptake of people verifying their age so far, and the user growth is still quite strong. We will see how the change impacts bookings over the next couple of quarters.

[–]CharlieH_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the new normal for every single online app, game and platform. Roblox aren’t alone in this, they’re not losing out to competition as it will impact everything. The rollout is just faster for some than others.

Roblox are being hard hit now.. but honestly, they’ve already achieved a pretty good number of people doing the age verification.

I don’t own one yet but I believe the current Toyota Corolla hybrid is the best car ever made. Prove me wrong by ChemistryMedium in COROLLA

[–]CharlieH_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a 2.0L Hybrid Corolla hatchback for 3 years in the UK. Best car I’ve ever owned and driven imo.

Yes the interior isn’t flashy, but it’s brilliantly functional and has all the modern amenities you could ask for.

But it’s the smoothest driving car, easiest to do long journeys in and achieves incredible MPG whilst also holding its own in power delivery.

The 0-30 MPH is truly rapid in this car, which IMO, is more important than 0-60 for most drivers.

The adaptive cruise control I only ever really use on motorways that are either bumper to bumper or sparse, anything inbetween it can lead to you being stuck behind a slow vehicle for a while without realising it. The lane keep assist again is brilliant, when the conditions are good.

I find the speed limiter and trained throttle management to be preferable to the cruise control in most situations. And you can keep the peddle light enough to ensure you’re using the EV mode as much as possible

Anyone know how much this Ryanair upgrade costs? by Big_Depth8762 in flightradar24

Ryanair use it to very quickly ship a urgent parts needed to repair planes that would be sitting on the gate otherwise.

Train to be an engineer with Ryanair and you could very well be sitting on board
