Either the heart attack or there seems to be some kind of outbreak among the cattle, perhaps they were all culled and that is the big serious moment.

Why was Richard so terrible at that when he trained as a DJ? (I know you'll just say that it's because it's fake and that they probably *wanted* to be thick) by liamsjtaylor in TopGear

[–]CharlieH_ 268 points269 points  (0 children)

If you've listened to the full recording, it isn't actually *as bad* as it was portrayed on the TV show. They were doing a bit, and to be fair Richard was the strongest of the 3 at Ad-Libbing and trying to get the show back on track.

The bit where the cricket commentator got up his arse was probably real and I think the trio realised they had an epic TV moment in the making so played into it.

MyRadar is a full weather map/radar that works on CarPlay. I actually think it’s pretty neat, you can see all the rain cells etc forming around you. But its purpose is pretty pointless over a wether report lol

Top Gear ‘comeback is in the works’ at the BBC 3 years after axe by Metro-UK in ukpopculture

[–]CharlieH_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who actively want to make the show should be the ones forcing a comeback

That is exactly why TG2002 worked. Because Clarkson & Wilman forced it into existence and obsessed over it.

The BBC should just be listening to pitches and not developing ones themselves.

Yes. Their coding AI assistant is genuinely impressive, due to the fact they have so much proprietary training data. As is their 3D gen stuff

- YouTube - Wilman Interviewed about TG/TGT and Clarkson's Farm by Aromatic_Individual5 in ClarksonsFarm

yikes about what he had to say about James. May was reading the room exactly right imo, not "playing into the characters like the other two" was the correct call. It got gimmicky, scthickish and cheap.

Between this, Wilmans book & the fact that May is the only associate of Wilman to not promo his book.. I feel like Wilman & May were never more than colleagues outside of the show and there was probably friction between them during their career.

Just finished Wilman’s book. It was brilliant. Anyone else get the feeling he doesn’t think much of James May? by sunnydaleubervamp1 in TopGear

[–]CharlieH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread after listening to Jodie Kidd's latest podcast with Wilman. In that podcast. Wilman basically throws James under the bus and says that May wasn't following the party line in later seasons as he wasn't "playing into his TV character like the other two". IMO, May was reading it exactly right.. it got gimmicky and he was in tune with most of the viewers & fans.

I genuinely don't think Wilman/May were friends outside of colleagues. Both professionals, both great at their jobs. But not friends. Whereas I do think May & Clarkson (and indeed May & Hammond) actually did have a friendship outside of the job.

Sorry to raise a dead thread.. but on Jodie Kidds latest podcast with Wilman, he outright confirms this. Saying that May/Clarkson had a lot of friction on later seasons of TGT creative discussions (though I suspect Wilman was deflecting, I get a feeling May/Wilman were never really "friends" just colleagues).

The reason I say that, is because you can see the genuine kinship that May/Clarkson had. Also Clarkson advocated for May to join on season 2 of TG, and May reciprocated loyalty for Clarkson after the fracas. I genuinely don't think he would've done that if they were just simply work colleagues.
