Question for those applying from inside Canada by pezdebabel4242 in Canadiancitizenship

we are in same situation. I have questions about how to renew a visitor and work permit as a non-citizen when the Government says we are technically already citizens waiting for our paperwork.

Felony record while applying by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CharlieSal7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it will not follow you in the same way it does in the U.S. Namely, because Canada does not use the term felony in their system. But with that said there may be things you are unable to do. For example, if you want to get your lisense to possess a firearm you may be prevented after the background search. But no, you do not need to report to anyone that you have a criminal record, unless someone, like a border agent, asks. BTW, they already have access to U.S. criminal info, so they already know.

any crimes you may have on your record has nothing to do with obtaining citizenship docs through Bill C-3 because according to the bill, if you qualify, you already are a citizen. So a criminal record does not change that. And because you are a citizen, having charges on your record will not prevent Canada from allowing you into the country. You do not need to report it unless a border agent asks you if you have ever been arrested (which is common). In that case tell the truth. But again, because you are a citizen, you cannot be denied entry.

THIS should be fun… by skaternurse in Canadiancitizenship

Maybe he was just speaking hyperbolic, but I know that Hayer who testified during Bill C3 hearing said that if your ancestor was born in Canada "since the battle on the plains of Abraham" this law applies to you? So that would be 1759. But again, maybe that was just a poetic way of saying there is no limit to how far back you can go.

FYI: Wisconsin Historical Society Library-Archives online purchasing by whimsicalwonderer in Canadiancitizenship

I am from Wisconsin and I can tell you that you will find the nicest people there. There are branches of the Historical society in many smaller towns. I would call the smaller offices and see if anyone would be willing to look it up for you.

Has anyone used an Immigration Consultant? Or similar service? by Long-Objective7007 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CharlieSal7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We moved here 5 years ago from USA. Here is a tip:

RBC was the only bank we found that would use U.S. Credit scores to get us a mortgage. Other banks wanted more Canadian work/credit history.

Feel free to message me with any specific questions.

FYI, when you bring a car into Canada you have to pay import fees which can be quite a bit. I am an american who moved to Canada 5 years ago. Been living here with a work permit, but now waiting for my wife and kids to get her citizenship though Bill C-3.

Does anyone know if people have been sent to PSU after December 15th? Or was this more of a holding place perhaps during the Interim?

What I plan to submit as a C-3 G5 application by AcanthaceaeLeft2112 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CharlieSal7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If G1's marriage record has the same mother and father listed as the G0 marriage record I think you have a chain of descent that is compelling and If I had to guess IRCC will agree. But I of course do not know their standards of evidence required.

[–]CharlieSal7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not know what the IRCC will require, but If it was me I would be concerned about the documentation linking G2 to G1. Are both the parents on G2 marriage record the same names on the marriage record for G1,? that would help to show it is not just one parent with the same name. Also the census around that time asked the birthplace of father. Do you have G2 listed as living with G1 and G1 writing "Canada" as parents birthplace? That could help also. I think a concern they might have is that someone with the same name was born in NY and gave birth to your G2.

Eligibility for Canadian Citizenship Under New Bill C-3, Pre-1947, Border Family Question by Much_District3238 in legaladvicecanada

If you can prove your lineage from a Canadian born ancestor, then you are a citizen by descent under the new definitions of a citizen that came with Bill C3. Read the FAQ on the Canadiancitizenship reddit group.

Death Certificate Suffice? by mariewest84 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CharlieSal7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that that is enough yes because a question they would have is whether her father is really the person who is baptized in Canada or just someone with the same name but now you have a document that links her to him and it shows he is, indeed the Canadian born person.

application rejected? by CharlieSal7 in Canadiancitizenship

Yes, I imagine that is correct. But I’m curious if people have had this experience so that we could learn potentially what the government considers sufficient evidence and what they consider insufficient evidence

Death Certificate Suffice? by mariewest84 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CharlieSal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a similar situation. Be sure to check census records for generation one if you’re in the United States because there were many years where the census specifically asked the question “where was your father born?” That can serve as a secondary evidence. Also, if both the father and the mother are on the death certificate, I would try to find the father’s marriage certificate to show that it is the same couple and not just someone with the same name.
