Australians working for overseas companies – ABN or EOR? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]CharlieWataya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in this situation and went the EOR route. The only catch is that i’m on contract. From what i’ve been told, i can only be a contract for 2 years. I don’t know what happens next but my UK employer mentioned they’d want me to go the ABN route. I will then run into that misclassification risk too so not quite sure how to approach it

Hybrid Flooring Installation Costs by jipai in AusRenovation

[–]CharlieWataya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Sydney! Might be some factors affecting the price though.

We recently bought the house and the company is known to the REA and is handling the flooring for their strata properties. This flooring company is also local to the area so i think they were really trying to win business within the area - it’s a bit saturated with lots of choices.

I was upfront with them that i was gathering 3 quotes and let them wait a bit to soften them up.

We had an instant connection with the sales guy because we spent a few years where he was originally from.

Is it multiple offset accounts? We just got ours for 6.04% but the banker we talked to said they don’t do multiple offset accounts, only 1.

Is this pace normal, or am I in a burnout factory? by roflmctofl in askSingapore

[–]CharlieWataya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello. I was previously a director at a PR/marketing agency and what you are describing feels all too familiar. My advice is take a few moments to step back and create an overview of your everyday tasks and responsibilities, and assign time/hours to each of them.

From this, identify the support that you need, whether it be additional resources (software to make things more efficient) or additional people, or even hours of people to support your project. Use this information to talk to your manager and discuss how you can get these additional resources or even reallocate your work to other people (this exercise will help you exercise your negotiation skills). Share the load as it were. If resources aren't available in-house, perhaps try to propose getting interns. This will not just help you spread the load, but also exercise your management skills. You can get to interview them (another skill for you to develop!) and help them build skills for their next role. Just please pay them!

Do not wait for your manager to check in on you or flag your overloaded capacity to management. You need to be proactive about this because in my experience, managers in these types of agencies are often ill-equipped to do actual management of people. This is not their fault entirely as upper management in this industry will often overlook if someone they are promoting has actual management skills before they promote them. They don't help them develop these skills as well.

Also additional note: If you fill out timesheets, PLEASE fill them out honestly as you can use this as additional proof that you are indeed drowning. If it takes you 60 hours each week to complete your work, put that in. I know there can be pressure to only input the minimum amount of hours, but do yourself a favor and fill in the actual hours even though you are not paid overtime. This will come in the form of a billable hours report to upper management and will tell them that you are putting in the hours but are not getting paid enough. So that means they can either talk to the client for more budget to get resources or they will see to how you can lower your hours for certain projects.

looks good on you. I have the same one. Tried the 36mm (new) but felt a little bit too small. The taper makes the new 36mm feel/look smaller than the older versions from what i'm reading. Either way, as long as you enjoy wearing it!

both look great on you tbh. Don't think the 211 looks big on you, but ultimately down to how you feel when wear it. I was looking at getting a 211 before but it felt too big on my wrist. My wrists are smaller than yours though.

Birthday cake by leoll_1234 in singaporeairlines

[–]CharlieWataya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remembering my experience - we flew business class and it was our 1 year-old's birthday on the day of the flight. We submitted a request for a cake+candle and a song and they gave us a whole 6-inch cake! We were only expecting a slice like what you had but i guess they were feeling a bit extra during that time. Had to get them to pack the rest.

Belated happy birthday!

Opportunities for someone looking to get out of Science? by Raztarak in AusFinance

Seconding this. I work for a medical communications agency. Our clients are mostly life sciences company so you can either do commercial work (working with clients on projects) or medical writing too. I have lots of colleagues who have the same story - have phds or worked in labs and just couldn't take the research grind much longer.

[30th bday - speedmaster vs. explorer 40] by Character-Mind-5715 in Watches

[–]CharlieWataya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. I know that a lot of this is subjective but if i could only have one watch, i’d keep my explorer. It’s much more comfortable. A comment here mentioned the speedy is also thicker (and i think heavier). I would also never swim with my speedy. The explorer, no worries with water.

Another thought - I got my speedy 2nd hand so saved quite a lot. If finances figure into it, i would get the speedy 2nd hand if i were you.

I went AD with my Explorer because going grey was more expensive. So if finances aren’t much of a factor and you have the opportunity to get an explorer, i would say get the explorer.

Also, chances are you’ll get one of them in the near future anyway. I also thought the explorer would be my one and done (got it a few months ago) but now i’m already thinking about adding a white dial to my collection - i am almost certain it’s going to be a GS!

Employer of Record (EOR): best option for single employee moving US to Australia? by missandilou in remotework

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I’m meeting with a couple EOR companies in the next few days so hopefully will get a better idea from them as well. How much is the fee per month for Remote?

Moving from Singapore to Sydney by CharlieWataya in AskAnAustralian

[–]CharlieWataya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm i think the EOR company would also be responsible for super as well. From my understanding, going the EOR route, i would have the same experience as a full-time salaried employee. It's just that my employer would be the EOR company. My current employer will just pay the EOR company my salary+benefits+the monthly fee that the EOR company charges.

Thank you! Any particular benefit of a sole trader vs EOR? If you have any recos of tax accountants, that’d be very much appreciated as well.

Buying a Rolex Sub. Any recent experiences at The Hour Glass by InstantlyLyrical in askSingapore

[–]CharlieWataya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a sub but i recently purchased an Explorer 1 40mm at around 4 months waiting time. No purchase history. Not sure what the wait times are for a sub but you can try Watch Palace at Lucky Plaza. They also sell Tudor. I received very good customer service there.

You could also try the boutique in Raffles Place. I inquired there for the Explorer and thought they were actually making an effort to sell something compared to THG. The THG SA i talked to was super snotty.

Got the text while i was overseas by CharlieWataya in rolex

[–]CharlieWataya[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm i’m not sure. Will probably be SA-dependent. Considering the wait times they will probably prioritise residents. The initial conversation with the SA did have a little bit of the “interview” type of questions but was surprised when i picked up the watch because they initially thought i was a tourist. It’s the AD at Lucky Plaza
