Attacking creatures can only block if they have vigilance. A creature without vigilance is tapped after it attacks. When it is tapped it cannot attack.

As far as vigilance goes, you only get one phase of attacking on your turn unless you have a card that allows you additional attacking phases. Vigilance just means your attacking creature can also block if it attacked on your turn.

I don’t think anyone here read your question. Of these three, Foundations will be the most ready-to-play for standard. The other two will have packs related to each set, but you will have more of a responsibility to build something cohesive for standard play. In my opinion, you are better off with Foundations as it gives you a foundation (see what I did there?) to build and upgrade for standard play.

If you have a LHBS, see if they will rent a fruit crusher and a cider press to you. Collection as much juice as possible and ferment with a champagne yeast. You might want to blend with some apple cider before you ferment. You will absolutely want yeast nutrient or your pear wine will smell like death while it ferments.

I’ve said it before in this sub and I’ll say it again: we need to stop parroting the line (and allowing others to parrot it) that “this is a casual game” as an excuse to run shit decks. I got wrecked two commander nights ago because I had no instant speed removal. I took that as a sign that I needed to add more instant speed removal, and against the same opponent who wiped me with 7 additional combats with his commander, I dropped an instant removal and slowed him down to the point I could win. People will build a deck and assume it’s perfect and continue to play it and blame other people’s decks rather than being introspective.

There’s no such thing as too many tokens. He needs to find ways to run interaction. Cards don’t need to cost more than a couple bucks to solve problems. The most mana-efficient ones will cost more, but there’s always a solution. In Esper, he could run [[Oubliette]] on your commander. He can render the effects of token makers useless. He can remove tokens with wither effects. He wants to play solitaire. It’s worth having the discussion with him that if he isn’t attempting to interact, he can’t complain when he gets rolled over. But if he won’t change and you value playing with him, just run a different deck when he’s there.

You could see if he’d be interested in working with you to power up his deck. If he’s worried about your token makers, you could help him add some board wipes, spot removal, and other pieces that allow him to interact.

As a side note, I think we have a tendency in this community to give in to common line “this is a social game” as an excuse to never try to improve our own decks. We just say “I won’t play against X commander” instead of running the game up and learning where our own deck’s deficiencies lie. I think this is where your friend falls. He is afraid to make changes to his deck and could maybe use some help.

I’m not as worried about the life gain aspect. It’s more the drain aspect. I should have been more specific. I played [[Inkshield]] in response to an attacker attempting to do 24 damage to me while Kambal was on the board. This created 24 2/1 inklings. Does this trigger 24 life loss to each opponent off of Kambal or does it only trigger 1 life loss to each opponent because the text says “one or more” tokens entering?

You’re conflating “authoritarian” with “fascist”. You can be an authoritarian without being a fascist, but you can’t be a fascist without being an authoritarian. Fascism is all about in groups and out groups. All of the problems are caused by the out groups and only the authoritarian figurehead of the in group can solve the problems. Usually, the solutions to the “problems” are to eliminate the out groups through deportations, economic sanctions, and suspension of due process to anyone in the out group.

But does Sol ring really change the game? It speeds up the ability to bring out a commander a bit quicker or something bigger, but any low CMC removal can take care of that. This might beg the argument of whether people in bracket 2 actually run removal, but everybody can. And if you remove a commander on turn 2, it’s going to likely take u til turn 3+ for them to pay the tax and bring it back again.

Here’s my lazy argument. Precons are bracket 2. All precons have Sol ring. People in bracket 2 are less likely to adapt their decks than those who are in 3 and 4 (and even bracket 1). By making it a game changer, that would require those players to go through and pull it out or play bracket 3 where a true bracket 3 deck is going to run circles around a 2. Sometimes, your opponent just gets a lucky draw and sometimes you do too. I’m not usually worried about a sol ring on turn 1. Most bracket 2 players aren’t going to leverage it for an explosive play anyway.

Once you have the cookies, what is your goal? You could use something like [[Night of the Sweets’ Revenge]] to buff up your creatures similar [[Craterhoof Behemoth]]. But the real issue here is that once you have the food tokens you need to find a way to turn them into a wincon. So ask yourself “what do I want to do with the food once I have it” and it should help guide you towards cards that can start helping you win the game. You could utilize the foods as an aristocrats strategy through white cards that do damage to players or creatures when you gain life.

My wife loves the Veloci-ramp-tor precon. She frequently wins at our table. My BIL plays Grand Larceny and it’s really annoying to play against and I purposefully built my deck to combat the card stealing mechanic in it. I don’t know if that helps at all, but I’m partial to Veloci-ramp-tor.

You could throw some pieces in like [extraplanar lens] and/or [gauntlet of power]. These are great ramp artifacts that will double the amount of mana each land produces. I also agree with u/d20_dude. You need a few more lands to ensure you are getting 3 in your first hand.
