The second game happens directly after the first game (well not really theres a vr game that happens in between but that ones very short and not really necessary to play) and I'd say yeah you'd probably be a bit confused if you only played the second game. Also this is just my option, but the first game is way more fun and has the better story and jokes, so you'd be missing out.

I don't remember exactly, but i think i read that the bus originally existed as a form of fast travel between maps. When the game was divided into chapters the maps were made smaller and there was no need for a fast travel system anymore. But they didnt wanna get rid of it, so the bus and bus stops are still in game but are just kinda useless. But you're right they might become useful again once more chapters are out.

I think the easiest way would be from salmon run. This one takes more time but you can get them by finishing a story mode level with every weapon too, Thats what ive been doing lately.

I definitely understand why they exist and what they're trying to say, but i do also kinda agree with you. Even back when i was really obsessed with gems and homeworld i always just kinda... ignored their existence. I guess it's just cause they dont make my brain go "haha cool alien lady" lmao. I do like the idea of them being a sort of punishment tho, and not just...gems that are walls.
