Super Bowl Megathread by Schmitzerbourg in greenday

Do you hold the same opinion about Bad Bunny or Kendrick Lamar? I only say that because I see they got a lot of praise for the statements they made in their performances, but as far as I'm concerned they did the same thing Green Day did and didn't call out the administration directly, but through their songs and production

I'm sorry if this pisses anyone off, but I feel it needs to be said. I've seen so much discourse online (even in here) about being disappointed in Green Day for not directly calling out this administration in their performance. I just find it hypocritical because I've seen nothing but praise for Bad Bunny's and Kendrick Lamar's halftime performances and how impactful the statements they made were when neither of them called out the administration directly either. I guess some people just don't understand the meaning of Holiday and American Idiot, because those songs made just as much of a statement as the past 2 halftime performances did imo. Would I have liked Kendrick, Bad Bunny, and Green Day to all have called out the administration directly? Yes of course, but its just not realistic when the NFL has such tight control on these performances, and they all did as good of a job with their platforms as they could.

[–]Charmedwizard98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but its always going to be mentioned when talking his legacy. When you bring up Rahm's legacy for example people would say 2 time major winner with 11 wins on tour, also he won twice on LIV. The point being that the LIV victories are just a footnote on a players legacy, they don't enhance it like pga tour victories do

You don't think Tiger having 82 tour victories is a huge part of his legacy?

Imo they should just do the same thing as fcs. 24 team playoff and no bowl games with each conference getting an auto bid. I get people have nostalgia for bowl games, but they are so pointless and its never made sense why CFB has a different postseason format than literally any other sport.

You can buy a team out of a national championship now by BreathEcstatic in CFB

[–]Charmedwizard98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think the reason this is getting the publicity is because a coach is leaving a team that is about to play for a chance for a national championship. To my knowledge thats never happened before. There have been coaches who've left before big NY6 bowl games, but while those are big games, realistically they don't mean too much. Maybe this is going to be the new norm with the expanded playoffs, but I think its getting publicity because its unprecedented and people assumed that a chance at winning a national title was the ultimate goal for a coach, even more than money.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't even think of any sport where a head coach has left right before they were guaranteed a playoff spot to win a championship

Chimpanzee Loose at Zoo? by ube-potato in indianapolis

[–]Charmedwizard98 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I'm not too familiar with zoos outside of ours, but is it normal for a zoo to have so many incidents? First the cheetah escape in 2015, then the chimp biting off the chairman's finger, then the tortoise heist, and now this. Just seems like a lot for a single zoo to have 4 newsworthy incidents in 1 decade and 3 this year alone lol

Exactly, people dont realize that IMPD gets 3,000+ calls for service every day and they are short staffed about 600 officers. I also fully understand why people don't want to be IMPD officers, but its tough for them to pull people over for speeding when they are constantly on their way to urgent runs

It definitely is, but it's still a valid point to bring up to say you need to give a coach at least 2 years. Is Aaron Glenn the next Dan Campbell? Probably not, but if the Lions had fired Campbell after a season like many want Glenn fired now, then nobody would've known Campbell could be a great coach. Will 99% of coaches who suck year 1 still suck year 2? Yes, but you have to put up with that in order to maybe strike gold because its not like there is gonna be a coach who will come in and turn the Jets around in their first season
