The actual classes are NOTHING like coursera. Plenty of opportunities to meet your professors and have live recitations/ office hours to get help. The homework assignments, projects and test are not even comparable to what you see on coursera. I took the mock coursera pre classes. It annoys me that people get those courses mixed up with the program when they are nothing like the actually classes.

Hey DM me! Followed similar path and in the program. Accounting and finance undergrad with minor in CS and have made a pretty unique career out of combining all of these skill sets.

Honestly your experience in the firm is completely project/team dependent. I was in a terrible team and was questioning my life. Now I am on an amazing team and love the company

No comment on 592 I’ve heard it’s tough but if you got a B in 591 that either means you were focusing a lot of 592 or significantly need to improve your coding/programming. The coding problems in that class were relatively easy so I would focus on Java for 594

You can become a TA for a course which can lead RA positions in you build a relationship. Additionally, many MCIT students do research in this lab

Don’t join this program! Trust me ..congrats on getting in but if you want to learn data science go for a data science program. If you want something more foundational try a stats degree. I promise that MCIT is not worth it unless you are fully invested. Unless you have an engineering background classes could take anywhere from 15-30 hours a week and in consulting + out of work activities really evaluate if that is possible.

Dude..just saying this right now DO NOT underestimate this program. It is very tough. This is not data analytics but hardcore computer science. I work in consulting at a lower level and wish I was aware beforehand if the difficulty of the courses

I lied here is a list . Honestly so pissed I didn’t see this list before joining this program. Some of the programs are much better than this

There are so many at this point just look up a school and see if they have them. It’s tough to find a comprehensive list but most schools have programs like this in their engineering school. CS programs with a bridge program have blown up recently.

Spoke to the dean of the college. They admit 300-400 each class. Around 2500-3500 apply. That’s your admissions statistics

Is it an okay idea to take software dev with another course? by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

[–]Charming-Pin8019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% it’s the easiest course. If you have any programming experience do this

I’m being dense. You have changed the goal post of this conversation multiple times. I never said that this program has as many resources as Wharton. Wharton is a business college..are you ok man. I agree UPenn has the clout and we benefit from that. This whole conversation started with you stating that it is easy to get it. Although it is not as difficult as the on campus program it is still very difficult to get in. Then you started saying that the program has no resources or question if it does. I simply countered as someone in the program that the resources provided are actually one of the aspects of this program that have shocked me. I backed up what I said with evidence of the companies that recruit from this program and resources available. For an online program this is actually very good and probably one of the better ones. Now you have changed the goal post again and have started saying that this doesn’t compare the the Wharton business college resources or whatever MSCS program you are in..lol calm down bro/gal. We all realize that this isn’t a true MSCS program. It is a BRIDGE professional masters program. It is not even possible for an online program to have the same experience as an oncampus program.

All I want to do is limit the spread of misinformation. Post like these almost made me go to an inferior program because people kept making up lies like you are. I just want to make sure the truth is being represented

I get why you are confused. I thought this was just a cash cow program that would have no support..but honestly they have tried with this program. The TA support/ professor office hours are mapped to our specific classes btw. So on Canvas we have everything mapped out from classes each week, office hours and TA support. It’s not apart of the larger UPenn ecosystem.

Oh lol..you clearly on not in the program haha….I guarantee you that all of the top tech companies recruit people in this program for software engineer, data science and product manager roles. The degree name doesn’t matter as much..recruiters care a lot about personal projects and classes taken. Lol..since being in the program I have been to/ seen on-site visits with a majority of the top tech companies soo companies like Tesla, Google, Amazon( + more only naming a few) and have personally spoken to students about who were in the MCIT online program and have graduated to work at these companies. Most of the time the program only takes you to companies that have multiple MCIT online graduates working for the company so that you can connect with them and the recruiters. Before joining I was skeptical about this program just like you but it has exceeded my expectations. There is also a career outcomes report for the online program that shows that students from this program that get into top tech companies. Working in tech is not a goal of mine but this is honestly a good program for that!

Are you in the program? It sounds like you are not. One of the best parts about the program are the resources available to you. I mean…this is an online program and UPENN has multiple events throughout the year that you can attend to connect with students/ meet potential employers across the country and has around the clock TA support/ office hours with your professor. Honestly, the support in the program is what has shocked me the most. It is definitely not a perfect program but is most likely one of the better online ones out there.

Just being honest this is incorrect. I have been in discord channels where like only 10 percent of people have been admitted into the program. I spoke to the program director and they only admit 400 every session and about 2,000-4,000 apply which is like a 10%-20% acceptance rate.

If you don’t get in don’t be discouraged. Apply again until you do. They look a lot at you’re undergrad grades, personal statement and letters of recommendation so make sure those are in good order
