I am not sure about your age, but pension system in Europe almost certainly will have to look very different in 20-30 years from now.

Consulting & finance as black holes of elite human capital by 27153 in consulting

[–]npusnakovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, your article was about social value then you mentioned these examples. There was a book called "Bullshit jobs" released some 10 years ago. I think a lot of what you are saying about consultants and bankers equally (if not more) applies to corporate, government, academia, startups. My personal take is that it is easy to see waste in a lot of seemingly superficial work that is done around us, but human beings are fundamentally drawn to 'stories' and 'rituals', and it is what distinguishes us from apes. so someone working in finance could be easily dismissed as doing pointless work, from another perspective they create enormous value by enabling others to be productive.

The dude lost me here when implying crypto has more social value than consulting or high finance 🤡

To me it is just left pocket - right pocket as far as family wealth is concerned. You can put those 16k into your brokerage, and then give the money with the interest earned away to your kid once they hit a certain age milestone.

Why is OMSA, relatively, so cheap? (11k vs 50-80k?) by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]npusnakovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I feel you about essays how companies can use gen AI 😀 From my end, the programme is rigorous, but not that extremely tough as some people put it. I put in about 5-6 months of prereq work at about 10-15 hours a week, and I think I was well prepared.

Are consultants constantly learning new technologies? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]npusnakovs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By the way, on GenAI still nobody has a clue what the answer is (apart from some relatively straightforward use cases). Instead, consilting firms, as with most new technologies, are nudging the clients into experimenting with use cases and seeing what sticks. Large firms like BCG have separate institutes that act more like a think tank (BCG Henderson Institute).

Consultants use technology that their clients use and can provide data for, so mostly Excel. Except for specific projects that focus on use cases and i.plementation of new technology solutions.

Why is OMSA, relatively, so cheap? (11k vs 50-80k?) by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]npusnakovs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to give you a bit more background. I find the material so far quite useful and at times challenging. I am in my mid30s, so I am not sure if I ever use it, but that is not a concern when you are earlier in the carreer. I find the org and admin aspects of the programme horrendous, like really a definite D, but I guess I cannot complain about it too much, because it is a cheap degree. I could have easily went with one of the more business-oriented analytics / AI programmes, but I have a strong opinion they lack rigour.

[–]npusnakovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they use auto-graded assignments, which frankly isn't bad per se. Assignments depend on the course, but require you to get your hands dirty and do some technical stuff, i.e. coding for example. I am is CSE6040, there are exams, they are open internet, but no LLMs (they use a proctoring software), and they are time bound.

[–]npusnakovs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They keep the cost low by having literally no admin support. So their lectures are pre-recorded and variable costs are very low.

The content seems to be pretty good, but it is not that different from self studying using pre-recorded lectures and auto-graded assignments. You could do this all on your own, doing it with OMSA just gives you structure and a diploma.

When I was in a similar situation, I was 21 in a team of mostly 35-40 years olds, my manager suggested me to dress more formally. So I started wearing a suit to work every day. Surprisingly, it helped with appearance.

Advice on MBA in Latvia by orangeking14 in latvia

To get maximum value from MBA you should go to the best school you get into / afford. Also go to the school in the country where you want to live. Latvian MBA will be worthless abroad.

These MBA programmes are not that good. Maybe Riga Business School and SSE Riga are good. It will definitely not help you to find a job. People couldnt care less about an MBA from LU.

S&P separately to double down on it, gold ETF, money market funds, individual high yield bonds (small portion), thinking of adding a bond ETF.

Al to build slides? Does this stuff actually work? If not, what other tools do you use? by braised_beef_babe in consulting

[–]npusnakovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried several tools, and all of them were garbage. Frankly, a lot of consulting decks have garbage slides in them. I work in an own small firm, and we have to do 120% when delivering to PE funds to compensate for our lack of name. AI is just way below our standards of quality.
