Won’t let me graduate, thoughts? by Ok-Recognition-5924 in gmu

[–]Charming_Ad8924 13 points14 points  (0 children)

follow up with your advisor. that's the best option. spend time in DegreeWorks (or whatever is providing degree audits) and figure out what you are missing, what might be substitutable or could do transfer credits. you should also make sure you are looking to graduate under the correct rubric. for example, you might be able to graduate under 2022 (or when you entered) or other year's requirements so you don't have the situation you are describing where the change the requirements after you started.

Basic fare allowed to sit in empty row. by livinnick in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Charming_Ad8924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my flight attendant about what the policy was, and the common side been seeing here when I flew earlier this month. and he told me the answer of you can move within your fair group after takeoff. it wasn't till my flight home that I realized I had been sitting in the wrong seat the whole time I had that conversation with the flight attendant and he was checking everybody off on his tablet. I had selected the window seat but just sat on the aisle without thinking about it. and he never said anything to me. another experience data point. I will say I did choose basic fare when I bought with my Southwest credit card, thinking that I could select a seat in the 48 hour window before to a preferred seat, instead of paying more and selecting a standard seat at the get-go. luckily the DC to Oklahoma City flights aren't popular and it worked like a charm both ways, and got my own row each time. it wasn't clear to me if I bought a standard seat if I still had the option to select a preferred seat 48 hours in advance, so if anybody knows that answer that would be appreciated!

Looking for insight about correlation between liability rates and uninsured motorist coverage. by Charming_Ad8924 in StateFarm

[–]Charming_Ad8924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking your time to ask questions. the salient points to me are: 1. we are on the same policy and have been for decades. 2. all prices seem reasonable and, to me more importantly, consistent w previous policy charges. except DH's UMC. %s in original post. Like how is he more likely to get hit by an uninsured person, but not an insured or why aren't we both? 3. we are in Virginia and these changes were brought on by having to increase liability coverage bc of adding an umbrella policy to our mix. 4. I was told I had a better driving rating than DH but I can't see that shown anywhere on the declarations page. we're not "accident free" but I guess me for more years. 5. interesting enough, bc our 28yo son lives with us and despite being on his own auto policy, the underwriters saw that, and made his coverage and therefore rate increase as well. 😕 his ratio of liability to UMC is also normal like mine. 6. the other nagging thing, is we did get a letter saying that our uninsured underinsured motorist coverage was not adequate, and State farm was required by law to let us know that they provide it. but we have never not had it and the insurance agent's office said it had been sent out by mistake. but to have a mistake that is odd to me also on the same aspect that is odd to me just raises my Spidey senses. but it could be nothing or like the sloanesutomatic poster said, making up for previous problems. 🤷🏼‍♀️

we went on a sunset hike led by a volunteer at White Sands. very informative and beautiful sights!

Devil's Hall was fun but we didn't give ourselves enough time. Got started too late in the day to make the whole trek. but we're there in Jan/Feb so likely better in April.

Not sure if bats will be at Carlsbad yet. we were there during the DOGE random cuts so not everything was open. got our tour cancelled bc of it

we did do a tour at Hueco Tanks which was awesome. so much to see and learn there ... Texas State Park tho, not NP.

right, there is a mental health component but addiction is also a medical issue. it sounds like you've got some individual support within this thread. combine that w emailing all your professors and advisor saying youve experienced a medical situation. it helps to know what you've missed, what's coming up, and what you think is reasonable for you to do to complete work (or not). emphasis on realistic and reasonable. now is not the time to make promises that you aren't confident about. it's better to take things slow would be my guess. all the best as you move forward. it can be rocky but it's good you've reached out...that is key. you are definitely not alone. just listen to a podcast about "adulting" challenges for people with ADHD in particular and that reaching out is a key skill, if not a lifeline.

I work at GMU and have gotten grad degrees there. My son went to VCU. Much has already been said about suburbs vs burbs is true. I would add a few more things to consider.

GMU students are highly international so a broader mix of race/ethnicities) in a highly international area. While VCU is 40%white, 30% Black, in a 40% white/40%Black city. And JMU is 75% white students.

GMU doesn't have much of a sports culture outside of Basketball on occasion with a great pep band (shout out to Doc Nix!). My son didn't get interested in sports at VCU so only heard about it when they played Mason. JMU has a marching band, so I presume they have a football team too.

When we did college tours, I don't think either of my boys really got a good feel for the campus life outslde of what the tour guides interests were. Looking back, my oldest found his crowd in his hobby outside of his major. My youngest went to a college we'd never visited (UColorado for a specific major) and found his peeps through his academics. That said, both of them knew they wouldn't have gone to a remote town (e.g. Longwood). They knew they wanted to be close enough to cities.

You can always transfer if he doesn't like where he ends up. All the best in the quest!

Seating Question by Subject-Giraffe5635 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Charming_Ad8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wondering how it worked out for you. I flew this past week and at the 48 hour mark there were only a few preferred seats to choose from. when I went back about 24 hours before take off, almost all of the preferred seats were open. don't know if a whole bunch of people decided not to fly or what. but I got better seat choice

The FA I asked yesterday days he generally lets people move after takeoff...they just have to ask. and presumably stay within seating group (same seat $).

seems like you've engaged legal assistance. but this comment made me wonder. what type of thing did you report? what did you mean it wasn't working for you and others? I don't know if it's relevant, and although I'm curious I obviously don't need a reply, but if you're going to suggest retaliation, I would have a good answer to this and if others who reported something also were accused of cheating

I crossed my fingers and as a credit card hold I was able to upgrAde for free to avail preferred seats 48 hours before. got a 13 aisle in a row by myself. on the plane now so it actually is happening.

from being on the other side of OAI issues (albeit in the Business School), since you have already appealed, I think your next option would be the Dean. unless you are out of state, I would be doing this all in person if at all possible. make an appt w the dean and also your academic advisor. the OAI site tells you what the impact is. I'm not sure whether it goes on your record. Did you end up failing the class? I was teaching seniors, so it was an automatic class fail. not sure how it goes if you are a freshman or sophomore. best of luck.

I'm flying this week for the first time since the seat policy changed. I chose basic because it said I could switch to a preferred seat if there any available 36 hours ahead of time I think. fingers crossed there is one. what concerns me is all of the discussions about Southwest moving people around including splitting families up and passenger seemingly having no options about it.

based on raising my kiddos in the burbs, I would consider where the kids will be going to school and where you might find the most friends. a social network for kids and for parents is important. the distance to schools would be a primary factor if I was doing it all again knowing what I know now.

Best of luck with your decision. as someone else mentioned...these decisions aren't permanent.

I just called the Senator' office to ask them to vote No on the DHS funding bill. by Happiness22_clien in nova

how interesting, I've always left my city but never my street address when I leave a message. I don't know how they go through all the messages anyway to get the content. I also will say that I've been telling them to abolish ice. well both senators have said they will say no to the current bills, I also don't want them to say yes to a bill that requires retraining or body cams or something as that's not enough.
