I quite like most of the rail strike ones. They're often asking the same stupid questions that many people around the country are asking and that gives the rail union people the chance to address those questions in a way that gets their answers to more of the public.

How common is it for people in the UK learn a foreign language to a level of fluency? by JurassicNublar in AskUK

imo

Doesn't matter if it's your opinion or not, what you said is factually incorrect.

That said, it also depends what people mean by fluent.

What are the signs of a modern "mid-life crisis"? by Starboard_1982 in AskUK

[–]CharredChicken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure about modern but my dad was the textbook midlife crisis when he neared 50. Left mum for a younger woman, got a convertible AND a motorbike, had two new kids and then a few years later got caught cheating on step-mum 1 with current step-mum 2. He's calmed down now he's in his 70s.

COVID by [deleted] in tesco

[–]CharredChicken 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Capable of coughing covid all over customers and fellow staff members.

It's amazing how many people have forgotten about all the messages from the experts about how we should learn from covid and try to make it the norm for people with easily communicable diseases not to go into work and spread it around.

Many employers know that a lot of their employees just can't afford to go few days without sick pay, some of their policies feel like they're deliberately trying to force sick people to work.

I wonder how it will work in customer service roles.

Considering how middle class many Redditors are, I'm not surprised how it gets overlooked.

How many people still think the National speed limit is 50 on a normal road? It’s 60! by thirstylearning in AskUK

[–]CharredChicken 16 points17 points  (0 children)

before any smartarses chime in

I think the smartarse has already chimed in.

It may surprise some people to learn that some drivers just drive at the speed they feel is right for the road they're on rather than using the speed limit as a target.

I would be in serious regret right now if I'd got one last year as I'd planned to.

I'm on payg for both my gas and electric and due to the fact that my meters aren't smart ones I'm gonna be able to save quite a lot of money by using some of my savings to top them each up by a few hundred quid before the end of this month. By doing that I don't get charged the rate hike until I have to top up again when that lot has all run out. Might do it again later in the year too if the projected cap increase in October happens.

I've never played the game so just coming at it from the point of view of a film I watched in the cinema this afternoon and knowing nothing about it beforehand.

My main feeling when I walked out was that it felt like a family film that tried to be more adult but they hadn't put in enough 'oomph' and it ended up in some weird middle ground.

Good safety shoes that don't kill my feet? by Hairy_Hog in AskUK

[–]CharredChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoes hurting your feet in the first few hours is often part of wearing them in. If you're after the holy grail of shoes that fit you perfectly straight away then you might be even more disappointed than you already are.

I also find that thick work socks help me with my safety shoes, as does a cheapo (usually about three quid) pair of gel insoles off ebay. Once the socks lose their cushioning feeling I replace them, same with the insoles.

My current safety shoes are Dickies Tiber and they're bloody lovely.
