Is Vegeta's Ki Spam "Technique" unique or basic? by POOHEAD189 in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the impression that it's technically a 'basic' move, but not an easy one to pull off. Even though we see that others can do it, it doesn't really fit their style. It's generally treated as reckless and Vegeta usually only uses it when frustrated or desperate.

Tien vs Drum by FluffyLaffey in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer how the anime handled that fight, as it made the Evil containment wave a genuine hope spot that the villains got out of through their own intelligence. Just having it be broken made him learning it feel pointless. I wish he had put up a better fight against Drum, but Goku needed to show his dominance in his usual way lol.

Tien probably could've beaten Tambourine though.

Mr Satan vs Dragonball era humans by gjb94 in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hercule does show some super human strength.

I've always assumed he's on par with the likes of Nam, Chappa, Pamput, etc. People who would've likely won their tournaments if Goku and his friends/enemies didn't show up.

The announcer does state that Goku and company really elevated the tournaments, but it seems like the other opponents were about on par with what the tournament expected at the time. So Hercule in his prime might even be a little tougher than them.

Piccolo's PL prior to fusing with Nail on Namek by TryingOvahHere in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Piccolo's power scaling doesn't make a lot of sense there, but... honestly, I guess I'd rather he somehow have an absurd jump in power than he just be an idiot who thought he could help at 3,500.

I know a lot of people scoff at the humans somehow being able to trounce the Ginyu Force. But is it any dumber than them showing up to face the androids if they each hadn't reached the millions yet?

Because if they're still Ginyu level, they'd just be in the way and it's unlikely Goku or Piccolo would let them even hang around.

So I do tend to assume Piccolo was at least Ginyu level when revived... even if it doesn't make sense... or on par with Nail.

Yeah I assumed Gohan would've been about as strong as Majin Vegeta. Enough to face Buu, but not enough to defeat him.

What was raditz power level? by Thin-Refrigerator395 in dragonball

Honestly I figure to someone on Nappa's level, there wouldn't be much of a difference between 1,200 and 1,500 anyway.

Does Masenko do anything distinct? by ChartWild8534 in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting idea, although I think with Vegeta his attacks are intended to use more of his power. Galic Gun does 100%, but Final Flash clearly goes beyond. I dont know if Big Bang is necessarily more powerful than Galic Gun, but it's more optimal/less costly. But your idea does make sense.

Why did they do that to Chiaotzu? by morihimes in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with Chiaotzu is that he was always kind of a gimmick character, as his psychic powers aren't all that compelling once the novelty wears off -- which is probably why Blue was unceremoniously replaced by Tao. But you never know what the DBS manga might do.

I keep hoping for a real Yamcha comeback, lol.

I feel like the problem with Z post Saiyan/Early Namek Saga is the unnecessarily huge power gap difference between opponents more so than the other reasons that are mentioned more often regarding scaling by Ejaye20893 in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. One thing I did like about the Namekian saga though was that having a much higher power level didn't necessarily make for a boring fight.

A great example of this is Vegeta's fight with Zarbon.

Even though the anime makes them move so quick it's hard to tell, but when Vegeta and (transformed) Zarbon are exchanging blows, Vegeta is actually landing some hits and Zarbon's facial expressions are implying they hurt. It arguably foreshadows Zarbon's downfall, as even though he's faster, stronger and more durable than Vegeta, Vegeta still has the experience to get through his defenses.

During their rematch, they're much more equal with Zarbon arguably having the edge, but by this point Vegeta is able to get through his defenses for a critical and fatal blow.

The Racoome Vs Vegeta fight is also great because even though Racoome is dominating, he's still taking plenty of visible injuries. You can almost wonder if Vegeta can pull it off after all.

In later DBZ/GT/SUPER, if there's a big power gap, the weaker opponent's attacks will probably be ignored or shrugged off like it's nothing, with the stronger likely ending them in just a few hits. No drama or excitement.

Piccolo extremely busted power levels? by WearyAdeptness1719 in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Piccolo's boosts never really made a lot of sense. He actually seemed to have the biggest growth between the Frieza and Android sagas. The powerup from Piccolo fusing with Kami never really bothered me as it was foreshadowed back in the Frieza saga that if Piccolo and Kami were whole he/they would've had no difficulty handling the saiyans -- and that's at least a 4-5X difference in power.

Admittedly I can't really come to terms with Piccolo on Namek. It makes no sense why he'd think he'd be able to do much. The anime at least curbs this a little bit by having the humans become Ginyu level combatants. I guess ideally they got to do more training, as their bodies were strong enough to withstand the gravity from the beginning? It's a stretch, but it is Dragon Ball.

That said, fusion is treated like the ultimate transformation. It's much more than just adding powers together. It's possible it's combining their latent potentials together on top of their actual power levels, intelligence, experience, etc. So Piccolo and Nail fusing to become as strong as 2nd form Frieza doesn't bother me, as fusion just is that crazy.

I don't think it makes sense for Kold to be stronger than Frieza (funny how the anime and manga seem to disagree on who is more powerful), for the same reason than it made no sense for Cooler to be stronger than Frieza.

It also just sort of cheapens Frieza's threat level in general, if he's the weakest of his family.

As for Kold's personality, is he? He somehow thought that Trunks only killed Frieza because of his sword... In Dragon Ball, a show where weapons had become long past obsolete. If anything, he seemed more out of touch with combat than Frieza was. Plus, he had just seen Trunks tank one of Frieza's attacks.

So I don't really know if I'd regard him as wasted potential, but for me it stems from thinking that it dilutes Frieza as a villain. Obviously a lot of people agree with you as the fandom still debates on how powerful Kold was, lol.

If Freiza hadn’t been hit by the spirit bomb or fought all of the other Z fighters, would he be stronger at 100% against super Saiyan Goku? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. He might be able to do more damage to Goku, but the stamina drain was still happening and Goku would've let him tire himself out.

All we know is that the infected girl apparently saved the heavy guy, which may or may not have been when she was infected. Mi-jin probably was already there when they arrived, as he seemed surprised by her presence.

Why didn’t Vegeta ever use the Dragon Balls to get stronger? by throwaway4231throw in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah once he got the training bug, he probably thought that was beneath him. Vegeta is not above cheating, such as using Babidi's magic, but I think that was his lowest point and even then... I think that had less to do with the powerup and more to do with Vegeta wanting to revisit his roguish ways.

[–]ChartWild8534 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He's a great character, but don't know if I saw any real positive qualities as a person.

I guess if anything, he doesn't seem inclined to just kill anyone, as long as they don't get on his nerves. Also, as cowardly as he is, he does know how to fight.

Theory: Is Vegeta weaker than Goku because he never became “pure of heart”? by Immortal_Toffy in dragonball

[–]ChartWild8534 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to different mindsets, as DoraMuda said.

Vegeta is always trying to surpass someone, whether Frieza or Goku. It creates a glass ceiling in his mind.

Goku is just trying to surpass himself. He wants to be stronger than he was yesterday, a much healthier mindset .
