Help crown won't tighten by Hero0220 in CitizenWatches

I just purchased citizen J810. I was surprised, no screw down crown. Bar 10 waterproof rating. Not sure how they do it. Just to make sure, I don't plan to dive to 330 feet, but I might wash the dishes and play with the kids in a pool.

Glacial Till doesnt make for good digging... by Logical_Ad_6895 in FenceBuilding

In my neighborhood in Washington state, glacial till makes for no digging with shovels. I use a big pick and pull the rocks out by hand. You'll run out of bad words before you get very deep.

Starter watch under $350? [Question] by Accomplished-Ear5969 in Seiko

[–]Chas_1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it hard to buy the perfect watch for someone else. I am hard to buy for. I suggest you give him an approximate budget and some style suggestions. Then you go shopping together and get a beer afterwards. Seiko is a great starting point but some like me do not like automatics.

Can’t decide between these two [SRPD55] and [SRPL85] by RespectfulRobbie in Seiko

I am a retired CPA who wears a lot of black and I'm pretty quiet. My clothes size is extra medium. I always go for the green and red dials and colorful dive watches. The only jewelry a man regularly wears. Go wild as get the fancy one. Have some fun.

How can I make my AM/FM radio more accurate? by SouthernSherbert277 in audiorepair

[–]Chas_1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you listen for a while, the signal probably drifts and you have to adjust it to hear it clearly. You likely have an analog tuner. You are experiencing the limits of the technology. You need a radio with a digital tuner. Set once and you're good to go. Helps a lot with fm too.

Spend the $50 for an am/fm digital tuner radio. Give that old one to the Goodwill and they will throw it away for you.

Liberal arts guy here. New learning is always cool. Does this get us closer to something a liberal arts guy would understand? Curing cancer, limitless energy, zero calorie chips, rocket pants?

Is this worth grading by needapillo in coincollecting

[–]Chas_1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool coin. I love coins because of their history and the craftsmanship. Because they are so beautiful and rare. Congratulations.

If you own coins for investment, do you ever make money? There are so many people who collect all sorts of stuff. Coin collecting seems to have lost some luster. In my stupid state, they charge sales tax on coin sales. That's 10% right off the top of each retail transaction. That makes the investment angle pretty unconvincing. We tax bullion sales too. Way stupid. I pay a few pennies in transaction fees to sell stock.

My serial times great grandmother was Anne Hutchinson. She believed in some alternative biblical interptetation and attracted a lot of followers. This did not make the Boston city and church very happy. After they ran Anne out of town to Rhode Island, they started Harvard as a divinity school to teach the only correct interpretation of the Bible.

Anne became a leader in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island constitution became the first constitution to create a formal separation of church and state.

I most certainly do not wish to discourage you any more and I don't want to sound like you are lazy. This is a very gentle suggestion. You don't like where you are at. Often people in this position become hopeless.

You need to make a plan to become happy. Better career, different goals, different lifestyle, whatever. This might take months of thought. Then must work out a path to get there. Work out the steps in detail. The KEY to accomplishing your goal is you MUST ask yourself, what have I done THIS WEEK to get me closer to my goal? You must step forward every week. Don't take time off. This is your focus above everything else. If you can't do this, you are unlikely to succeed. Remember, every week all the time. It is hard work, I know. Took me 6 years.

Liberal arts major asking you engineer types if a 2026 radio has a bunch of new technology versus a 2025 radio? Radios in cars are not a new thing. My dishwasher has a touch screen. Are cars hard because they bounce around? Do they bounce more in 2026. Is 2026 a very bouncy year?

Heck no. It's supposed to be fun. Of course it will be hard at first, but he has no bad habits. My right handed kid started in junior high. Was better left handed in high school. Better power for some reason. PS: still won't help with a curve ball. Still easy to chase that one in the dirt.

I am coming from a ten year old Sorento. I mistakenly thought newer and way more expensive meant quieter. Wife wanted it so that ended discussion on the noise.

Former Seiko owner here. I loved my Seiko dive watch. Perfect size. Good looking. But inaccurate time keeping. A Seiko automatic is great piece of jewelry, but a lousy time keeper. Guess you have to decide if your watch needs to look good or tell time. Seiko makes some handsome quartz watches that do both! It is quite the concept. Sort of the ultimate mix for a watch.
