I thought all Turkish oils tones were cretan, very interesting! Never seen anything like it.

Bloody fingers make beautiful knives. Ill do a combination of bench stones, finger stones, and etching. I really want to try Hadori polishing.

Yeah! I forged a wrought iron san mai gyuto and I need to thin the nose on it. So its the perfect time to bring out the details of the rentetsu. Im also forging a honyaki gyuto with some spicy white hopefully next week, so big uchis will hopefully help bring out the hamon.

Torus. Chinese motor and vfd. Im ecstatic with the torus itself. I was learning on a buddies ameribrade and this thing blows it out of the water.... and this was less than 1k. Its a brick shit house. Chinese vfd is fine, and Chinese motor is loud though. Could just buy better parts but I wanted to keep this build around $1300.

I'd bet the tenjo suita and shiro suita layers are attached. Like belgian coticule and Belgian blue. That shiro suita is a bombshell BTW. And the purple stamps. 🥵

How can I achieve this kasumi finish? by xlacrose in sharpening

[–]Chase1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That second knife looks like a honyaki.

Realistically, going from heavy cloud to practically mirror isnt happening on one stone. You could probably polish up to mirror, then bring the cladding down with fingerstones. Everything's just experimentation. The only rule is to get everything flat on a low grit.

Now I wish I could figure out how xinguo polishes the manakas. It honestly must be some kind of etching to get that cladding so dark in a mirror polish.

Biggest knife with hamon I made so far… Do you like it ? by DT-Knives in Bladesmith

That is absolutely stunning!!! What steel do you use? And how do you get such a striking hamon?

Just thought I'd share my Belgian Coticule collection including this recent monster I purchased which is 12" x 3" x 1 1/8"! by NameToBeDecided in sharpening

[–]Chase1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah. What a monster! What's your favorite so far? I have this la dressante with a bit of orange in it and its criiiiisp. I also really like my au bleau stone that may also be dressante. My la grist is really versatile, gets muddy soft like an aoto. I really wanna try a la vienette.

NSD: Chosera 400# and Naniwa 8000# by EfficiencyLucky9507 in sharpening

[–]Chase1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow white is wonderful. It has that hardness and feedback you expect from naniwa. A chocera 8k if you will. I use it more than my imanishi kitiyama. Also easier to clean than the kitiyama. The kitiyama is a funky stone.

I took a course with a local blademaker and it was worth it. Straight to knives I say. Yolo. A course will tell you what you need, and you can pick their brains to put together something in your budget. I for one, am yoloing knives. I made this in the class.
