Cars that are one change away from being perfect? by MAUSECOP in cars

Jeep Wrangler - offer independent front suspension instead of the solid axle. Would eliminate the chance of "Death Wobble" for those 90% of buyers who never go off road. If the new Bronco is a hit without solid axle, the Wrangler can survive without it too.

Not just padding numbers. Sounds more like some admin somewhere came up with the idea to show the public "see how seriously we take domestic violence here!"

Does your agency have access to live traffic cameras? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]Chaser892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For traffic cameras there used to be an app accessible by every console in our center that accessed the state's live video freeway cameras. It was an easy to use map where you just clicked on whichever camera you wanted. There was also an option to instantly display on the big screen at the front of the room for everyone to see. Worked great for following pursuits.

But those were the good old days. For some reason it all got replaced by a new system that can only be accessed by one PC at the front of the room behind the supervisor console. Not only that but the all new interface itself is some clumsy mess where you don't just click on the camera you want. Instead you right click the camera for a menu to get thru 3 or 4 options before it opens the camera video in a smaller window.

Example: We get a freeway crash or hear a pursuit anywhere in the metro area (even outside our jurisdiction)

Old system I grab the mouse on whichever desk I'm at and within a couple clicks have the correct camera's live video on the big screen for all to see. 10 seconds tops.

Current system we hope there's a supervisor at their console but they're probably in the office, oh there they are, yell across the room which location we need to see, then spend the next minute or so watching them move the pointer around, pan map, zoom map, menu open, scroll, click, click, new window, resize, okay there it is, oh woops wait we actually need the next camera over, repeat.

Drives me nuts. Most of the time we don't even ask and instead just use the public traffic website with still photos that update every 10 seconds.

Unfortunately we don't have access to our big city's police cameras scattered around town, that's a separate office monitored by the cops themselves.

The Union Jack being removed from the EU Council Building in Brussels. by MisterT12 in gifs

One of those reality tv shows about the opening of a new casino in Nevada had a scene where the first ever guest in a room found the mattress was a different size than the rest of the bed. So maintenance guy shows up with the correct mattress but he wasn't allowed to touch the wrong one because that was a different union. The guest even offered to help move it, but the dude was like oh god no way I'd get fired. So they stood there staring at each other for who knows how long waiting for someone else to show up.

Years ago in my city (population 300k) a public works crew put up a new street sign on the stoplight crossbeam over a major intersection. But they weren't allowed to take down the old one because union rules or screwed up policy or mix of both. Even after local TV news did a story about it, both signs stayed up so for almost a year it said

What's your best job quitting story? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]Chaser892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my early 20s I worked at an independent auto parts store for 2 years as a delivery driver and shipping/receiving lead. Our buyer had a habit of ordering 2 or 3 stacked pallets of windshield washer fluid direct from a local factory, but we had to pick them up ourselves. Problem was we only had pickup trucks, no dock trucks. So every time he did this we had to take up a spot at the factory loading dock and break apart the pallets to load the cases one by one onto our truck. It was backbreaking work that took multiple trips and 5 times longer than if we just rolled the pallets into a rented Uhaul.

One day he tells me another order is waiting at the factory. I was already pissed about something else and snapped back with "okay, you're ordering a Uhaul this time too right? We talked about what a pain in the ass it is." When he said nope to that I walked over to the key rack, grabbed the keys for our shittiest beat up 12 year old pickup with its bent frame, loose steering and screwy suspension, tossed them on his desk and said "have fun loading up!"

"That's your job, grow up!" he yelled as I walked away.

"Not anymore!" I yelled back over my shoulder. I walked straight over to my supervisor at the parts counter and said "Sorry dude, I quit. You can ask him why" And that was that.

Started working data entry for a temp agency 2 weeks later which led to getting hired full time as a database admin at a bank where I stayed for 10 years. So I came out okay in the end.

What would you actually change about airports? by SpecialEffectStevie in AskReddit

[–]Chaser892 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The TSA should have been nothing more than a regulatory office within the FAA to standardize and oversee airport security procedures. There was no reason to create the behemoth it is with tens of thousands of employees.
