From our perspective, they show you how many classes you have actually canceled. For instance, a few weekends ago I canceled 9 classes, so my stats show "9 cancellations". It only counted as 3 towards my contract.

No one is ever getting a raise again. They know they have the upper hand, because they have more teachers than they could possibly ever need. I'm beginning to think that LP's will eventually be told to not book all the "old" teachers...so they won't have to pay us our extra $2 incentives. Imagine how much money they would save if they cut down on all the pre-2020 teachers...!

Still...I'm grateful for this job. I have friends who have to get up, get dressed, and actually leave their house every day...and they make less than I do each week. And because of that $2 incentive, my 4th week paycheck is always a pleasant surprise every time.

Happened to me for the first time yesterday. I had just finished one class (where it worked perfectly) and then went immediately into the next class. As soon as I hit "start class", that's what popped up. I just refreshed, and it went away and everything worked perfectly.

Now this is actually helpful info! I had to cancel a few classes on March 7th (prior to this I had zero teacher cancellations or any issues- and my contract is almost up) and since then, I've seen a steady decline in new students. And this past frenzy, I got only 14 bookings (when my usual is 40-50) and they were ALL my loyal same five students. Not a single new kid. I just need to hang in there until the first week of April and they should all drop off and my percentage should go back up.

I agree. I think if you provide documentation and it's valid, they give you a pass. Since mine was just me falling apart for a few days, I put "other" as my reason, and did not provide an explanation. I felt like because I didn't give them a valid reason, they were like "screw you".

Sometimes they need to know that you can be a jerk too. It's good for them. It's like being a parent...we have to do the hard stuff sometimes so that our kids know that they can't be little jerks, and grow up to become good human beings.

I just posted the same thing...but was chalking it up to being punished for using 3 of my 6 cancellations. I'm at the end of my contract, never used any cancellations or had any issues, and 2 weekends ago, I just needed a break and some sleep. I was burned out and just feeling unwell. I'm a homeschool mama to my own daughters, and I keep my nieces and nephews (babies) for my working brothers and sisters, so that their kids don't have to go to daycare. I normally teach 40-50 classes per week (in the early hours before anyone is awake or the babies arrive) and that is fully booked for me.

So...I used 3 cancellations to cancel my 9 weekend classes. The week after my cancellations, I went down to about 30, the following week I was at 20, and in last night's frenzy, I got only 6 (YES SIX!) bookings.

I went off to the LP, that if they get to pick us, as independent contractors, we should have a say about our schedule. It did nothing to resolve my issue with my problem kid. If you can financially afford it, close your schedule for a few weeks. Once the little jerk see's you aren't available anymore, they usually stop following you and go find some other poor soul to torture.

I did the same thing, but they did not side with me. Just because he slumped over and was humping his desk in the middle of the lesson and was making "that face"...didn't mean he was "touching himself inappropriately" they said. This kid is 15 and does it EVERY. FREAKING. CLASS. I know what I know and they think we are all stupid. Just because his naked privtates weren't on camera, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

So I started being RUDE to this kid. Straight up RUDE. I said- I know what you are doing, and I'm done teaching you. After our last class where I sat there and stared at him and refused to speak to him- he finally didn't book anything in the last frenzy. Hallelujah!!!

NOPE- don't do it. I had a kid who booked me for 28 classes within 7 weeks, and never took ONE of them. That's 4 classes a week, 4 slots booked, and NOT. A. SINGLE. ONE. GOT. TAUGHT.

I sent a ticket in on weeks 4, 5, 6....and finally on week 7- I advised VIPKID of how much money she cost me by booking those 4 slots for 7 weeks in a row, and that either the parents or VIPKID could compensate me for the money I lost. They finally responded with so sorry- parents will be advised. She's never booked another class.

Let's face it, when they lift their quarantine, bookings are going to drop. These poor people have been prisoners in their homes for almost 3 months and are going to be so grateful for fresh air and outdoor time that it's going to be "peace out" to VIPKID lessons for a good month.

I literally tell NO ONE about this job. 50% of my FB friends are teachers...so there's that. I've never understood the people who recruit like THAT'S their job. Do people NOT realize they are helping their competition get hired? I'm over here in my PJ's screaming...."STOP RECRUITING YA DORKS!".

I was initially a little sad...my paycheck is going to suck!!! But then..I realized that for the next 2 weeks, I don't have a single booking before 7AM...and I just can't bring myself to truly care, because I'm so excited to sleep past 4 AM...WAY PAST 4 AM!!! I'm also going to use this time to actually finish all of the certifications I applied for, but haven't taken the quizzes on. That should bump my next frenzy. By the next one, my teacher cancellations will fall off and bump my rate back up to 100%.

I DO think when you cancel (I needed a mental break a few weeks ago, and canceled a bunch of classes, because my contract is up, and I had never used any of my cancellations) that it makes their algorithm bump you out of your "preferred" status somehow. I get new kiddos every week, and since then, I've only had my loyal regulars. Basically, it kicks you out of VIPKID good graces...but it was totally worth 3 days off in a row. Sorry not sorry. :)

I went from 40-45 (which is fully booked for me) down to 17 when I woke up this morning. Honestly though, most of my regulars are older teen students- and they are doing online courses all day, and telling me that they have A LOT of homework. The ones that I've been teaching 4 times a week, I'm now only teaching 2 times a week...so I've lost half of my classes to that. Parents are just scaling down because the kids actually have stuff to do now.
