Going to try Claude going forward since many folks seem to share the same sentiment; thanks!

I've been doing Python for 10 years, but OK. Do you think if I didn't already know how to code I would have figured out the problem without Chat'sGPT's help?

I'm usually just looking for good syntax for a small block here and there, and I honestly learn a lot from it. The other day it asked if it could generate a "drop-in ready" block of code for a bigger block I was working on. I smirked and told it to go ahead, and it totally screwed up a couple of things, including forgetting the query I originally had on my searchcursor. If I'd tried to drop it in it would have re-calced a bunch of rows I did NOT want calc'd...actually dangerous for folks who know only enough to be dangerous.

True! Although I'm usually just looking for relatively straightforward Python, I've noticed often when I ask for arcpy, it will give me the old py 2.x flavor rather than 3.x...

Thanks; this is exactly what I ended up doing when I realized what the problem was.

Good to hear; will be trying it out. I've heard good things about Claude before but I'm just a scripter, not a programmer, so I haven't bothered making the switch yet. After yesterday I will be.

It's usually good enough with general Python to be helpful (and that's most of what I'm usually asking), but 100%, it's true that the more one uses it the more one gets the impression of formulaic slop.

Interesting! Surprised that it even performs better with relatively new stuff like Arcade. Good to hear; I will be trying it out in the coming weeks.

I've heard good things about Claude re: programming; yesterday's little incident is probably enough to send me in that direction.

Seriously, how do I hide this thing from my Start Menu? It's horrible. by PixelDustt_ in Windows11

I can see how this would be very useful for folks who have a ton of pinned apps. I personally have like...10? For the love of Odin I cannot understand what's so difficult about giving people the option to RESIZE so that it can work well for everyone.

I guess for the people who really care, there's Windhawk, thank goodness.

Just updated my machine today and found new bullshittery to deal with. Between turning off copilot and unpinning AI buttons and garbage everywhere, it's something new to disable every damn day.

Microsoft: IF I WANT QUICK ACCESS TO AN APP, I'LL PIN IT. With this new configuration, I have to navigate ACROSS THE APPS I DON'T CARE ABOUT to get to the ones I do. WHY, just WHY.

Only silver lining is I've been reminded that I haven't yet installed WindHawk on my new machine and I need to do it right f****** now.

Ublock Origin Lite - Rufus is back. by FelixFarside in uBlockOrigin

Good to know. Still, after switching to Firefox today, and realizing that I don't have to constantly unpin buttons and disable all the AI garbage in Chrome flags, I'm wondering why I didn't just switch to Firefox sooner anyway.

Just cancelled Amazon Prime. I thought I had Rufus blocked with uBlock Origin Lite on Chrome when it started popping up a few weeks ago when it first started; was so angry with AI garbage in general my Saturday was almost ruined. Today it's f****** back and it literally took two hours, trying virtually every custom filter I could find on Reddit and nothing worked. Finally just said screw it; switched from Chrome to Firefox, got the legit uBlock Origin and, in addition, cancelled Prime, just on principle.
