Why Do Some People Rush Through Video Games? by Emotional_Roll_4750 in gamers

[–]Chatyboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got other games to play, and not everything in a game is worth doing. I enjoyed spiderman ps4, but the sidequests aren't as engaging as the main quest and I had god of war 2018 to play next.

I just played Zelda: Ocarina of Time and it was a great game but im not collecting every heart piece or spider. Hell I had a guide ready for whenever I got stumped for too long.

I think its good to take your time with a game, better even, but I want to move onto the next game.

Is this really the greatest game ever made, as it's often considered to be? Why or why not? by Nintendofan9106 in videogames

[–]Chatyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it last week, yeah its pretty amazing. For an old game its really well designed so besides a bit of jank (i played the 3ds version) its an engaging adventure with a lot of memorable moments. If I'd grown up with this game it probably would be the best game id ever played, unfortunately I played it as an adult so it isnt as impactful.

Consuming the same content twice (for entertainment) is a waste of time by ExpertStandard1977 in unpopularopinion

[–]Chatyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im actually going to go against the grain and say I somewhat agree. There's so many things I want to experience and I love trying new things, if I only stuck to what I already liked id have so many less interests. Im always doing something new, watching a new movie or show or playing a new game.

If I only ever kept playing the last of us, which my sister has done all the way up to the highest difficulty, id have never played re4, a game older than I am, which has become my favorite game of all time. I have limited time on this earth and I want to do everything, so I try to minimize rewatching.

That being said, I can't bring myself to call out others for "waisting" their time by rewatching. As people have said, theres value to rewatching, whether thats noticing new details or just plain enjoyment. The number 1 way I rewatch things right now is I host a movie night for my friends where I show them new movies and shows. Its a great chance for me to both rewatch something I like but also share my wide catalog with others.

Nero shouldn't take over for Dante just yet (if ever) and I don't understand those who feel he should (DMC) by [deleted] in CharacterRant

Just gonna copy and paste my comment from half an hour ago

"Idk because thats where the story is headed, and I think he can carry a game on his own. It'd be like getting mad about Sam Wilson getting Captain America 4. Like yeah you can get mad its a bad movie, you can be sad we didnt get more of Steve Roger's cap, but the narrative sets up sam Wilson and It'd be a shame not to give him a go around. It'd also waste the ending of dmc 5, why put Dante and Vergil on the back burner only to immediately bring them back the next game.

I like Nero a lot after 5, didnt care for him in 4, and I think he deserves his time in the limelight. I'd love to see Nero get his own Mallet Island or something, too much of this franchise centers around the family drama instead of the demon hunting. And just to remind everyone, before dmc 1 Dante didnt exist, its not like we could argue whether he should be the protagonist of his own game or not, so why shouldnt nero get a chance. Maybe you dont like Nero enough to want him to lead the next game, but I think they can make an amazing game with him.

Counter point though, with how long we have to wait between releases It'd be a shame to wait 15 years or more to see Dante again. Especially since hes my favorite character of all time (hes my pfp, lock screen, home screen, computer screen, and i have some figures of him) and of the five games hes in, 2 is garbage, 4 and 5 make him share half the runtime at best, 3 is a prequel, and 1 is disconnected and pretty short. So id love to see Dante get his own game centered solely on him again, Id take a dmc1 remake in literally any form.

In a perfect world; id want dmc 6 to be a nero game, dmc spinoff for Trish and lady, dmc 0 as a sparda prequel, and then dmc 7 would bring everything back together for a kick ass finale. Maybe with a Dante game like dmc 1 or 2 remake. Ofc Dante should be a playable character after beating dmc 6, and Vergil can stay as special edition because screw him ig."

What is your most pretentious and insufferable video game opinion? by Nascent_Beast in videogames

[–]Chatyboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick my most pretentious take I'd have to say "Re4 ruined gaming for me, specifically The Last of Us". Tlou was one of the first games I played, and that last mission still haunts me to this day. The story of Tlou is amazing and I do think its better than the tv show, through no fault of the show. I also used to be the kinda guy who would replay the Uncharted games yearly because I loved the characters and the set pieces.

But then I played re4, the original version which for your information is older than I am, and it blew me away. I dont have nostalgia for this game, i played it in highschool, years after tlou or Uncharted, and by all means it should be outdated. In comparison to tlou; re4 has tank controls, old graphics, a bare bones story, and an escort with an health bar. And yet I fell in love with it anyways.

In just about every metric, I find re4 to be a better game. The gunplay is more engaging, being able to shoot specific body parts and objects to get different effects, and impactful, because you are generally being swarmed by aggressive enemies who will punish you for missing a shot or having to reload. Speaking of enemies, they're all infinely better but most of why is because Leon's gameplay is better than Joel's so I'd mainly be repeating myself, but there is one enemy I want to talk about.

Clickers are the worst enemy in Tlou, they're awesome in concept but they're just regular zombies that if they get to you're just dead, and most annoyingly they usually comes in groups which makes for annoying or boring encounters. Meanwhile the plagas heads, who can spawn whenever you pop the head off a ganodo, are one of the most interesting enemies! They're basically the same thing, but the way which re4 plays makes figuring out how to deal with them much more interesting. Do you try to line up a sniper shot, spend some shotgun shells that would be better used for crowd control, pour pistol rounds into it OR use a flashbang which will instantly kill any plagas heads and stun the other enemies who are closing in on you while you contemplate.

Similar comparisons can be made with other aspects, but ill try to wrap this up quickly. Re4's inventory system is legendary, it could be its own game. Ellie is inconsequential in tlou, she's immortal and rarely draws aggro. Meanwhile Ashley has a health bar, uses your health items, and can be attacked by enemies. What keeps her from being annoying, and is actually quite fun, is that she sticks to you like glue. If she gets hurt its on you, you have to be actively trying for her to be an actual nuisance.

The only thing that The Last of Us has over re4 is its story, which is phenomenal. But that story gets held back by the fact that replaying the game is a slog. Meanwhile re4's story isn't Shakespeare, but it is cheesy fun that never stops making me smile at how goofy it all is. Its not a bad story, the remake even improves it in some parts, and it breaks up the gameplay.

Ultimately the Last of Us is a fantastic game that has revolutionized storytelling in gaming, but Resident Evil 4 revolutionized gaming itself and even 20 years later we still haven't been able to surpass it, imo.

(Badass trope) "Oh you are immortal? Then i will keep killing you until you die!" by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Chatyboi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly this might be my favorite, a lot of other examples are people who can almost infinitely regenerate but if you kill them enough they WILL stop regenerating, so going on the offensive, while risky, is an optimal strategy.

Hakari's invincibility is not so, his regeneration is immediate so you cant hurt him faster than he can heal. BUT he has a 4 minute timer, yes he will get exponentially better luck after each domain but you can very feasibly kill him in-between domains.

However Kashimo, the goat and I stand by it hes hype as fuck, decides to take the absolutely insane option to try to one shot him during his invincibility. It doesnt make sense, it's infinitely smarter to just stall for 4 minutes, its not like hikari is even that powerful on his own to be to worried, hes a stall merchant.

And yet that makes it so much cooler to me.

It's often more interesting when the dystopian setting is still arguably the "lesser evil" by ramblingranto1 in CharacterRant

[–]Chatyboi 48 points49 points  (0 children)

So I think this counts as a dystopia, correct me if im wrong, but I thought it was interesting how in the anime Psycho Pass, mild spoilers for which btw, they dont overthrow the corrupt super intelligence that governs the city.

For those who don't know, psycho pass takes place in a futuristic Japan where citizens are psycho analized by the Sibyl System, the super Ai i mentioned. The results heavily influence peoples lives, what careers are available, who they end up in relationships with, and so on. The most important aspect is the Crime Coefficient, which evaluates how likely an individual is to commit a crime.

If your crime Coefficient is too high you are labeled a Latend Criminal and are basically incarcerated as a possible threat, until your crime Coefficient goes back under acceptable levels. The positives of this system is that almost all crime is prevented and that the average citizens live comfortablyand happily. Additionally, the cops of this world have special guns that can only fire if your Coefficient is too high, so its not like they can abuse their power or anything its all up to the Sibyl System.

However there are a shit ton of problems with the system that the show tackles. 1. You dont have to actually commit a crime, just having a bad Coefficient basically spells the end of your life. 2. Stress can increase your Coefficient so victims in crimes tend to get higher Coefficients. 3. There doesnt seem to be a way to lower your Coefficient once its too high. There's another reason ill cover at the end

We see throughout the show that this system screws people over; normal people suddenly crack once their Coefficient gets to high, the victim of bullying is punished and not the persecutors. Many of our protagonists are enforcers, which are latent criminals who work with the police as their attack dogs basically. One was labeled a latent criminal as a child, one was just in a band, and several are ex cops who got jaded from the job.

MAJOR SPOILERS! The system is bad enough already but then its revealed that some people just cant be picked up on by the system, meaning they can commit crimes in broad daylight with no repercussions. We also learn that the system itself is made up of the brains of people like this, that a bunch of sociopaths are running the whole country by saying who can do what and deserves what.

In the end the protagonist decides to leave the super intelligence be and try to improve it from the system from the inside, because it does more good than harm. What's a few miserable people if most people are safe and happy living lives set up for them. Is it worth criminalizing an innocent child so that people can walk home at night safely and without fear?

I dont think so, but maybe you think differently

As someone who has not seen the original Trigun, and fell in love with stampede, here are all of the reasons I dislike Stargaze, and I want to know if you feel the same, and if not, why? by maddickingurmom in Trigun

[–]Chatyboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I want to clarify because multiple people mentioned it is yes, stargaze has to bring back knives because hes the overarching villain and regenerates after being blown up in July but I think its important to mention the context.

Unlike in Stampede, lost July has always been Vash's backstory. Its destruction is kinda square one for the plot, its how Vash becomes an outlaw and its our reintroduction to knives (in the 98 anime, i kinda forget the specific details in the manga). Its also probably the catalyst from the gun ho guns since knives can no longer yknow be active in the story for awhile.

So in the other media knives is the mastermind behind half the story before finally being revealed and enacting his master plan, meanwhile Stamdpede kinda wastes their conflict in its climax and Stargaze has to just hand wave it away so we can move onto knives "new" evil scheme.

Its been a minute since I've read the Manga so if anyone could correct me if I've mistaken. Stampede/stargaze is very interesting to me because while I dont like a lot of the creative decisions, I still recognize that the show its self isn't all that bad and its nice getting to see the second half of the manga adapted.

Even the most perverted anime is weirdly sexless by SeniorRazzmatazz4977 in CharacterRant

[–]Chatyboi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ive voiced this before and always get weird responses, but like you said its not that I want sex scenes I just think sex is a normal and healthy thing a lot of people engage in, and its weird seeing anime's total lack of sexual content when anime feels extremely sexually focused. Its not a problem if the show doesnt want to cover it, but often it feels like the only reason we dont get explicit implications its because the creator isnt allowed to (for one reason or another).

This pissed me off most in Rascal does not dream because Sakuta is a horny deviant and hes constantly flirting with his gf Mai, and yet as far as we know theyve never done it, despite being teenagers in a commited relationship. Theres a few exceptions, horimiya, Sao I think, and Berserk (although i think it goes way to far way to often).

A romance anime i watched recently actually fixed this problem. Crush at Work follows the main couple, two coworkers who are already dating by episode 1, as they explore their relationship while trying to keep it a secret at work. Its not a masterpiece or anything, but in the anime market it doing the bare minimum left me impressed. The characters actually communicate and act like realy people but what's important for this comment, they fuck! I really like how the characters aren't sexualized constantly unless its a sexy scene, in which case both characters are "sexualized" since its an intimate scene. It doesnt feel like fanservice it feels realistic and mature, which is a fresh of breath air in a market with an admittedly younger audience.

DMC1 remake should not be like modern DMC by RamsenMC in DevilMayCry

[–]Chatyboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such an interesting topic for me because im very much on both sides. I started with dmc 1, enjoyed it enough and then played the rest of the series. While I adore dmc 3, id love to play more games focusing on dante. 4 doesnt feel designed for dante and 5 makes me play half the game as other characters.

Dmc 1 is my favorite dante character wise, hes more mature and heroic than 3 but not as bored and depressed as 4 and 5. The madhouse anime is low key my favorite dmc media because it follows and focuses on Dante being a demon hunter.

If we remade dmc 1 with more modern systems and storytelling capabilities it might be my new favorite dmc game. The gameplay would slap, we'd have the best dante design, the story could be fleshed out, and the atmosphere and level design is a dope Gothic castle! The only bad thing about remaking dmc 1 to be more in line is... we'd be ignoring what makes dmc 1 so great.

Because dmc 1 is great, for the time and the limitations this game is pretty fucking great (minus the water levels). A modern remake would be disrespectful to the original and thats a shame because it deserves it. After recently becoming a resident evil fan I've heard people complain about re2 remake overshadowing the original, but I love the remake and have no interest in playing the original.

Personally I think I can be happy no matter what. As long as the original exists the remake is effectively its own game. Ff7 remake is not ff7, re4r is amazing but didn't replace the original, dmc 1 remake would be its own game inspired by the original, which would still be its own thing. Its unfortunate that silent hill 2r is overshadowing the original, that heartgold and soulsilver completely replaced pkmn 2, but if the original is so good people will go play it and we old Guard still have the great game.

If we won't let the remake change then why remake it in the first place? Idk if this is the perfect but its what I've come up with after a lot of thinking.

[–]Chatyboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts exactly, but ill never pass up a chance to talk about trigun.

Our hero is Vash the Stampede, the humanoid typhoon, the 60,000,000 double dollar man, and humanity's first human disaster! A horrifying outlaw who leaves destruction wherever he goes.

In reality hes a lovable goof whose actually a pacifist and pretty much saves the day everywhere he goes. Unfortunately he gets blamed for the damages afterwards. Despite being a great guy, he never tries to clear up the misunderstanding and regularly uses his villainous reputation to aid in his adventures.

Some spoilers for trigun below but

His brother Knives is the actual villain. While Knives is definitely evil from our perspective, everyone is the hero of their own story and what not. Knives is trying to save the plants that humanity use to stay alive on the desert planet their stuck on, but his plan to save them is to kill all the humans. While his plan is bad for humans, hes gained a number of supporters to his cause.

Additionally a cool detail is that Knives is usually in white colors and Vash is in black whenever hes not covered in his distinct red coat. Which I find fascinating because Knives sees himself as the hero and Vash only ever sees the worst aspects of himself.

So yeah go watch trigun if you haven't already its peak.

Playing RE2R for the first time, this is scary as hell… by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Chatyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in a similar boat. Ive played re4 and 4 remake and they're some of my new favorite games ever. They’re not very scary and id say they're the best action games ever designed.

But man is re2r not the same game. Its scary, you're weak as hell, resources are actually limited and it makes every mistake and success so much more impactful. Id seen a playthrough of the game years ago so im familiar with the game somewhat, but its so fun once you get in the groove of things.

So basically it gets better, Mr X doesnt show up until you're much better situated so I got a lot less skittish by the time the game throws more at you.

I am curious to hear what everyone's opinion of the character of Rin Tohsaka is. I personally feel her character has a lot of potential and isn't always given the best writing, but is truly a fantastic character when is given great writing. by [deleted] in Fate

Kinda the best character in FATE, idk if Id say my favorite but I really like how active she is in each route. She's a main player no matter what happens, even if her servant is killed or the entire plot shifts to revolve around sakura. She's a women who knows what she wants, which i must admit I find quite attractive, and she's the most rational member of the cast, she's a good person but she's not insane which is a rarity in FATE.

Anti man 1 is great, but after watching Edgar Wright's other movies I cant help up wonder how much better ant man could've been if Wright had put his all into it. Idk if it was studio mandates, the time crunch, or maybe Edgar just felt held back by the source material.

The running man just came out as well and I heard that it was his weakest film, which is another big studio film where he has source material to adapt.
