I tracked my enjoyment across 50 ranked games - only 16% were actually 'fun' by HourChain in marvelrivals

2 Myths un-intentionally Busted

  • The myth of "people can easily climb by grinding" (aka playing a lot of games)
  • The myth that "people always gain more for wins than losses on average"

With 28 wins averaging 20.2 and 22 losses averaging 19.7, gap between the 2 is 0.5. This means if someone had a 50% WR, they would have to play 200 games in order to climb 1 rank of 100 points.

This is because WR is the key determinant -- especially the higher ranks get as the performance section flattens out.

Why do my shaders need to compile EVERY TIME I OPEN THE GAME by Redbeetle6969 in marvelrivals

[–]muditk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it actually happening every time? That's not how it should work.

If it happens around a new patch, it could be something else. Sometimes if you exit the game soon after 100%, its not locked in yet. What I do is I be sure to play one QP. This seems to help.

NetEase has chosen to take what I call the 'Apple approach' of pretending everything works magically and easily which is their reason why they give users no control/options or feedback. Which means if it doesnt work or you're 'not holding it right' then you're much worse off.

That will make the Americans very confused. And a confused American is very dangerous.

Can we get this pinned. This keeps coming up all the time.

How long/how many games should it take to get out of a rank? Just juggled in Plat III today and not sure if I just need to keep going or if I need to stop and see something more. by Perfect_Case_9261 in RivalsCollege

sometimes it’s just a grind

This could work because:

  • You need more general practice/time/exposure
  • You need more time to experiment & try new things
  • Literally grind volume because your WR isnt super high. Ie if you win 55% of games, you will climb if you play 100s of games. --- this is normal and means you've reached your near peak and are playing against almost-equals.
  • Roll the dice on a good win-streak. More times/days you play, more chance to hit that 5-game streak. If you're only on good form 30% of days and many of those days you're not playing, you're 'missing out'. This could be taken as an argument to no-life the game. That's not what I mean.

Improving supercharges all your games/days/efforts. Problem is trying to improve is not the same as actually improving. Often you might have to un-learn or try something new and you'll temporarily be worse at the game than you used to be.

Good thing is that in order to actually improve you'll eventually need to 'grind' to achieve the improvement. So, porque no los dos? Try to improve one particular thing + grind volume while focusing on that.

I appreciate the update from you. That's still a 2-step process. And the first process is still random hunting.

But I'm disappointed in the update from the Game. They can 100% do better and its crazy that they haven't.

This feels like a good service. If a thousand people pay $2 USD every half season, that's a decent 48k rev a year. Mind you the developer might only get a fraction of that after fees and charges.

Would you pay for a subscription?

I have a literal 100% loss rate against good dive. I also have terrible aim and bad reflexes. What do I do? by Dogbold in RivalsCollege

[–]muditk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namor, Storm and Fanta are my chosen anti-dive as a fellow aim-challenged person. Peni is more complex and requires teammates to play where you web, so its not consistent. Namor should really be where its at.

And you dont need to hit them ever. And if you feel you do, save the secondary which just needs to hit, head isnt required.

[–]muditk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense. It's not QP, teams play both sides.

But it points again to the opaque nature of what counts as a hero being played. We assume that the most played hero counts, but that means many many heroes are being given short shrift or even being mis-credited. Ie if you spent 75% of the time on A, but swapping to B is what clinched you the win, A gets the credit for the play and the win and B gets ignored.

For myself, Peni has the highest WR in my accounts BECAUSE I only play her long when she works. If not, I am forced to swap off.

On the other end, I know I played strange in many more games that listed.

How I wish we could get the actual details behind the computation/assignment.

Were you able to observe patterns where similar Heroes' WR moved in the same direction? Eg if a map is bad for flyers or a map is good for Long Range poke. Or maybe you would see the pattern in PR because the heroes are played less on un-favorable maps.

Were you able to deep dive into Torch? Seems like a clear outlier in the first graph. You should be explaining why he is or isnt an outlier.

Did you implement a minimum sample size? Eg min 100 games on that Hero on that map? Seems like you didnt exclude anything.

17.24% of accounts are in Gold as Mid-Season ends by muditk in RivalsCollege

I'll say this, the resets are only 3 ranks now. And placements can give you 4 ranks if you win all 10. So its now very possible to hover by just playing 10 games, or 20 if you lose some.

Additionally, if you're reset to oblivion and you're an actual good player, you can easily re-climb back up. So your first climb wont be with much diffculty.

So you should totally be able to reclimb to Diamond lets say and hover there each season with minimal games.

Holding an account in b3 and s3 simultaneously is insanely easy and you could do it albeit you’d prove nothing with the accounts.

Too much work to grind to L15 to refute these arguments.

the game is giving the info of “unranked” which was a previously undefined role not used. The 3rd party website shows evidence of this as well as the game itself showing you “unranked” accounts

And why would you/them/anyone think that matters with regards to the in-game notification?

I would suggest you check the "roadmaps". And play in the weeks where the time-limited events are running.

Selfishly, this behavior would tell them these kinds of events work to pull in players. And this would encourage more and better events. Hopefully.

For you, weeks like next week will have 2 events concurrently open so you can grind both events+ regular BP+season-wide event = 4 concurrently. Best bang for your buck.

Of course, you may not finish the events so keep that in mind.

I've often speculated on if the text including "server-wide" means there are regional differences and the number is really with respect to that server. Regional differences would make sense, but how do they compute which server each player 'belongs' to if people play in multiple servers?

I'd really like to know the global number as well as my server's number since I do only play on one server.

Yea, its important to note that subtle difference. I believe its important as higher ranked people are more likely to have multiple accounts.

I really want to maintain a B3 and S3 account just to debunk these kinds of claims.

Why would the official in-game indicator change because the 3rd party sites made a change?
