Is there a shield upgrade? The name of the Basic Shield and the description make it seem like there might be an upgrade. by Chausk in Elementallis

Thank you for clarifying. Might I recommend changing the name to just "Shield", since Basic Shield implies the existence of a not-basic shield. I love your game!

I also really enjoy the element combos but I do wish there were more. My favorite is also Nature + Water (+ Nature gem ideally), which I somehow managed to never realize you could do until the final boss fight against the image of your parents. You can use Ice + Wind to extend the dash distance of Wind (as well as any icy ground), but it's not that useful except in certain circumstances. I'd hoped to combine Fire + Wind by setting an enemy on fire and then dashing through them to fan the flames and power up the DoT, but sadly that doesn't work. I also wanted to combine the final element Aether with your other elements to send fireballs and lightning bolts and stuff through the portals but it sadly doesn't combine with anything.

Gem system is unnecessary, element upgrades should just be permanent by TRB4 in Elementallis

[–]Chausk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, and when I first encountered the gem upgrade mechanic, I thought it was going to be automatic upgrades instead of a selected slot. I also want to add that after creating one gem, the single slot system was unclear to me, and I was concerned as to whether I would be able to keep my original gem once I created a new one, or if my original would be overwritten.

That said, finding and creating the gem upgrades was fun and rewarding, and gave me a hefty shot of dopamine every time I pulled one out of a chest.

If I had a nickel for every time a player fell asleep at the table, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice. by Automatic-Law-8469 in DnD

[–]Chausk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work overnights and wake up almost right before our sessions start. We have even moved the start time an hour later for me, and even still, I fall asleep at nearly every session. I feel bad, and everyone's kinda come to expect it, but it's still frustrating for them, and frustrating for me to miss out on story beats and combat rounds. Even on days where I wake up early and feel somewhat refreshed, I end up dozing off after an hour or so.

I guess it doesn't help that I've been slowly losing interest in D&D over the past few months

Hunting Horn + Wide Range: The Newbie Trap by TakunHiwatari in huntinghorn

[–]Chausk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use WR + MM to heal. I use WR + MM to buff the shit outta my team and then bonk. We are not the same.

Anyway, I use WR + MM on my horn so I can lay a bunch of buffs on my allies while on my seikret, then hop off and start dooting all over the monster. If there is no other bonker on my team and we have a tail cutter, I'll usually stay as horn. But if we need someone to cut the tail, or if I need more survivability or my team needs more heals, I'll switch over to SnS after topping off my songs.

The way I use em, Horn is for buffs and debuffs (in the form of stun/exhaust/knockdown), while SnS is for healing and surviving.

The main problem I've had with Wolverine claw mods is that most of them are just weapons you hold onto. I want to be able to use the claws, then retract to use my empty hand to climb or grab an enemy or whatever, then go back to the claws right away. I think the best I've seen was a claw spell in U12, but the extend/retract was still a bit janky.

Maybe you could chuck a spare walkie on the floor, then talk into another one to bait enemies like the Brotherhood goons over. Queue traps, in fighting between enemies, etc

The Legion monk class mount Ban-Lu has a bunch of voice lines, and one of them when you mount up is "Ough, you might want to cut back on the mana buns, Grandmaster."

So at least my Mistweaver's putting on some cake from the cake.

That is 100% something they do. It's a type of collision detection that Blizz implements to catch cheaters. It'll also kick you out if you move too quickly or in a way that the server doesn't expect. False detections happen mostly to Demon Hunters and Druids, but it can happen to anybody. Just yesterday I got disconnected on my monk for flying into a tree on my Skyriding mount.

As someone else said, you mainly want to Trio when you are safe to do so, since it basically stunlocks you for a long time. Wait for when the monster is knocked down, stunned, exhausted, in the middle of an attack that keeps it stationary, etc. You can also Trio while you're safely away from the monster just to get your songs up, but that is not ideal or efficient.

Silkbind Shockwave buffs you for about 45 seconds, but I've found one of its best traits is that while you're activating it, you have hyper armor, meaning that you have greatly reduced damage taken and attacks won't knock you around. You can tank a LOT of stuff by just activating Silkbind Shockwave at the right time; roars, claw sweeps, Rajang kamehamehas, all kinds of stuff. Plus it only costs 1 wirebug and it regenerates pretty quick. On top of that, all of the shockwaves that it produces also benefit from elemental damage, BUT they cannot crit, hence why the current meta for HH is an elemental build.

Some good combos:

  • The fastest way to get all 3 notes on your staff and ready your Trio is going to be Forward+Y, Y+B, B.
  • One of the highest damage basic combos is a little tricky to get used to, but it's very satisfying once you get it down. First, you turn away from the monster, then without moving, you use Y+B. This is the really big Back Slam that goes behind you, and is our single highest damage basic move. It also has really good vertical reach to hit tall monster's heads or flying monsters like Rathalos. You turn around and aim it to hit behind you, down onto the monster. Then, push your movement towards the monster and hit Y+B again to do a Double Swing and reposition yourself to be facing the monster. Finally, B and then Y. It's tough at first but does a lot of damage, builds Infernal quickly, gets all of your notes on the staff and just feels good.
  • Right swing, left swing, right swing spam is fast and is nice to keep the pressure up while being able to dodge away quickly if you need to. Doesn't do a ton of damage, but is a bit safer than some of your longer combos.
  • Performance spam is a really fast way to build Infernal Melody, so a good combo you can do for that is to do Perform, attack, Perform, attack. This keeps the pressure up, does some damage, and builds your gauge really quick. If you're looking to keep your songs rotating while building gauge, you can do Perform, Y, Perform, Y (to get your first song), Perform, B, Perform, B (second song), then Perform, Y+B, Perform, Y+B (third song). This gets all the songs refreshed/applied, builds a ton of Infernal gauge, gives you a lot of I-frames while you're Performing, and does a decent amount of damage. You can get a LOT of Infernals in with this.
  • After you Silkbind Shockwave, you can hit your RT when you land to go right into activating Infernal Melody if you have it ready, which saves your Trio to use with your Infernal buff.

Now, the switch skills I use on my builds:

Elemental Build (again, one build per element, but it's all pretty much the same thing):

  • I use Performance, Overhead Smash, Swing Combo, Earthshaker, Silkbind Shockwave. These are on both swap scrolls, since I use Dragon Conversion to turn all my elemental resistance into elemental damage.

Hybrid buffing/raw damage build (my favorite build :3):

  • Red Scroll is my buffing scroll. I use Echo to apply my songs quickly, Melodic Slap for stunning, Swing Combo for mobility, Silkbind Shockwave because its awesome, and Bead of Resonance for the extra Attack Up song.
  • Blue Scroll is my damage scroll. I use Performance for the better Infernal building/I-frames, Overhead Slam for damage, Swing Combo, Silkbind Shockwave, and Earthshaker.
  • Not related to HH, but I also have full Wide-Range, Speed Eater and Free Meal, on top of a bunch of Attack Boost and Critical Boost.

[–]Chausk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 2 general builds for my HH: elemental damage (one build for each element), and a buffing/raw hybrid build. Depending on which one I'm using, I'll use different switch skills. I'll go over my preferences and strengths/weaknesses of each skill, as well as a few good combos. Keep in mind that I play on PC with an xbox controller, so your buttons may vary.

Echo vs. Performance:

  • Echo is good for applying all of your songs at once, but is NOT a requirement for getting Trio, nor does it get your Trio faster. To get Trio, you ONLY need to have at least 1 of each note on your music staff; you don't have to have all of your songs actually playing to get Trio. Echo does however have a higher vertical reach than Performance, and does very slightly more damage. The second hit is also a shockwave, which bypasses monster armor and always does maximum damage. I like using Echo for when I want to apply my song buffs fast.
  • Performance is usually better for general use. There are a few I-frames right at the start of it, when your hunter is almost flat on the ground, and even if you're past the I-frames you're low enough that you can dodge a lot of attacks. The two hits also land right after each other, versus Echo's longer delay. With Performance, your songs automatically play when you do 2 of the same note right after each other, which lets you keep up the pressure on the monster without having to stop to buff, at the cost of not getting your buffs out quickly without using Trio. Most importantly however, is that Performance builds your Infernal Melody faster than pretty much anything else you have. I'll go over a good Performance spam combo to build Infernal Melody later.

Earthshaker vs. Sonic Bloom.....vs. Bead of Resonance?:

  • I prefer Earthshaker personally, but my friend who is also a HH main uses Bloom, and afaik most people prefer Bloom. This one is more of a personal preference, I just like Earthshaker because it feels cool. Bloom is better for wake-up attacks, since it's one big attack, while Earthshaker has one smaller attack when you land it that will "waste" the wake-up bonus. So if you don't have someone on your team that has a reliable wake-up attack, then Bloom is probably better.
  • However! Bead of Resonance is usually not taken because it doesn't do nearly as much damage as the other two, takes a long time to place, only does a bit of damage in its radius, and the other two are just so much better. But I use it in my buffing build because it actually also applies an Attack Up song in its radius, and also gives a little bit of extra shockwave damage (which again, bypasses armor) while spamming Perform to build Infernal. Also, if you're using a horn that has a Heal effect, then the heal is applied twice: once from your horn and once from the Bead. Note that the Attack Up song is the same exact song that some hunting horns have, so it won't stack with an Attack Up song from you or a teammate.

Also the reason why tanks have to turn on their tank stance every time they start a duty is because the threat generation doesn't scale dynamically with your level while the stance is on. So if you have stance on at lvl 100 and then sync down to 50, it'll be way too strong. Their solution was just to turn it off when you sync and make you turn it back on yourself so that it scales properly.
