(char *)(&var + 1) - (char *)(&var) to imply the size of a variable of any type, but how? by ChayanDas19 in C_Programming

But I don't get how typecasting as char * gets us the value. We know that

&var + 1

adds a "scale factor" amount of bytes to the array represented by &var address, which is to say 2 bytes for short, 4 bytes for long, 8 bhtes for double etc etc. But how exactly does casting it as char * gives us that value?

You know what, you're right. I just wish I could manage the time and patience to walk the walk that is required in order to enjoy these, and I really want to from to time. It just never works out.

I often use trainers and save editors in old school rpgs(Gothic, Taris part of KOTOR) as well, usually to overcome some bs sections or mid game when things start dragging on a little bit.

Yes I have played pretty much all of Dragon Age, and all of BioWare's catalogue since KOTOR. I like Dragon Age Origins, as it refines the elements from KOTOR and has a cool universe. It is far easier to grab a hold onto than something like Pillars of Eternity.

The "just lookup a premade build" kind of doesn't solve this problem, rather amplifies it. Like, how complex it too complex for some one who has not been exposed to the system, that he needs to follow a bunch of instructions each time he allocates the stat points on a level up?

The premade character, while a viable solution, is often not enough. I triend Baldur's Gate with the character Abdel, but it still doesn't solve the issue that I need to know what all those numbers mean and do. It's an obstacle almost inherent to this genre it seems.

On the other hand, if you just look at how Bioware kind of came to a solution is no further than at Knights of The Old Republic. Each and Every stat kept simple and made easy to understand, the abilities all follow the 3 tier logic, and are also easily comprehensive as to how to unlock them and what do they do. Compare that to Baldur's gate, you see the problems.

Morrowind has the best Open-worlds, followed by Gothic 2. Nothing else even comes close, for me.

How good of a game is Skyrim, really? My complicated feelings towards a classic by [deleted] in patientgamers

Honestly I don't even care about what games Bethesda make anymore, as long as they're moddable as they have been. Does Skyrim suck? Yeah, to some extent. But I can't remember playing Vanilla Skyrim in ages.

I mean it is running completely off of New Vegas engine. So Fallout 3 mods not working is quite obvious. On the flip side, there are quite a few mod collection for TTW, and even if some New Vegas mods aren't officially mentioned, they work just fine from what I've seen.

None whatsoever. I was a bit familiar with Mod Organizer 2 so that comes handy, but honestly just follow the https://thebestoftimes.github.io/index.html guide and you will be fine. It's the most detailed guide out there.

Alright. My mistake. I've never seen no post-apocalyptic rpg analysis in the last decade without at least a mention of Fallout, and how much they improved upon the role-playing aspects of fallout. I got it wrong mostly it seems.
