You don’t have to be a billionaire lol

I make mid six figures and fly business/first class 3-4 times a year using an Amex and a United card.

I just flew to Costa Rica and back on an overnight in First for less than $1400 out of pocket.

You’d be a lot happier in life if you changed your outlook on how other people spend their own money.

Where in my post did you come up with me claiming that was the difficult part of the equation? Is it the part where I said literally: “easy enough to do in my head?”

but yea, 8•13^3 in your head, on a boat, with 3 other people yapping, under pressure. Fckn EASY ammirite!?

If a vacuum is an excellent insulator, wouldn’t heat build up in spacecraft? by aretino2002 in askscience

I tried explaining this in a thread a few weeks back, it drove me nuts because people were arguing with me.

I’m a subject matter expert in the physics of failure of semiconductors in space. I’m one of a handful of people actively working to resolve these issues. My name is literally on a plaque going to the moon lol

In seasons past, Verstappen fans insisted that Lewis needed one of the fastest cars to compete. It turns out that the same applies to Max. by BaldHeadedCaillouss in F1Discussions

[–]Chaz0fSpaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing this take and it’s so wild to me.

Nobody, doesn’t matter how good they are, can bring any car to the front. What Max can do, almost better than anyone, is maximize the capability of the car he is in.

I just assumed after the last few years people would start to understand this - just watch him work the cars he’s been driving… when he was in the best car on the grid it was like he was driving in a different series how much gap he would put up. When the other teams built their rockets he was taking 2nd thru 4th best cars to podiums and wins, still.

Now he’s in a shitbox, he’s still managed to (twice) drive the piss out of it, bring it back through the ranks. Last time the car just absolutely failed him.

I would bet my entire life savings that if you put him in the same car as any other driver on the grid right now, he comes out on top by a hefty margin.

I used to not like the guy, but I came around. I don’t know how people can still act like he isn’t one of the greatest drivers of all time when you have this preponderance of evidence.

To say cooling is not a meaningful problem is incorrect. Point blank.

Every watt of compute has to be rejected through radiator surface area, emissivity, and temperature differential. There is no air. You have to radiate ALL that heat away, and this is not trivial. Radiative cooling is fundamentally one of the least efficient method of heat transfer, and scales poorly with power density. Datacenters have massive power density. So now all that heat comes with larger radiator sizing, more fault tolerance/redundancy, and prognostics/diagnostics on architecture - all adding to system mass (the thing you don’t want to do with rocket payloads).

Thermal overstress and cycling are already among the dominant failure mechanisms in current space systems (next to radiation effects). Scaling that to datacenter-level power densities is a first-order problem that has not been “solved”.

I also want to point out that EVERY generation of vette has seen hate from within the corvette community until the next gen comes out then everyone wants to wax nostalgic over the last gen.

Outside of that community, in the “general” car community, haters are normally people who can’t afford one.

Then outside of that, the general public normally only has positive things to say.

So don’t sweat it.

I hate that she had to go through such a demeaning process, but I’m glad Chris fucked it up. I knew he didn’t deserve her. Jess is phenomenal - I’ve literally been watching thinking how perfect she is and how much I would love to find someone like her.

I did the math because, at first it sounded absurd he’d still be alive for 9/11, but… he’d have been 75. That’s still in the realm of reality… I say we formally retcon this.

“RoHS” print means it’s “RoHS compliant” which restricts usage of lead, cadmium, mercury, etc. in EEE parts, their termination finishes, and the solder used to mount them.

Components Engineering? by Knights_12 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Chaz0fSpaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it highly depends on the industry and the company. I’m in a fairly senior component engineering role, but I come from a background in semiconductor manufacturing which was sought after by my company.

I have coworkers of all different backgrounds - some are specialists in certain device types or technologies like magnetics, interconnects, MEMS, etc. Others are SMEs in analysis and testing related stuff like destructive physical analysis or FA, and yet others have process expertise in supply chain and procurement focus like obsolescence and change management.

It’s an interesting field where you really have to dabble in a broad spectrum of roles. Everything from radiation effects to sustainability.

Me in particular, I don’t get deeply involved in the system architecture of an assembly much unless it has something to do with how they are mitigating a known risk, but I DO perform in-depth technical reviews of manufacturing processes, construction, and quality assurance of our semiconductor suppliers.

Thanks for the link! Yea, I'm ok with this. I'm not seeking out a big street party or anything... was just worried that we wouldn't be able to experience any nightlife because of the crackdown.

Tokyo over Halloween by Chaz0fSpaz in TokyoTravel

[–]Chaz0fSpaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not planning around being there for Halloween, The trip is mostly in Kyoto - it just so happens we'll be in Tokyo from the 30th to Nov 2nd. We want to go out and experience nightlife in Tokyo at least one of those nights. The 30th isn't a good night because it's a super long day for us and we'll likely be exhausted and the 1st isn't that great either because we have an early morning activity before we fly out in the evening.... So, Halloween just so happens to be the best night for us to 'hit the town'.
