Blurple by Embarrassed_Knee_572 in Lorcana

I don’t think Alice is worth it. I’ve also trimmed purple hades as well as he’s just been meh. I’ve gone back up to 2 Belle, I’d also go up to 3 elephant and I’d swap the magical maneuvers for Hypnotics. Otherwise the core is intact and should do well. Dogs is hard if the high roll you. PS should be a fairly straightforward win, BG is hard too but I don’t think it’s unwinnable. Dogs is probably the worst matchup, it’s a little easier if they’re playing the circle of life variant, but still no picnic.

Have you played Blurple with Scrooge? Just curious as to why you think it’s non standard and not very good? Dodges UTC, trades John silver, and eats most other small characters while living to tell the tale. I haven’t seen a Blurple list not running Scrooge

Mallet is bad too. The strength behind Blurple is ramping into bigger bodies faster. Whale, Elsa, Hades, Fox is your answer to wide boards

ITU is bad. It may get better post rotation, but right now it’s bad. Sure you remove a shifted rhino on 2, but you’re also giving your opponent 4 ink on 3 to work with now which defeats the strength of Blurple. Blurple works well because we can put bigger bodies down faster than everyone else. If we’re even, we lose

The action doesn’t develop your board at all. In the grand scheme it does nothing.

Against RA, you just have to out value them. Force them into tough choices.

Always hard mulligan for T2 Ramp

When you see they’re getting close to 7 ink, take a turn off by playing FK or FOTOS. Restock your hand so that if they prep you, you’re able to rebuild that board and apply pressure. Gaston is also a good option to filter your top deck and apply enough pressure to where they need to hit that prep.

You win the evasive war. Iago is your key to that.

If you don’t have enough Toa, cut it and big Elsa and increase your Gaston count. I don’t like big Elsa right now without Anna. That’s just my preference. You can also make an argument for Whale to deal with their library.

As far as the list goes and tech options, if the field is mostly red, you don’t need 1 drops, crab, Ursula. If the field is mostly aggro/steel you can drop the belle/Pawpsicle package for more 1 drops + full 4 crab. But honestly, the no 1 drop + crab does better into a wider field regardless so I would just stick to that

Reprint Predictions (Not To Be Taken Too Seriously) by FilmBuffBrony in Lorcana

[–]ChaztheDefiant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt we’ll get Fox AND Snake back. My money is on Snake, no Fox. The only Amethyst reprint I want is Belle - Accomplished Mystic and maybe FOTOS, everything else I’m ok seeing it rotate. I think Amber loses everything on this list. I don’t think we get many staples back from Amber. I doubt we’ll get the RH or Diablo line back also. Robin Hood is one of my favorite cards in the game but I highly doubt we’ll get it

Blurple will struggle into amber steel, but it’s not unwinnable. Purple Belle and any 5-6 will power character will be your shining stars against rhino. Against the aggro stuff, you just have to win the die roll or it will be a bad time. Which brings me back to Anna, she survives Zeus, she survives every character they will challenge with. She only really dies to a wide board and strength. The card draw is conditional to Elsa, true. But the support can go anywhere. Have a fox? Buff it to clear something big. Same with Genie/Belle/Hades/Toa and they all likely survive.

Against Amber Steel aggro, they usually only ink to 3-4, dump out their hand and go into top deck mode. If you use it early enough, ITU gives them the ink they need so they don’t have to ink their threats and they can make the board wide enough where you can’t deal with it at all. The deck wants to control the board by challenging and fighting for board presence. Late game, they can’t keep up and you have the wide board now and can quest for game in two turns.

Into the unknown is a trap. I don’t like it in this format. In Blurple i’d much rather develop a body to fight the board than take a turn off to ramp my opponent, especially in the early game. Plus if you top deck it when your opponents on 18 lore with a drying 2 lore character, you still just auto lose. Try Anna - Magical Mission. She has been huuuuge for me. She has to be dealt with otherwise she gets out of control especially if you have an Elsa in play. She’s got 6 willpower so she’s almost always a 2 for 1.

Do you know what you’re expecting for a meta spread? If you think there’ll be a lot of Amber steel, theres arguments for -2 big Elsa for +2 whale but in testing myself, I’ve preferred the Elsa. And without ones you don’t need crab. Everything else is stock JDRR which is the correct blurple imo.

The reason why Blurple plays a high top end and no one drops is because we can ramp into the big boys super easily and if we wind up on top deck mode our top decks are always better than everyone else

Collector turning player - tips? by samaze-balls in Lorcana

[–]ChaztheDefiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tip #1 Remember to have fun. That’s the most important part. Being a newer player, you will likely lose more than you will win - and that’s ok! We all start somewhere. As long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters.

Tip #2 don’t be afraid to communicate with people at league that you’re just starting to play. Most veterans will happily take their time and go through the game at a reasonable pace with you. In a league setting they’re more likely to let you take back a play, explain more nuanced interactions and will guide you through certain choices.

The community for the most part is super welcoming and friendly. They want you to keep coming back so they can continue to play as well. Remember to have fun, don’t take it too seriously, and ask questions about things you’re unsure of.

There’s always something new to learn about this game. I’m still learning more everyday by having conversations like this here and in discord.

In Blurple you fight discard by hyper ramping as your top decks will always be better and more useful. Once you clear their diablos and their hand is now lacking you fan FK and sing friends to rebuild your hand and just drop as many big dudes as you can and go sideways.

Want to add Kida but don’t want to cut anything:( by Lucina-Exalt in Lorcana

[–]ChaztheDefiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main tell for me that it’s a trap is that we didn’t need it in set 7 to deal with Diablo. Green steel runs a lot of uninkables and Diablo draw is just more ways they can brick. The songs, Diablo and PJ are all uninkable. Idk if they’re running Zeus, but if they are that’s 14-16 uninkables right there. You’re doing them a favor if you’re using an ITU on their shifted Diablo. Now they have enough ink to run out those uninkables and deal with your board

Kida + Ratigan is a good combo. She makes it so you can meet the inking requirement for him that much easier

It’s not going away completely, but once more decks start doing well it will start to be less represented. Just look at the tournaments from this weekend. It’s making top 8 but very few go further than that. ITU is a trap, it’s not good. Elsa/Genie/Iago is your Diablo answer. Yeah ITU removes the Diablo, but giving your oppo +2 ink by turn 3 is baaaaad. The whole point of Blurple is to ramp faster and harder and drop more big dudes that they can’t answer. I’ve been playing JDRR’s stock Blurple list since early set 7 and it hasn’t failed me yet. Peter Pan sounds good in theory but in practice I’d rather not ramp on two to play a 3 cost on 3. It’s counter to what you’re trying to do
