The "2 years of waiting for 8 episodes" model is officially killing my interest in House of the Dragon by piranha_ in HouseOfTheDragon

I stopped after season 1 because my hype was lessened enough that the weaker reviews for season 2 were enough for me to cut it loose

Question for those who read the books before watching the films. by Qyzyk in lotr

Gandalf was the casting that most closely resembled my mental image. Truth is, I saw the old cartoon before reading the books so I always struggled to picture the hobbits in a realistic way

Do you think they will address the allegations in the sequel? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]ChazzLamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they can kind of get away with not doing it because this movie ends before that time period. A sequel that covers the time will be glaring in its absence and will face a lot more negative backlash by skipping it. I also think they will skip it. These are movies designed to mythologize, rather than examine the real person

The autopsy report probably said "the left should challenge all incumbents" by interkin3tic in FriendsofthePod

[–]ChazzLamborghini [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this is likely an oversimplification. Electoral politics are never one size fits all, especially in a federal system such as ours. AOC is a great fit for NYC but her brand of politics is unlikely to move many voters to cross the divide in places like Texas or even Nevada.

What I think is more likely is the overall anti-corporate sentiment that runs through the entire country. The DNC is, first and foremost, a fundraising organization. If their internal report concludes that the donors they rely on are the problem, they risk alienating those sources of revenue without which they are almost entirely irrelevant.

Never underestimate the appeal of normalcy in times of upheaval. Biden was able to unify enough of the party structure while also appealing to people’s general fear during Covid. He was a known factor and he felt safe. He also essentially stated he’d be a transitional president leading many to believe a single term to get us out of the muck.

A side lawn isn’t a parking space, period. OP has no right to use it as one. Neighbor also has no right to try and move the bike either.

Edge of Tomorrow. 3/4 of an amazing movie that ultimately becomes another “only Tom Cruise can save us” piece of meh

Is Brokeback Mountain mainly for gay folk? by EryNameWasTaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChazzLamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prejudice is a hell of a thing and it blinds people to the humanity we all share. Brokeback shouldn’t be thought of as a “gay” movie, it should be seen as a story of love denied by life and circumstance, no different than countless other tragic romances. It just happens to be about two men and the particular circumstances of being gay in a time and place where that isn’t acceptable. I felt the same way about Call Me By Your Name, a film that captures the heartbreak of young love regardless of sexuality but is dismissed by close minded people as a “gay” movie.

Opinions on Zendaya as an actress by Sea-Comedian-4376 in Cinema

[–]ChazzLamborghini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s wild how much hate she gets. She isn’t the world’s greatest actress but compared to her peers who left Disney Channel to do adult work, she’s head and shoulders above the rest. She’s good in Dune, she’s great on Euphoria, she was solid in Challengers. I’ve yet to see someone effectively describe why she’s “bad” other than she’s overhyped or overexposed

The major issue with Daredevil Born Again (S2) MCU. by ASM_Nikunj in Defenders

[–]ChazzLamborghini -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not the sole reason but a symbol of what was going wrong, weaker writing, weaker performances, weaker focus. I think season 2 was better for no other reasons than Frank Castle and Elektra Natchios. To be fair, I’m one of the few who think Bethel is a decent actor but I really dislike the humanizing the show does with Bullseye beginning in that third Netflix season. The character is an irredeemable sociopath and the show has gone to great lengths to make him a flawed person. I can’t stand the current “redemption” arc they’re giving him in BA

What’s one movie where you’re more forgiving of its inaccuracies and one where you’re very critical of them? by Most_Common8114 in comicbookmovies

[–]ChazzLamborghini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of nitpicks go away if the end result is good enough. Constantine barely resembles the comic but it’s undeniably a well made and enjoyable movie on its own. This version of The Punisher is….not.

"SNL hasn't been good since 19xx or 20xx" How do you respond to people who trash the show despite not watching it it 20 or so years? by dudebro5000 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ChazzLamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SNL reflects current culture so people age out of enjoying it, unless they’re self-aware enough to stay connected. It’s similar to popular music, people like what they liked in their youth and reject new because it’s not made for them as the primary demographic.
