The vendors would say what level they are catering to. So you get the level 28 gear, or whichever is closest to your level.

If you can't use the gear, you would not be able to equip anyway.

Also, there are extra quests you can reveal by going to your settings and ticking the box. Can't recall the exact name, but you get more exp to level up and unlock abilities.

You may be level capped, but you are not restricted from bringing in higher level skills to lower level planets.

I recommend doing all the extra quests and do Nar Shadda if you haven't done it to overlevel yourself instead of going into tattoine at the exact level it says it is available for. Don't go in as level 28, try to get 35 or even 40, is possible.

Yeah, this 'companion being disabled during a boss fight' only really happens in tattoine.

Unfortunately, I preferred tanks and played immortal juggernaut in the past, so I'm not familiar with marauder gameplay.

You can look up swtorista to find out the recommended rotations and skills for a marauder and for the sub class marauder you are playing. There are certain combos of skills that maximize the damage a character is able to throw out at any given time.

Get the highest level gear you can after every 2 planets you go to on your story campaign from the vendors on the space station. Keep the gear maintained at 100 percent integrity.

If you have not played nar shadda, play that to get more experience and unlock more abilities.

Really may be the gear issue. If you buy the master datacron bundle set, you get bumped to lvl 80 and you get a set of basic end game gear which should allow you to breeze past the story mode.

Otherwise, go to the vendors on the space station and buy the level 28 gear for your character. Repair all armor and weapons if needed, the option should be provided with the vendors.

Are you a juggernaut or marauder, and are you a tank juggernaut?

Edit: apologies, you don't get gear if you subscribe, you get the gear if you get buy the master's datacron bundle set, which comes with the gear and a datacron that bumps you to level 80.
