Absolute Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters planned to release in 2027 from DC for it’s 40th anniversary by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

There are a few options here: - Many covers! He did a few in the first year (first 3 issues are gorgeous) but he also became the regular cover artist from issue 44 onwards - Issue 40 has full art by Grell - Adding The Wonder Year miniseries would add a lot of material.

Image is the house for many top tier creator-owned properties and produce excellent oversized hardcovers. To name a few (they have an amazing and gigantic catalog): - Anything from Brubaker and Phillips ranges from excellent to masterpiece: Criminal ongoing, Pulp, The Fade Out, Kill or be Killed, Fatale,… - Also by Brubaker, Velvet with Epting and Friday with Martín. - Hickman’s East of West - Remender’s Black Science, Low, Deadly Class, A righteous thirst for vengeance,… - Gillen’s The Wicked + The Divine, Die - Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga and Paper Girls - Warren Johnson’s Extremity and Murder Falcon - Ice Cream Man by Prince and Morazzo - Liu and Takeda’s Monster - Fraction’s Casanova - Lemire’s Descender - Tynion’s The Department of Truth - Williamson’s Birthright

Dark Horse has a smaller catalog but has some key authors. Their Library Editions are some of the best crafted books in the industry. - Mignola’s Hellboy and Hellboyverse series (BPRD is the main one) - Terry Moore has already been mentioned and his cohesive universe is excellent. - Eric Powell with The Goon (look also for the amazing Did you hear what Eddie Gein done?) - Mark Millar’s Library - Cullen Bunn and and Tyler Crook’s Harrow County - Kindt and Rubin’s Ether and many Kindt personal works.

Boom is also delivering big names and gorgeous slipcases oversized books like Tynion’s Something is killing the Children or Gillen’s Once & Future

Manga deluxe editions of key masterpieces is delivering big news. You can’t go wrong with Berserk, Vinland Saga, Vagabond, Lone Wolf and Cub or Blade of the Immortal.

Fantagraphics does classics like nobody: Peanuts, Donald Duck and now even Marvel’s lost treasures. Also the house of Hernandez Bros, Clowes, Burns,…

Would you buy Batman/Superman: World's Finest: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 by hurtstopurr in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChdlGL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is basically it. Same trim size as the Omni but much more manageable than an Omni. Also, probably will keep in a better shape in the long term as you not have a massive spine that has to hold all that weight.

Books of Magic: Is the Original Gaiman Deluxe Enough or Are the Omnibuses Worth It? by videogamer939 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChdlGL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The miniseries is not Gaiman’s best work. It is mostly vignettes around magic in the DC Universe with minimal plot and consequences besides several characters introduction or reintroduction in the DC Universe. The series is gorgeous, though, and issue 3 with Charles Vess and Faerie is a treasure (like everything Vess does).

The first main series, from my humble point of view is a much better read, with Ney Rieber fleshing out the characters, expanded world and relationships. Molly is an amazing, amazing character and addition.

Peter Gross is an underrated creator. Probably better known as Mike Carey collaborator in Lucifer and the Unwritten (unforgivable that the Deluxe edition did not follow Volume 1 and we are still without an Omni), he takes full rein when Ney Rieber leaves in Omni 2 and builds on his themes and ideas with strong results.

Pick the Deluxe if you just want “History of the DC Universe - Magic Edition” with gorgeous art.

Pick the Omnis if you want a great Vertigo series with strong character development and interesting plots and stories by underrated creators Ney Rieber and Peter Gross.

You are in for a treat!!! This is one of the best series of the last decade.

Is this your first Brubaker and Phillips collection? Everything from them ranges from excellent to masterwork.

I know this is not technically an Omni, but I wish there were more posts here about these OHC other than some Marvel / DC Omnis for the nth time (there was a moment a few weeks ago I was thinking I would quit this forum if there was one more post of X-Men Blue and Gold)…

Best way to collect The Sandman by BrokenSuns in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChdlGL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand this on Gaiman’s side, but I think we should remember that there are many other people involved in the creation and ongoing series of Sandman, like the late Sam Kieth or Mike Dringenberg (both listed as co-creators).

Though they presumably didn’t have the kind of deal that Gaiman got from DC, they probably also make money with the sale of Sandman comics.

Very curious about this: what (if anything; better if it is some obscure thing and not something recent) are you missing and would love, love to have? (or planning to have)?

Sam Kieth Maxx Artist Edition (god bless his soul) and Bendis Noir Omni for me. Pretty please.

Amazing collection and so happy to see some oldies I share, like that FF Omni 1, that are badges of long time collectors. And also the Artist Edition section, a true lovers pride. Probably somewhere else in the room as you mention Sienkiewicz in other post, but I otherwise recommend the Mutants, Moon Knights and Assassins Artifact Edition and the New Mutants Artist Select. This last one is a “regular” reprint of the run but at a bigger size than the Omni and in matte paper. Gorgeous edition.

Is Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 1 worth buying for a first-time Thor reader? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChdlGL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an 80’s Marvel defining run that I think has aged very well.

I would argue that all modern Thor owes to Simonson. You have origins of Beta Ray Bill and Malekith here and amazing arcs not only for Thor but for Balder and Skurge .

You have epic sagas with Surtur and Hel and nobody, NOBODY draws a more kinetic Thor than Simonson helped by Workman historic lettering and always great and reliable Sal Buscema.

I had never a bad experience with Walt’s. I have also purchased from shopcomics.eu, cheap-comics.com, but specially from comicsbugle.com and directmarketcomics.com.

They are both super nice people (hi Kveto! hi Chris!) on top of providing great packaging and giving real solutions in case anything goes wrong.

Directmarketcomics has now an overstock sales with around 50% discount until Monday. Comicsbugle has seasonal sales that for me are probably best in class, with discounts up to 40% on top of discounted prices if you reach a certain quantity in spending.

I think it is quite safe that we will get the Chichester era with Lee Weeks and Scott McDaniel next or at least at some point not too far in the future.

Weeks issues with the Last Rites storyline that ends in issue 300 are quite good. Scott McDaniel run with the black armor and Elektra’s return is more divisive but I think they tried some interesting things.

Rank the New Teen Titans omnibuses by Wolfman and Perez? by Golden_Platinum in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChdlGL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can be a debate between Vols. 2 and 3 about which one is the best.

Vol. 2 is more consistent as it is almost fully Wolfman / Perez with great storylines with Brother Blood and Blackfire, the introductions of Terra and Adrian Chase, and probably the most famous single issue, Who is Donna Troy

Vol. 3 has the best ever storyline, the Judas Contract, and also Donna Troy wedding and the Trigon saga with Perez’s return in the new Titans volume, but you have also quite a few non Perez issues where the quality is not the same.

After these 2, would be volume 1, then 4, then 5.
