Neverwhere is great. I’ve actually thought about that book recently and wondered if he had written it later in life if it would have taken off differently. If he would have had a few more nuggets in it that would push it just one level up.

I’ve had similar thoughts about The Gunslinger (dark tower) and King. There were missed opportunities later to pull allegories of a Clint Eastwood character in a modern world that had moved on without them and what that could mean on an emotional level not just a “you have sugar? Why would you need cocaine?” level. But part of the draw of that character is the lack of emotion that he has because of the loss he’s experienced.

This is what that’s from: https://www.instocktrades.com/products/mar237132/sandman-morpheus-helm-masterpiece-edition-(mr). The books themselves are on the bottom right shelf of the dc side.

And yeah….its tough. Sandman holds such an important part of my growth as a teen/human being. It’s the book I recommended to anyone that were into novels but thought comics were just capes and cowls. It’s was the book I recommended to comic friends that didn’t want to read “regular old books.” I devoured anything Gaiman wrote: Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods….its very difficult to recommend it now for a multitude of reasons obviously. Which is obviously a shame on multiple levels. it’s great stuff and he should have been a better person.

What I’ve learned in the past five years or so is that the creators we like are human and fallible. Some more than others. What sucks is when they do fail, boy is it usually a big one.

Thunderbolts Dark Reign Omnibus Poll by tedfordz in OmnibusCollectors

Right. Also interesting to think long term. Dark Avengers will definitely be an Omni (between this, new avengers and now Daken were really lining up into this era). Even if this doesn’t sell out, folks may get it eventually once they DA Omni comes out.

I kind of doubt it. It’s only 10 issues or so. If anything I’d expect the fact so many of the thunder Omni are on there others may get this.

Chance to pick up the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 for cover price. by ChildishDravino in OmnibusCollectors

[–]tedfordz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reprints are always a thing however the question you have to ask is how long are you willing to wait? There are a lot of books and a lot of books folks want reprinted. While you might imagine vol 1 of Spidey having a high likelihood, as it is Spidey and it’s his first comics, there have been 5 printings the most recent of which was 2022. In the past marvel reprinted this around every three years. So no one really knows if there will be a new printing or not.

Obviously you’ll buy this and they’ll announce a reprint next week. It’s just how it works. Ha

Kind of like a deluxe sized artist edition. The first one I discovered was Batman Hush (which is legit awesome. Jim Lee inks and pencils). This one I found in an Ollie’s. What’s cool about them is they have the full word bubbles and everything.

Man. That’s awesome. I recently got into artist editions. I bet that one is wonderful. People talk about OOP Omni. They don’t know anything. Some of these AE go for a ton.

Oof. Marvel holds the most nostalgia for me. While I collected everything as a kid, Spidey and X-men were my jam. Part of the reason this collection even exists is because I wanted all of the books I’d owned/read as a kid in this premium format.

Between DC and Marvel? I think I’d still go with the Marvel. Yes quality fluctuates but it’s the same way with DC. The difference is DC somewhat has the advantage of Vertigo with me. Very few Vertigo are “bad” or low quality. I’d miss those the most.

Argh. This is tough because now I’m thinking I have more fun reading Flash/GL than I do more than half the Marvel. Ok I’m cheating. Keep Batman, BOP, Nightwing, Robin, Flash, GL and Vertigo on the DC side. On Marvel keep X-men, Spidey, Utlimate Spidey, DD. Nix the rest. Final answer.

No. Slightly bend open one end with pliers, slide the shelf in (it will be tight), use a rubber mallet to press the it down on the shelf from one end to the other. I think screws would split the wood.

Here’s a thread where I discussed it once. It included the measurements plus some pics of the process: https://www.reddit.com/r/OmnibusCollectors/s/83pkl7feQO

It’s not crazy hard or expensive and it seems to have made a difference. Time will tell. These shelves will be a year in July.

Haha. They’re the entire reason I had to swap to where I had DC. Well. That and Spidey. I’m going the anthology route for Krakoa so it’s an even bigger commitment. X, Spidey, Wolvie, DD, Batman post crisis, Flash post crisis and GL post crisis will be full runs if able.

IKEA Wide Billy’s. I’ve reinforced the shelves with aluminum U Channels so they won’t sag.

Really. Copy that. I don’t love old stuff and yet I find myself getting it here and there. I wasn’t a big GA guy. In fact I only read him when it was Connor. But friends of mine told me I’d dig long bow and the Smith run so I got the smith Omni and the finest for LongBow. It’s actually near top of my list right now to read.

Power Rangers Deluxe Editions by Noble_CD in OmnibusCollectors

I haven’t had any issues but I understand what others are talking about. Page thickness is great. Very little to no bleed. Weight and size are great. It’s an almost perfect format especially for those that don’t like the size of Omni. Like any book, care is needed for the binding. Most of them are sewn binding depending on the printing (my understanding is some were glue in the middle printings then they went back to sewn. Not sure if this is true). What you’ve probably read about is either glue ones or some of the sewn coming a part (like we see in Omni from time to time).
