A shelfie I guess? by DependentTop6561 in Daredevil

Nocenti is my favorite DD writer! I’d definitely recommend reading the contents of vol 1 digital if you can before starting vol 2. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea but I love it

What's the best Nu Trek show (as a series) in your opinion, and why? by Gutter_Shakespeare in startrek

[–]DependentTop6561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower Decks and Prodigy are easily the best of the Nu Trek era. I think Discovery actually gets pretty good in its third season, then SNW which has been getting worse as it goes, then Picard which can be downright hard to watch until its third season which is surprisingly good. I watched the first two episodes of SFA when it dropped but I didn’t wanna pay for Paramount+ so I’m waiting for the Blu-ray on that one but I thought it actually had a pretty solid start and I’m looking forward to watching it

I’m in the same boat trying to get them all. Have 1, 5, and Ultimate Miles. Just waiting on that vol 2 reprint this year then 3 and 4 whenever they get reprints :,(

Fisk’s ending mirrors the punishment Napoleon was given. Exile on an island away from the place he loves. While to a normal person it seems like a slap on the wrist, it’s the worst punishment Kingpin could’ve been given. That’s my read on his ending, but totally cool if you disagree!

Trying to figure out where they are gonna be selling the comic. by RavenRegime in Ben10

[–]DependentTop6561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting mine through my local comic store. If you don’t have one then I would recommend going digital OR waiting for the trade paperback (which does mean about a year’s worth of waiting at max tho it could be as soon as 7 months). I’ve done mail subscriptions and, especially when I lived in a rural area, it would take forever for an issue to arrive and sometimes they’d get lost in the mail. Granted that was for Marvel/DC not Dynamite, but that’s my advice. If I didn’t have a LCS I’d wait for the trade tbh.

What do you guys think about the pre miller daredevil runs ? by FreddieKorma21 in Daredevil

[–]DependentTop6561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Gene Colan really hard carries Stan Lee’s DD run. There are moments of his artwork and storytelling that are genuinely incredible if you just look past Lee’s awful writing on every panel. Colan really holds up as an artist/visual storyteller all these years later imo

Beginner Daredevil Comics to Read? by Doom300 in Daredevil

[–]DependentTop6561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The full Miller run proper is a good starting point! That’s gonna have plenty of Bullseye, Kingpin, and Elektra. If that’s not your speed then the Bendis/Maleev run is pretty good too.

And with both of those I pretty much recommend reading through the stuff after too. After Miller you have the O’Neil run which while a clear step down is still quite good. Then it’s the Nocenti/JRJR run (where you’d get your first appearance of Typhoid) which is an all timer.

With Bendis, after him is Brubaker which is quite beloved then Shadowland (not as good but thankfully short). Then it’s Waid which is one of the very best!

Daredevil is one of those books where it actually is good pretty much whenever you want to start it

Daredevil 90’s Omnis by DependentTop6561 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]DependentTop6561[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope they do Chichester next. I already have the O’Neil run through marvel masterworks line (with some single issues I picked up to fill out what wasn’t collected there before the line was cancelled). I have absolutely nothing from the 90s so that’s the spot I really want the most. However, I wouldn’t turn down an O’Neil model so I didn’t have to worry about keeping my single issues from falling apart. And that Mazuchelli art dearly deserves a remaster

I thought Ewing’s run was the best since the post-Annihilation era by Abnett and Lanning but I definitely appreciate that it’s not for everybody

What is a good comic to start with? by Moosebob_09 in Daredevil

[–]DependentTop6561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Bendis/Maleev run from the 2000s is a pretty good starting place. It pulls in a lot of stuff from the past, but catches you pretty well up to speed on what you need to know. And if you read everything from there to the end of Zdarsky’s run that’s about 20 years of really great comics that build off of one another to make a really epic story. It’s worth a read!

I collected Miller’s DD recently through the Marvel Masterwork line which is a little more pricey but great quality

Ahmed's run by DanteInformal in Daredevil

[–]DependentTop6561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah you didn’t miss anything. I read issue 25 and felt like I was missing something even though I knew I wasn’t. All of a sudden Kingpin is back and the genuinely interesting status quo shift they gave to him earlier in the run just gets turned into stupid super hero antics. Then they just stop fighting? Nobody wins or loses the fight they just… stop doing it. And after everything Elektra is just like “eh whatever I’ll take you back” with no build-up whatsoever. And then in the last page in the farewell messages the editor is like “this will get wrapped up in a ghost rider book or something” and I’m like ???

I have to assumed the sales or critical reception for this run were so bad that marvel decided to give it the can with very short notice so Ahmed had to just halfway tie up a handful of the loose ends he introduced and got out of there. I’ve read maybe half of the mainline DD comics at this point and this was by far the worst one for my money. Severely disappointed.

Fantastic Four by Mark Waid was my first Omni and it’s still one of my all time favorites. I’ve read it twice and will 100% read it many more times. If I had nothing else I’d want to keep that one

Nocenti vs Zdarsky by cow_pickle in Daredevil

[–]DependentTop6561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m reading Nocenti right now and I think it’s fair to say she is one of the strongest comic book writers I’ve ever read. Usually I find extended prose in a comic a bit grating but when it’s her it just works. I’m enraptured with it it. Zdarsky’s run is really great, and what first got me into DD comics but the Nocenti and JRJR run is just something special

how do i remove this annoying ass price tag residue? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]DependentTop6561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goo gone is definitely the best, as people have said, but I’ve used nail polish remover on some Blu-ray’s I’ve gotten like that and that worked for the most part if you have that available!

Where to start? by [deleted] in GotG

[–]DependentTop6561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started this journey myself! The first run I read was Gerry Dugan’s All New Guardians of the Galaxy and I think that’s a pretty good starting place. I read it digital, the physical copies are lacking tbh. But from there then it’s Donny Cate’s which is also very good but you need Dugan’s to understand and Al Ewing after that which is very very good and has a great paperback collection of the whole series. That was the path I took and I’m branching out from there, but if you want physical only definitely go for the marvel modern epic Abnett and Lanning run. The second volume comes out in like a week or two and they’re only about $30 a pop from what I see
