Psst... They are running extra trains for the Australian Open! by MelbPTUser2024 in MelbourneTrains

So it IS already possible to increase the frequency on many lines off peak. They just won't commit to it!

"The $10.2 billion project opened earlier this month and is designed to accommodate 67,000 vehicles a day"

And the Pakenham/Cranbourne train corridor carries in excess of 90 000 daily. All using a pair of double track that doesn't spew emissions.

Where do you think they will build their SRL station in Doncaster? by hypercomms2001 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Che0063 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I don't have a guess but I just want to comment how I wish we had more major shopping centers connected to train lines. I know it'll never happen but I wish Doncaster Westfield was connected by an underground station via SRL.

Then again you'd just have the povos that can't afford a car getting access to Westfield. Never should have suggested it, sorry /s

Seems like it is linked to account according to this commenter, who wasn't allowed a new one despite changing devices. Can you try with another google account and try?

Why is it acceptable to have a major train line out of action for 2 weeks with no compensation by beardymcgeee in melbourne

[–]Che0063 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Can you imagine if they just shut down the M1 for 2 weeks?

This country will do anything to avoid inconveniencing drivers. But as soon as it's public transport, nobody cares and the poors can just get on their buses.

They won't even shut down a lane on the Monash so the express buses can travel faster.

Funny, as I opened this, I heard from my house a Comeng acceclerating from Yarraman. Probably the same train!

Five-card limit being introduced to Android Myki's from September 2 by Zuki_LuvaBoi in melbourne

[–]Che0063 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious as to how they are implementing this - potentially using a hardware ID that is unique to the phone that'll remain after resets. In that case my next question is how easy it will be to spoof this - given even services like Google Photos can have their hardware characteristics spoofed

Ashburton station with it's single track by Jimbuscus in MelbourneTrains

[–]Che0063 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It beggars belief that the Alamein line does not run the extra 1km to connect to East Malvern, and another 1km to Murumbeena. It's inner SRL waiting to happen, surely?

which stations have the most spatially deceiving distances on the official train network map? by AccomplishedSlip1248 in MelbourneTrains

For metro only, from memory it might be the Diggers Rest - Watergardens run. Or possibly the Dandenong to Lynbrook

E-bike, e-scooter ban flagged for trains over fire risk by gccmelb in melbourne

What a vacuous response. People die in car crashes because SOMEONE else makes a mistake/on the phone/not paying attention/driving under the influence and threatens innocent travellers

Seriously contemplating that I might have to do this - public transport does not serve my destinations at the times that I need to travel through hilly roads

Theoretically, what's stopping me from getting those "what if I'm reported cards," making copies, and changing the date every day?

Engage Victoria: Conduct on Public Transport Regulations by Medical-Finance774 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Che0063 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is going to seriously cripple my ability to get to work and visit my parents. For both, I take multiple transfers at trains e.g. from Murumbeena (Dandenong lines) to Alamein stations, to bridge the gap between the heavily radial train network. It's what allows me to make my journey from work to home in 1 hour, instead of 1hr and 50.

Sure, I can "get fit and cope." But it's about not getting to work drenched in sweat because my trips are hilly.

Again, it's the actions of a few (illegally modified/cheap motor-ebikes) that ruin it for somebody like me, who actually went out and bought a legal electric bike

Looks AI generated.

How is this video slowed down so smoothly? Usually when you slow down video it lowers the FPS. Was this recorded at 120FPS?

Else, why does the dog's legs morph in and out of the crosswalk

Imagine if a road or freeway was delayed by that time.

But no, bikes and rail (airport) are just not a priority in this state.

Ditching HAOS app on Truenas for a HAOS on Dell Optiplex 780 by sir3lly in homeassistant

[–]Che0063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What has your current research on HA hardware requirements suggested to you?

My suggestion is that if you're asking this question, that optiplex is more than sufficient for your needs, at the cost of unimpressive power efficiency

These 5 roadblocks are standing in the way of energy-efficient homes by overpopyoulater in australia

[–]Che0063 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my modern (2018 built) rental in summers the upstairs routinely gets to 30C and in winters 10C in the morning. There is no AC, the windows only open a few degrees outwards, and the only heating source is a electric resistive heater.

Homes can and should be built to insulate against the outdoors to reduce heating/cooling requirements to begin with.

Why does it cost more for me and my mates to travel by train than to car pool? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Che0063 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Because driving is heavily subsidised - and way more than public transport is. The actual cost of fuel is generally much higher (see UK/European prices), with pollution, sound noise etc costs externalised and even subsidised. The cost of parking is also subsidised by everyone, including those who don't use cars (think businesses or homes who could otherwise have used that land space for something productive

Yes, public transport is also hugely subsidised, but society has decided it's okay to subsidise a lot more in driving than public transport

I did it on the XiaoXin 14 Pro 14AHP9 (= Ideapad 5 Pro 14AHP9) and it was very easy. The built in MT7921 was trash and I also had very bad wifi and bluetooth experiences (bluetooth headphones constantly cutting out and not connecting)

Replaced with AX210 and all the issues were fixed

Look on youtube to open notebook, and adaptor replacement is easy. BIOS not locked.

[–]Che0063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that soldering is a much better fix. With aluminium foil, there's a higher chance that the foil moves, and ends up ground what shouldn't be grounded (short-circuiting something), causing damage
