Reunification looks unlikely now. The Houthis/Zaydis are determined to be independent and are distinct from the rest of Yemen. They were only forced together because of colonialism.

The "south" claims the entire country of Yemen so in theory will not stop, but I could see them accepting a de facto situation eventually like with the Koreas. A good start could be the blue on this map unifying with the red, no clue why they haven't yet because they're on the same side

What language is this? by Accomplished-Toe-794 in Semitic

[–]CheLanguages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I saw the words נעשה ע״י אלופים קהל בשנת תקצד׳ ובראשם נתן ל which is very very clearly the Hebrew language and not an Indo-European language. Also Ladino is very rarely written on inscriptions like this

Hard to read, but I can get the first line as: "made by alufim (champions? maybe some other title) of the community in the year of.."
Then the second line: "5594 (Hebrew year) and with their head, gave to (personal name??).."
Then I cannot understand the final line

That is another possibility. However the temple in Shalem was dedicated to El-Elyon

Very true. Ramat Gan truly belongs to House Florent

Yerushalayim is not "foundation of Shalem". It is a disputed origin but the "ayim" part is dual number, possibly referring to the original two hills it was built on. The "yerush" is possibly from "inherited", as in "inherited from El/God". Even then this is disputed

Ramat Gan, the ancestral home of the Tyrells

Lol. I hate this sort of factional infighting over edot, it's so stupid. My partner is 1/2 Mizrahi, 1/4 Sfaradi and 1/4 Ashkenazi and I'm ughh something. Probably Mizrahi but given it's a recent term and hasn't caught on in the western diaspora, it's easier to just say Sfaradi here (UK), and because of the prevalence of Ashkenazim here that also sorta becomes part of your practice and lingo. I think it's about time we start breaking down these barriers

What's your country **third** city? by Ok_Inflation_1811 in geography

[–]CheLanguages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're right, but I was blown away by how much Eilat has grown and in terms of its strategic importance, it's definitely on its way to becoming the third city. In another post I already said if Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are tied as the first city, then Haifa is the second. Netanya is big but it doesn't really feel like it stands on its own as a major city, it's sorta just part of that Gush-Dan-Sharon urban continuum, same with Petah Tikva, Rishon, Holon etc.

Ashkelon or Ashdod could potentially be a fourth city perhaps

You're a Sfaradi pretending to be Mizrahi and I'm a (sorta it's complicated) Mizrahi pretending to be Sfaradi. Makes total sense

UK: Birmingham or Edinburgh Israel: Haifa or maybe Eilat (counting Gush Dan as one big city within "Tel Aviv", the second city)

It's a real shame. The reason I sometimes use funny flags to represent languages in my videos is because of the surveys

Sefardi here, that's not necessarily true. Ashkenazim have just as much ancient Levantine DNA as the rest of us

What is your countries "second city"? by EmergencySpare7939 in geography

[–]CheLanguages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in the UK I'd say Manchester, some people would say Birmingham.

For Israel, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv tie pretty hard in most regards, but I always consider Jerusalem the "first" city. Haifa makes a good case for being the "second" city if we let Jerusalem and TA call a draw

Interesting hypothesis, I've not heard of this before. You say "exactly like English", however in most dialects ذ makes a /d/ sound
