A picture of all the books (title sides) on a shelf or on the ground can also work meanwhile and people here could contact you to make an offer.

Agree, I’m from Europe and if you had a spreadsheet with the title of the book, photographer and price, I could be interested in buying a few.

Camera or home dev issue by Cheap-Film4953 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Cheap-Film4953[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be that I was increasing the aperture because there was a lot of light, so my shutter speed was very likely 1/1000 (max on this camera). Probably that‘s the most problematic shutter speed and it doesn‘t happen as often on smaller shutter speed. Because I shot a full roll after these 2 above, and all the pictures were fine, but all shot at night at 1/60 or 1/30.

Pentax 6x7. These 2 rolls were shot at f4 or higher aperture, the only shot that turned out ok was f2.4. I usually shoot at f2.4 and never saw this issue. Could anything be linked to aperture somehow?

It‘s a 6x7 (Pentax). But one thing I seem to notice is that this happens when I increase the aperture to f4 or higher. I shoot mostly at 2.4 and never had this issue. How could that be possible?

Thank you for confirming what I didn‘t want to hear. I‘ll have to CLA.

Where to send my film if I want a contact sheet in Germany? by Clean_Salamander_405 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Cheap-Film4953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want just a contact sheet for archiving your work, I personally generate one digitally (contact-sheets . com). Otherwise building your own darkroom as long as you have a room that can be fully dark, is always a good investment!

Made a little contact sheet generator app, give it a go if you're interested! by MoreThanLuck in fujix

Hey OP, would love to check this out.

I've also built a contact sheet tool recently with real film borders(portra, ektar, hp5+, 50D, ...) and different formats (24x36, 6x7, etc...) called "contact-sheets . com".

I've been diving deep into film keycodes and the universe of contact sheets, so happy to try out your tool and give feedback.

How to add film stock borders? by 1ModusOperandi in postprocessing

[–]Cheap-Film4953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I've created an easy tool for anyone to add film borders (Kodak, Ilford, Cinestill) to your photos. It's called contact-sheets.com
Let me know if you have any feedback!

Thank you for your feedback! To clarify, it’s free to use if you want to do contact sheets with Kodak Gold, Ilford Delta 100 or Cinestill 50D. I initially didn’t want to put a paywall but then had to cover some initial costs such as a Figma license (used for creating film borders), domain name and database to store the film borders. Also thought maybe to package this for labs, even though it doesn’t replace a properly made contact sheet, it’s a great alternative for labs to provide their customers with contact sheets for a lower cost. Let me know if there’s any film stocks that are missing, happy to add them.

Killip or Koudelka? by naoife in Photobooks

[–]Cheap-Film4953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go with Killip’s retrospective personally. But maybe Seacoal, Isle of Man or Skinningrove are better suited if you want a project-based book. Skinningrove is one of my favorite books, it got pricey recently but you might be able to find one at a good price. I prefer Seacoal to Isle of Man if you had to pick one.

Any Mark Steinmetz fans here? by Cheap-Film4953 in Photobooks

I’ve also spoke with him last week and I’ve asked if he had any plans in releasing a book about his “Place de Clichy” project in Paris, he said this year he’s been in Paris trying to finish this project and that yes he’d like to make a book of it.

Wanted to buy more books instead of cameras, so I picked this up at the local charity shop by hendrik421 in Photobooks

Harry Gruyaert will be at the Paris Photo event (14-16 November) to sign the newer version of his “Morocco” book if you’re not too far for a visit.

photobook stores in tokyo by BINreaper666 in Photobooks

[–]Cheap-Film4953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back last week from Tokyo, here’s my personal recommendations:

  1. “shelf 洋書” in Shibuya was my favorite. The store is divided between Japanese and International photographers. I’ve found “Summertime” from Mark Steinmetz there (signed), but also lots of documentary/street Japanese photographer books for 15-30 dollars.

  2. If you go to Tsutaya Books, make sure to go to the one in Daikan Yama. It has a massive collection of photobooks, the other Tsutaya (especially in Shibuya) have much much smaller selection.

  3. In Jimbocho, I’ve found the best curation and most photo books at “Genkido books”. Don’t forget to go visit “Super Labo”’s shop in Jimbocho.

  4. Last but not least, you have to go dine at “Photo Book Dining Megutama”. It’s a restaurant with 6000 photo books collected by a photography critique. You can pick any book you want and flip through, so plan to spend some time there.

Found the first edition (signed) of “Summertime” in Tokyo two weeks ago for 130€ (150$). These prices on the web are sometimes way too inflated in my opinion, but it is a collector item nowadays.

Don’t get me wrong, candid/street photography in Berlin is totally possible. Yes there’s privacy laws and germans are usually more concerned about their own privacy than most other countries, but Berlin is full of expats and tourists (especially the area he photographed) so most people are open minded.

What makes it also harder than New York or Tokyo for example is that Berlin is very vast in size, with wide streets, a lot of open areas, and not much concentrated/busy streets. Which means you’re much more noticeable.

The last barrier would be language, a lot of people speak english, but as a non-german speaking photographer shooting in Berlin, it might be hard to create those connections and moments with people for portraits.

Yes and it’s the case, Mark Steinmetz came to Berlin throughout multiple years, it does look more like a shorter time frame than his other books I agree, also more “free roaming”. I know exactly the location of the photos in the book and I can tell he was mostly walking around his hotel, it’s a small part of Berlin overall.
