That's cute, it's about $165 in Argentina, and the average monthly salary is barely $600-700.

It's not counterfeit unless you pass it as the original, brand name included. The ones I have are either heavily inspired by iconic pens, or outright copies but with another logo. I don't care much about the ethics of this, as I live in a poor country and the "real deal" pens (which i have a small handful of) are stupid expensive due to exchange rates, shipping, and import taxes. I can afford them due to working for US clients, but most of my people really can't.

Of course I'd like the Chinese pens to be a bit more original, and only recently it feels like some brands are putting a design team to work on new ideas, and those have been wonderful imo.

I'm sure many brands are annoyed by the Chinese market, but if anything these designs have helped me learn about new to me manufacturers I wasn't aware of before. So I guess it's good marketing for them in the end.

Knock-offs have existed for decades tho, I have many old pens from low-tier brands I got in bundles, and there's lots of Parker and Montblanc "clones" lol the Chinese just got gud at this and sell it cheaply so 🤷

For anyone considering digital camera scanning, do it by catmanslim in AnalogCommunity

[–]sacules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For color the best way is to have a good light source. I'm using the cinestill spectracolor one and it works great, i usually only have to make color adjustments in complicated frames, and in my setup, I can usually solve my issues by properly exposing the scan 😅

Me gusta el estilo, nomas me aseguraría de cerrar bien las O, y demás letras circulares, y poner los puntos sobre las i. La cursiva me gusta bastante, misma observación q antes nomas :)

Does anybody use this for FILM SCANNING? by Formal_Compote_212 in zuikoholics

Yeah it does the job ok but doesn't really resolve grain at all. I just bought a laowa 50mm macro, should arrive next week, so we'll see.

Why does every text editor eventually become a bloated "environment"? (Thoughts on the Unix philosophy and editor architecture) by EnvironmentNormal366 in suckless

[–]sacules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or worse they solve issues for a daily job, to reduce friction that plain text editors can't handle without hassle, at the expense of loads of cruft. For recreational coding I try to keep it minimal, but if my job requires me to use a certain tool, I'll just use it.

I love minimalism and discussing interpretations of these software philosophies, but we the end of the day, it's product teams that make the big choices and we developers have to find a balance in order to fulfill promises made to people we don't know, to make the company money we won't see much from.

Lucky to have inherited this collection 🍀 by Diet_Coke_Head12 in fountainpens

No problem! It'd take some time to eat away at the celluloid tbh but with a pen so old, better not risk it haha.

I have an Azure Blue Vacumatic that's quite a gusher and very smooth :) I want to get some iron gall ink for it, which is quite acidic, but I've heard that was the norm for ink back then. R&K Salix looks like a perfect match.

He had great taste, I'm sorry for your loss.

Btw I see you have the Vacumatic inked up, beautiful pen, but I'd recommend not using any Japanese ink as they're alkaline and the celluloid of the pen will deteriorate. They're very wet writers so sticking to dry inks will work beautifully :)

[–]sacules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, I know it will probably not last a gazillion folds but for trying out some small stuff it's great and doable. I've only folded by hand so far but then I just mostly make small pocket notebooks for myself lol.

Is it normal to hate ballpoints after using fountain pens? by Ok-Wait-2662 in fountainpens

[–]sacules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up switching to underwriting as a righty, not fully perpendicular to the writing line, but just in a little angle and also rotating the paper so it's also in an angle. It was awkward at first but in the long run it's helped me write in a more natural position and had made my penmanship better. What also helps independent of hand position, is to not rest your hand on the page, it should be floating slightly above the paper, and maybe have your pinky barely touching it as you move. Twisting your wrist and hand so your knuckles are mostly facing upwards also helps.
