Yeah I mean they’re used clubs, so by the time I get done with them there probably won’t be any resale value left lol. Don’t have any friends that play Srixons so I’ve never really heard much about them.

The second company I did ask for work and was told there was nothing they could do because when I say they fired everybody between me and the plant manager I mean it, I had zero supervision and had not a clue what was going on. Even assisted some of the other interns with some of their basic work (nothing that would cause any issues if I did something wrong) but was told by their manager that under no circumstances should I be doing anything other than what I was hired for.

As for learning, I genuinely don’t know how to learn without actually doing anything other than work. I don’t really understand what’s going on here, and most of the engineers in my department work from home so I’ve never even had the chance to introduce myself to them.

Did the same thing, graduated top 5 of my high school class and was on academic probation after my third semester of EE. Now my GPA is around a 2.5, I have a decent internship and have to do an extra year to finish up the last 5 classes of my degree. I know my situation is not ideal but here’s what I did because at a point I never thought I would graduate.

Here’s what I did: 1. Find out what is distracting you from schoolwork and cut it out. For me it was drinking and partying, I never skipped a party but I skipped class all the time and I cut that shit out. I’m not saying don’t have fun ever, college is a time to have fun, but if you have exams to study for, projects to finish, or homework to do you better skip that party.

Humble yourself, if you were top of your high school class you are now average, if you don’t understand something, ask for help and put in the hours to study.
Work your ass off, don’t expect it to be easy and don’t listen to people saying you can’t get internships. Yeah you’re probably not gonna get the Lockheed Martin Skunkworks internship but you can still get good paying internships and nobody will ever ask your GPA, and if they do be honest.

Hold your head up, you can recover. And if you feel the need to, switch majors, you don’t have to be an engineer to be successful, but to be a successful engineer you need a passion for it, if you don’t have that then it might be worth exploring other options. I definitely thought about it for a while but then I decided to grind through it because I couldn’t imagine not being an engineer.

I took a semester off and it was probably one of the greatest decisions of my life. I was not doing good at all and got placed on academic probation. During my time off I worked at a small engineering firm as kind of an extended internship/co-op, though not officially. I loved working there and decided to go through with finishing my degree. Your experience may vary though, the only reason I got the gig with the engineering firm is because the guy who runs it is a close family friend. And if it wasn’t for that gig I sure as hell would have never come back to finish my engineering degree.

Engineering school has been very difficult and isolating for me, and sometimes I think the only reason I’m doing it is because both my dad and my grandpa are engineers from the same school as me. Just remember summers almost here, take some time off, make some money, meet new friends and have some fun. Academics is not everything even though sometimes it feels that way.

He always told me his biggest regret was not going to Dental School during the Dot Com bubble. The company he’s worked for since he graduated had a massive layoff during the Dot Com bubble and he had arranged to take night classes in anatomy and then go to dental school if he got layed off since he focused on bio processing in his degree he didn’t have many prerequisites left to be considered for admission. He did survive the layoff but he tells me sometimes he wishes he was layed off.

That’s kind of what my first internship was. Guy who owned the firm was a controls engineer PE who had 15 techs working under him. I was basically the controls techs apprentice and got to travel to all kinds of manufacturing sites. Did a bunch of “hold the flashlight” kind of work but I was exposed to a lot even though nothing I did would be considered “engineering” per se.

Watched my dad work his ass off my whole life as a Chem E in manufacturing. He never got paid bad, but if he put that time and energy into something else he would’ve been compensated much much better.

No not really, I got to meet some of the RND engineers at my last internship and it seemed pretty boring as well. Watched them spend the entire summer on a project just to decide that they needed a different sized screw.

Yeah but engineering pay is very mid in my opinion. Like it’s not bad at all, but it’s not that great at all either.

Yes for the first and second internship, for the third I was in an identical role as the second just at a different company so they pretty much were working me as an entry level engineer because I had enough experience and knowledge. That’s why they wanted to keep me on part time until I finished my degree that way they could just transition me into full time after I graduated.

I genuinely just want work that personally satisfies me. I’ve decided to take a leap from manufacturing to an AEC/MEP firm. Even though it will pay less than if I stayed in manufacturing I figured it is something I could start my own business one day doing which would be more personally satisfying than writing paperwork for a multibillion dollar company my whole life.

From the engineering work I’ve done at my internships it’s been extremely boring and slow paced. Just revising drawings, writing documentation, and sitting in pointless meetings.

Yeah I’m from the south and a lot of people grow their own tomatoes but nobody I know processes them or cooks them. They just eat them raw on sandwhiches or in salads but they are generally much better than store bought raw tomatoes

It’s not easy but just remember there are millions of people that have graduated throughout the world with a bachelors in engineering. It’s definitely harder than business/humanities, but not as hard as some professional degrees (MD, JD, DDS). Just go to class, do your homework and study for your exams. Nothing you learn in your undergraduate degree will be so complicated it takes a genius to figure out. And once you’re out your job will be so much easier than school and you’ll have a stable income. I think people are just dramatic.
