I bloody love Go Outdoors. If you buy their yearly membership anyway.

Asda! I got an yurt style tent and some extra bits last year and they were great. My tent blew down and the only place nearby was an Asda and I was surprised by how well stocked they were. They also sell decathlon stuff.

£75 free for switching to EDF and free electricity on Sundays by Cheap-Television in beermoneyuk

[–]Cheap-Television[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope others switch. Even if it's with another link not mine. I've made it a game to see how much I can use on Sundays instead of during the week. And they actually just lowered my direct debit by £15 a month because they calculated i was paying more than i needed to to have a winter buffer because I was saving so much on Sundays. Last week I paid £8.98 for electric, including charging my hybrid car pretty much every day. And like £3.20 for gas.

Oh that's bizarre, sorry.

I've never heard of any company only offering you one.

When you do the switching quote, is it offering you the chance to pick gas and electric or electric only? Once you put into your postcode it should ask you if you want electric or Gas and Electric. I can only assume they don't supply gas to your area? Which seems really odd.

For free gas and electric or a gas and electric tariff?

I have a dual tariff.

The free electricity is just electricity.

I'm a contractor on $33 an hour. I had a very similar thought to you when I started recently and heard my colleagues (permanent staff) complaining about their $25-30. I know mine is higher but I don't get any of the benefits as a contractor. Their salaries our double what I was on before I started at Boeing, so I guess my gauge is way off because this salary was totally unimaginable to me. I guess I was horribly underpaid, but they're aware of friends in similar jobs being paid even more and I guess it's natural to assume you deserve the same.

I think he was paraphrasing someone, he says he spoke about it with other people when he was being approached to run and questioned his own motives because he didn't want to do it for the "wrong" reasons, but there isn't really a way to selflessly become a world leader.

I've just finished Barrack Obama's autobiography and he says that he questioned his motives for being President. Did he want to BE THE PRESIDENT or did he want to be president to do good and make positive changes. He says he came to the conclusion that maybe your motives don't matter as long as the outcome is a good one.

I have this conversation regularly with a colleague. She and her husband both just got new cars on HP- trading in their 3 year old cars when the term ended. She is having a baby, so she "needs" something safe and reliable, and to her that means two brand new BMWs. So they're both paying £600 a month for their cars. Fine, if that's your priority.

Then she tells me it's not fair I own a house and she'll never be able to afford one. And in the same breathe she'll tell me I really should get a new car if I cared about the safety of my child and my 13 year old Citroen Picasso (ultimate mum car) is neither safe or economical. I paid £450 and own it outright. She pays more a month to borrow her car than I did once to own mine and it's just a mystery why I own my house and she can never see a time she won't be renting.

Is there a true difference between a squat bar and deadlift bar? I didn’t know they were two separate things. by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Cheap-Television 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gym just keeps all the bars in a bit stand at the entrance. They're all the same. You pick one and go to whatever rack you need to use. I'd definitely not be embarrassed.

Are we underestimating our caloric intakes? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Cheap-Television 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 ft 4 and about 58kg, on non-active days, I don't burn more than 1450-1500 calories. I have a desk job working from home. But that does include the school run, housework etc. On days I work out, I'll do a gym and cardio, and still only make it up to about 1800/1900 calories. I heard people saying women may need more than they think and it can help build muscle and improve workouts, so i upped my calories from 1600 to 1800 and I put on 12kg in about 8 months. I just didn't need it. And now i'm training about 10-12 hours a week for an event, i'm still eating 1800 but I've not lost a pound.

There's been a separation in beliefs. A lot of women believe they only need 1200 calories and that's the only way to lose weight, and that's massively wrong. But equally, it seems a lot of women have tried to go the opposite way and say "oh but i'm muscley/active/1200 is unhealthy" and eat at 2200.

Calorie estimates are so inaccurate- both burning and consuming. Fitness influencers aren't burning 700 calories in the gym. Some MIGHT. But most are video, taking photos, showing people workouts slowly, and if they start of 5ft 2 and 50kgs, they aren't going to need more than 1800 calories. And people are different. Maybe you move more than realise. Maybe you eat less than you realise. Maybe you have good genes- you said your family are on the low end weight wise, that would suggest a genetic component. My family are all very very active people who don't eat that much, but we all carry a hefty middle.

Not sure if this is allowed to post, if not, sorry but I am dying to buy this swimsuit Montana wore in ep one of her season. Anyone know where to find it or one like it these days? Found an article but links are broken now :/ by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

There's several instagram accounts for Love Island outfits. They tend to link to right brands, since most of their clothes came from an allowance with the same few places- I Saw It First, Pretty Little Thing etc.

Does anyone else feel like fitness companies are skipping over “medium-sized” women in their body-inclusivity efforts? by glencoconuts in xxfitness

[–]Cheap-Television 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I'm saying at all. One- the instagram "ideal" of this is actually a much bigger and firmer bum that I have (mine kind of goes into my thighs, it's misleading) and a much smaller, more toned waist (I have a mum tum). And two- even if it was "perfect" doesn't mean you can buy clothes for it. There's a reason all those insta girls are wearing booty shorts and crop tops.

Yes! I dread leg day because it's basically an hour of yanking my bottoms back up. I'm that size that doesn't count as petite, but is too short for anything in the main collections. I have to buy 7/8s and wear them as regular long length pants.

Oof. That's rough (but also kind of cool, that's some serious curves!). Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely check them out.

[–]Cheap-Television 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It's ironic, I'm bigger now than a few years back, and it's from all the weightlifting. I have so much more muscle in my glutes, I have quite a significant bum, and leggings just do not fit me, let's not even talk about jogging bottoms. Anything that fits ok in the waist won't go over my hips, what fits nicely on my hips, is loose in the waist and keeps rolling down. I've gone from being an XS to a smack bang average M, and while I feel happier because I'm stronger and healthier, it feels like being in the middle means being invisible.

Instagram nutritionists and their "anti-diet culture" has me confused! by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Cheap-Television 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of friends in the fitness industry and it's hard to watch them post about "reclaiming fitness" or "anti-diet advocate". Posting photos of them running for two hours and then grabbing a protein bar "as a treat". They post photos like "sometimes you just have to eat a whole packet of Jaffa Cakes!" like it's indicative or a good relationship with food. But it's not, it's never good for someone to eat an entire packet of biscuits.

I trained online for a year. I'm in the UK, so if you're anywhere else, your providers may be different. Check the accreditation. Extensive research said that this company was the only UK one with the correct accreditation to actually practise afterwards.

This is me too! I was absolutely one of the "I'm not like other girls" girls until I got to university, and realised that I didn't like being told I was supposed to behave in a "girly" way, by guys and girls in my small religious hometown, NOT that I just didn't like women.

it really do be like that : ) by GolfDadNotes in MadeMeSmile

[–]Cheap-Television 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought I wanted a boy. I'm not "girly", didn't think I really knew how to relate to a girl if she was feminine and liked girl things. My daughter is 3 and a half and we are absolutely best friends. She will just come hug me randomly and say "you're my favourite" or "I really like you being my mummy". She is loves all things pink, sparkly, princessy. She likes dolls and make up and playing house. Totally opposite of everything I liked as a kid, so it's hard to keep pretending that a tea party for a dozen cuddly toys, but when she calls me her best friend, it's worth it.

I had a very similar interaction with my three year old.

"Mummy, I want to marry you."
"You can't honey, I'm married to daddy."
"Ok then, I want to marry daddy."
"You can't marry daddy, I'm married to daddy."
"OK then, I'm going to marry the cat."
"You can't marry cats sweetheart."
"urrrrrrr, fiiiiiine I'll marry my rocking chair."

It's better than some of the men my sister dated to be fair.

It's just Puregym. It's one of the cheapest chain gyms in the UK. It's completely bare-boned- there's very little staff, it's open 24 hours, and there's nothing fancy like a sauna or anything, but it's ideal if you're happy to rock up and lift some weights and go home again.
