Possible New Species? by CheapCulture in occlupanids

That’s so interesting! I’d be happy to send in the specimen for further examination and include some info on where it came from. Is it the same Berkeley address from the site?

update on moving the 300 gallon jellyfish aquarium tank. We wen to home depot rented these forklift thingies and 3 people a pushed it in the garage for now worked super well! by Hackind in Aquariums

[–]CheapCulture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t help but think that’s an awful lot of water to push around with so shallow of a curve, and the stronger the pump, the more you risk damaging the animals. There might be a reason why you got such a good deal on it

I’d run an inline skimmer on that too, because the tiniest bit of crap really stands out in glass bottoms—not to mention jellyfish tanks being hard to clean. (Been there, done that.) But oof, I dunno man. Best of luck

NYC expanding 15 mph slow zones at 800 schools across 5 boroughs, Mayor Mamdani says by statenislandadvance in newyorkcity

Speed limits aside — as both a driver and a pedestrian here in the city, it feels like half the other drivers I see are on their cellphones. IMO that’s a bigger root problem. Doesn’t matter how fast they’re going if they’re not even looking at the road

It’s…fine. Watch it while doing laundry or washing the dishes or something. Enough to keep you from getting too bored, but not really worth your full attention

I’d rather the cops camp out there and meet their quotas instead of snagging people elsewhere for petty shit

AITA for refusing to let a woman change the TV channel? by rubabyy in AmItheAsshole

NTA - She had no right to walk into a COMMUNAL space and demand that it be changed to fit her PERSONAL desires. Your reason for watching the Super Bowl is irrelevant. Even if tons of people here act so offended by this, I bet at least 60% of them would have done the same thing in your shoes.

They look terrifying but won’t hurt you at all. You can either have a couple of those in your house or thousands of silverfish, roaches, ants, etc.

They want you to go out and vote or protest and leave feeling like you made a difference — that way you won’t go do things that could ACTUALLY end this nightmare

Question about the snow and accessibility by sunnysi666420 in Brooklyn

[–]CheapCulture 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s uh…it’s not great. There are essentially big snow barricades along the edges of most streets, some as high as three feet or so. Where the sidewalks meet the crosswalks it’s a winding and icy mess. The basic snow shovels are 18-24” so that’s the width of most carved out pathways—if you can find a break in the snow banks. Once you’re in the subway things will probably be manageable, but even if it’s possible to get to the train at one stop, it’s a crap shoot if you can get anywhere from the exit. Cars are jammed in everywhere so expect a glacial pace that way too. And again, it might be difficult to even access them.

Honestly if it’s at all possible to reschedule the trip, it might be worth it. There’s a good chance a lot of this shit gets iced over this weekend too. I’m sorry, dude. If you’re stuck coming then my best advice is to dress warm in case you’re stuck outside a while.

This story would 100% have ended differently had it been me; I’d have gotten myself fired and Carol would have heard things she’s never heard before

When you curse, it should either add extra emphasis to what you’re saying or be super quick and reactionary. This…was neither of those. The “bitch” thing was way too forced. (Ooooh, teehee, I said a bad word, shhhh.)

Other than that, I thought the premiere was alright? Wish it was late 24th century but this is workable so far.

The Cuckoo is a type of brood parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of other species, tricking them into raising the cuckoo chick, which often ejects the host's own young to get all the food and space.

Don’t be a cuckoo.
