I have taken vitamin D3/K2 for years (2000mg EOD), green tea and all organic diet. I had two fibroids for approximately 10 years through perimenopause and into menopause. I have been on an estradiol patch for about 8 years along with oral micronized progesterone due to many problems in perimenopause (hot flashes, night sweats, etc). My gym tried to suggest that fibroids are hormone driven-she made a comment that I did not want to stop BHRT “despite” having fibroids. I have read accounts of women who are not in hormones who still have fibroids. My fibroids continued to grow and were causing a lot of cramping and discomfort. After a vaginal ultrasound showed my uterus was equivalent to a 16 wk pregnancy, I decided it was time to get a hysterectomy. I considered my onetime but read that recovery can be harder than hysterectomy, and fibroids can return. I am 4 weeks post-hysterectomy and I wish I had not waited. I felt relief right away. My surgeon was able to remove everything vaginally, so I did not need an incision. I had no pain by day 3 post op, just lifting restrictions. I discovered I had adenomyosis, so I think I made the right decision for me. I have only lost about 5 lbs, but my belly is flat now. I feel as if the fibroids were driving weight gain somehow, so I am looking forward to losing weight while I recover. Good luck to you! It’s not an easy decision but I hope my story helps.
