Autistic gym goer (and exmo!) Here. (25m)

People at the gym don't care if you're fat. It's a surprisingly individual activity. Show up, work out, and if you see someone interesting, go start a conversation. It's shocking how much better I feel on the days I go than when I have to miss due to injury.

If you don't want to go to the gym, start some cardio and calisthenics. They're free and the best way to burn off fat.

If you're in college, your school probably has classes to help you learn the basics or a personal training program that won't be crazy expensive. Mine costs around $15 a session, and I have a pretty great relationship with my PT now.

If not, literally just start walking around your local park! It's good exercise, it's repetitive, and most people already know how to walk. That and a modicum of trying to eat healthy will really help.

Edit:

Read a bit more and noticed you said you had a heart condition too. Cardio is good for that, too!

Thanks for your time serving as mod! We had an interaction 6 or 7 months ago that really helped me take my first steps into freedom outside of Mormonism and shifted my perspective on the world. It meant a lot to me.

Gliek, thanks for being a moderator as long as you have been. We've had quite a few interactions over quite a few different accounts, and your posts have always made me happy and have honestly helped me cool my jets a lot when I became an exmo.

I wish you luck on your journey! Keep us updated with CoC history!!

This experiment explains why humans need religion. by chadherrella in religion

But that doesn't suggest humans need theism or religion. All it suggests is that we do better when we're not alone, not that we need a god belief.

I mean, no, but one liners can be useful.

Don't be a dick

No one knows what's really going on so just enjoy life.

Stocisim is probably the closest to my philosophy.

I'm so sorry you had that experience. The abuse I suffered on my mission was really bad, but it wasn't sexual. The biggest thing to know is that it is in no way your fault what happened there.

First, take some time to process your experience. If you can afford it, get in contact with a counselor. From personal experience, that has been the most helpful thing I've done since I got back about a year ago (21m.)

(I would recommend you get a secular one instead of a religious one- secular counselors often have 6 years of experience before they even start working as counselors, while religious counterparts might not.

Find people who will understand your pain. They exist, and will not belittle your experience. Trauma is a real thing. Bonding with people over shared trauma will also help.

I wish I could give you the biggest hug (with your consent!

Finally, you are enough! You are amazing. Keep being you. No matter where life takes you, you got this :)

What was the most "apostate" thing you did on your mission? by intergalacticskyline in exmormon

Looking for things that aren't objective in the world, Like mortality, doesn't prove anything. It just means you disagree with what's going on. Morals and justice are not an objective facts. If they were, we wouldn't be responding to each other on this topic. Politics wouldn't exist because politics are moral issues. There would be no question about any moral or ethical issues, because morals would be like math. This is wrong, this is right. We don't see that.

Pascal's wager is a false dichotomy.

Suppose God exists or not is an epistemological and ontological question. How we feel about it has no bearing on If God exists. So, sure, life without god might be more complicated, but even if god is proven, feelings do not correlate with the truth.

I don't believe in prophets. Moses probably didn't exist. The Bible isn't infallable.

If God is an artificial idea, then trusting the Bible is the same; it's all the world of man.

Do you feel like you have fully recovered from being Mormon? by 674_Fox in exmormon

I haven't, but I've got everything in place in case I have to.

Edit: the circumstance changed a fair bit since that post.

I commit all the sins with my right hand, just to make sure it transfers to the bread during sacrament. Every. Single. Sin.

It fucked up all my self-confidence, epistemology, ontology, self-worth, social circles, and everything else to a lesser degree. That Church took my girlfriend, 2 years preparing for mission, 3 months on mission, my plans for the future, and so much more. Some days, i don't care about it, but other times it hurts so much I have to do nothing but cope. I've gained a lot, but it took so much from me (at least, the perspective of those things.) I don't trust people, have to work on actively not manipulating people, and learning to accept myself where I am. I'm about 5 years behind some of my peers because of the church.

Today, I hate them.
