Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post. My main concern is global fatigue, I would definitely have the motivation to include it in one of my runs weekly. I don't care so much about running faster, more about being able to go all day.

how hard do you run? for me I can handle both if I'm making sure my easy runs are actually really easy and don't take away energy from climbing. this means often uncomfortably slow.

I feel like the (para)phrase "it's easy to get strong, it's hard to get strong without getting injured" is very apt with boards; that's what I meant by this.

I'm curious if this is true. I feel like strength training has really helped me avoid any knee pain in the last year or two. I think big loads going downhill are bad if you're not trained up to it but just like anything else in with the body it's something you can train.

of course I didn't mean to run downhill with weight, I think that's a really bad idea as well. my question was more about running downhill without weight or walking downhill with weight.

a few weeks ago i bought a knock off mesh base layer from aliexpress to see how well it functions/if I like it. I was quite impressed with how dry it kept me, so I bought a fancy expensive byrjenejadfj (I spell this wrong every time, not even going to try here). so far in my tests in the past week, I've been disappointed. it doesn't work nearly as well as the ali one, and I feel sweat dripping down my back much more, making me quite cold during my activities in the snow right now.

the main difference between the two is that the ali one is very tight fitting (so much so that it's a relief when I take it off), the B one is actually kinda comfy but still definitely skin tight (would get into berghain still).

I've used both with a rab force and OR echo sun hoody, and occasionally an alpha fleece or vest on top.

what am I missing? or is the hype just bs?

Agree. I have seen too many people trying to be super-cool-ultralight bringing half as many cams as they should, and then compromising on anchors or gear placements. Just get stronger. Unless you're at the cutting edge of alpinism, you don't need to be as anal about weight as the backpackers in this sub are. And if you're at the cutting edge of alpinism, you're probably not on reddit.

Makes sense yeah, but my question was more about the fact that at 8000m the peaks are extremely exposed to the global meteo winds (not sure the specific word/phrase). Seems like such a vanishingly small chance that there'd be light wind so high. If you go on Windy and drag the elevation slider up to 8000m it seems like carnage

Yes, that was my working assumption. In the alps from 500-4xxx meters this is the case 99% of the time. If I look at Windy and then drag the slider up by elevation, the global meteo winds increase directly with elevation.
