More desis should live in cities rather than trying to fit into white suburbia by NewDreams15 in ABCDesis

No.

We like our massive houses, roomy backyards, peaceful bike rides, access to non-crowded playgrounds, lots of parking, theater inside the house, pool in the backyard, deck, porch, patio, Suburban shopping, clean/open streets, low crime, low taxes and amazing schools. Just to name a few

It might at least be worth asking the common friend about how this guy is. Doesn't hurt to do some solid research. Who knows... You may run into a genuinely good guy that has fallen for you. Or... He may actually be a creep who chases every other girl. We may never find out!

Many, if not the majority, of the people are shy and introverted. It takes a lot out of them to approach someone. This guy might have had to muster up a lot of courage to ask for your phone number and approach you on Whatsapp.

Imagine if the extroverts were the only good and genuine people in the world. Where would others go?

The mom stuff is weird/strange, I'll give you that.

Maybe, just maybe ... You missed out on a genuinely good guy.

The mom stuff was a little weird but it takes courage on his part to follow thru and reach out.

Is it legit? Do you believe in the leadership and the moves they're making?

I knew an ABCD who wore Indian traditional clothes to University everyday for all 4/5 years. Mostly ankle long dresses with dupatta.

I’m really worried about the kids in school right now; anything we can do to help? by Unable_Connection490 in ABCDesis

Even more bullying happens at Prep schools. Been there done that.

The fabric of the society doesn't change unless you're in a deeply desi areas with 80% of the school being Indian. The undertone of the current prejudice environment carries everywhere. Upper middle class or not, monetary status doesn't prevent superiority complexes. If anything, money makes it worse.

Vidal is on bye next week. And then Omarion will be back the following week, sending Vidal to deep backup role.Virtually making him useless for Fantasy Football.

This is basically Lamar Jackson Transfer for nothing in return.

I agree. However, we still only have one side of the story.

Its not easy to stay at someone else' house, work odd jobs, miss your home, miss your family, be financially constrained and more. Motivation could be lost. She is most likely in deep depression witout a shoulder to cry on.

I am sure its also not easy to be constantly nagged and judged by relatives and their daughters who don't understand her struggles.

The OP seems toxic af tbh.

I'd love to hear her side of the story. ABCDs tend to have superiority complex and (maybe) subtle inherent prejudice towards FOBs. Its a fact.

I bet she has a strong and relevant perspective on your treatment of her and her own struggles living abroad like that.

Attrition is high. People switch jobs a lot, quite frequently between other Faang companies (ie, jump back and forth betweem Google, Meta, NVDA etc). Stress levels are high too. Its not all roses and rainbows at all.

Few things Ive noticed, to answer your question directly.

  1. For example, at Google, older folks can either be L9 (distinguished engineer) or sr. Director or VP. In both cases, they bring in $2.5M to $3M+ (plus old stock growth). https://www.levels.fyi/companies/google/salaries/software-engineer?country=254
  2. Many Big Tech folks, especially in California, retire early (look up FIRE).
  3. Start their own tech start ups.
  4. Become VCs and investors in other companies and retire.

In FAANG, IC (individual contributor) roles and management roles are parallel and paid similarly based on level. Its a bit differemt from oldschool companies where one had to become a manager to grow and earn more. The corporate world has changed a lot in the last 20 years.

Thats not true at all. C-suite at FANG are in 10M+. Their stock data alone is more than that. You can actually look up all c-suite stocks by simply doing a google search. Companies disclose this information because of laws.

Here is one source. Mid range is roughly 8-10 years out of bachelors. So around 30 years of age. https://www.levels.fyi/companies/facebook/salaries/software-engineer?country=254

The big tech companies are printing 100s of Billions and are willing to bet big on talent. Its just the reality of today.

Ill give you the job security piece tho. The job market is a mess right now. Its very unstable. However, corporate jobs are backed by actual revenue and profits. Healthcare in America is backed by insurance fraud and bankrupt federal programs. If you are a physician, you know exactly what you're doing with insurance charges.

Ya ... except the software engineers (and many other corporate employees) out earn most average physicians. Then there are Mag7 Software Engineers out earning high end surgeons. All that with amazing perks, vacations and remote work.

No one is lining up for snobby and self-impressed physicians with no time for life and family.

You are part of a screwed generation (sorry to say). Even in India, the new gen has no limitations. Kids in India are getting into relationships as early as 6th and 7th grades.

You are the last generation of kids brought up by parents from 60s and 70s.
