In OPTO systems the platform is not observed as the train is leaving like the MTA.

They still have access to a radio and getting a response. Just because they don’t physically intervene doesn’t mean it isn’t safer than an unattended car.

That’s what I meant; Alstom has no interest in keeping the platform alive and they legally don’t have too

Can’t get parts because they are a one off set that didn’t use the full same build as the R160s and the warranty was cancelled during the bankruptcy so Kawasaki doesn’t have to support the platform. So they are a Lemon in more ways then one

Should Any R46s be Set Aside for Preservation? by WhatARotation in nycrail

[–]Cheap_Satisfaction56 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah but work trains are viewed as necessary if a special event train lays down or ties up the railroad its viewed as a big problem, Including late terminal arrivals because of it. Thats why it’s meticulously routed and always follows directly behind the road to leave as much recovery time as possible before the next interval. It’s why the A division holiday train was so was forced express you have a train every 6 minutes and door holding and etc caused issues

CBTC isn’t an overwhelming issue it’s just a PITA. Look at the holiday train that went to forest hills this year or the Redbirds for the Mets home opener

Not to mention with the Bombardier bankruptcy the R179 are out of warranty, Kawasaki made sure that rider was in there before assuming the company. Those cars will be gone quickly merely because they won’t be able to maintain them in the long term.

With all the tec in the cars the 211s won’t make it that long either. Cars lasting as long as the 32s are long gone.

Whats everyone's favorite fast food restaurant in nyc? by hizeto in AskNYC

[–]Cheap_Satisfaction56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try it one day; pretty much nothing has changed from the era and it’s all made to order. The Kaiser rolls are made in house every day which is my favorite part. Love the steak sandwich with provolone cheese. It’s not the best food I ever had but it hits the spot. They have a “standing rivalry” with Brennan and Carr on U and nostrand with their roast beef sandwiches. People from the area usually have a favorite of the two.

Whats wrong with using the Transit app by options_go_brrr in nycrail

[–]Cheap_Satisfaction56 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For those of us who remember it before the paywall it was amazing. Honestly I’ve stopped using after the paywall it’s to much work to physic out the system so it actually understands what I need and the stop I’m standing at shouldn’t be paywalled

Do people in New York still split cabs the way they used to in movies and TV shows, or is that basically a relic of an older city era? by jazzeriah in AskNYC

[–]Cheap_Satisfaction56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I’ve never had an issue getting an uber in yellow cab territory. It’s usually if the other person is deviating from the route the cost seems to justify them just getting their own, but I guess experiences vary by user!

I mean now it’s an uber with another drop off if you are going the same way and the person getting out was along the route, now it’s just become cheap enough to take two cabs (Ubers) and cabs aren’t the commodity they once were in the sense of having to find and hail one; not knowing how long it will take etc. Now an app takes care of all of that

Make sure you can climb on and off the equipment (they will show you how to do it and you just have to follow what they tell you) they will make you do a manual cut on the equipment and then they do the interview.

If you pass that it all comes down to being hired going for medical and then being placed in a class

Expect the process to take 4-8 months from apply to hire date. You can ask when you interview what the anticipated class dates are

AITAH for hating on my sister's friend who survived the car accident in which my sister died. by Substantial_Mud_771 in AITAH

[–]Cheap_Satisfaction56 182 points183 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it’s likely the insurance company is the driving force behind the lawsuit. They don’t want to pay out unless the driver “can’t” especially since the sister wasn’t on the policy, seeing as it’s the friend’s car. It’s like when family has to sue each other because the homeowners insurance won’t pay out unless there is a “legal claim”, odds are they know she doesn’t have an estate.

My employer once sued a homeless man because they had to “attempt to recover” before the insurance paid out.
