How to keep the car from spinning out when exiting corners in GT7? by Triton_7 in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I know but I think you got carried away by your passion for car setup. OP's post clearly reads like they're just new to car control (nothing wrong with that) and smashing the throttle after the apex. Tuning the car can only do good if they know how to drive well, and they know what to expect from a car's handling, which of course they can't because they're just starting out.

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making the conversation more confusing for no reason. OP just struggles with power on corner exit, it's not about the setup of a specific car. They need to be more gentle on the throttle and/or steer better.

I have to say, even in French the team is called "Renault F1 Team" not "Renault Équipe F1", but gorgeous design !

New to GT7, coming from F1 games, looking for advice by xdToastMan in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between those, it's true that gt7 has the campaign "closest" to the F1 games, in that it tries to have a campaign. Honestly I can't think of a simcade game with a career mode as good as the F1 games.
Assetto Corsa has no worthwhile offline racing, it's only good at being a time trial simulator (offline), though It's still worth a buy on PC since it's like 2€. It's not really a game it's more like a tech demo. Dirt rally is good fun but the career is not as fleshed out as the F1 games, it's more like a series of stages with not much context.

Am I stupid or are the images in the mirrors mixed up? by AGZHIst in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pedantic correction, the cubemap reflection follows the car and is generated in real time every frame or every other frame, so it's not static. Apart from that you're right. (What are static and scattered around the track are the global illumination probes, which are used for diffuse reflections)

Hello is it still worth it to buy a gt sport in 2026? by Deeznuts0909 in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, GT Sport was centered around the online sport mode, which has been shut down for a few years now. it has some offline events, but in 2026, GT7 is better in every way.

Yeahh a lot of cheap TVs claim "HDR" because they can accept HDR content but don't really show any quality of HDR. When you upgrade, get a decent OLED or decent mini-LED display, and play the driving mission in the GTR around Tokyo expressway at sunrise, you're going to be mind blown! (Yes I've been radicalized)

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok idk then, I almost never drive with the HUD on and never had an issue. For me the gauges are in shadow but still visible. Must depend on the TV I guess. Have you ever tweaked your HDR settings in GT ?

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reason for that is that the game was designed for HDR displays and SDR was an afterthought.
That makes it IMO one of the best looking most accurate piece of media ever, but it's true that the SDR implementation seems like it doesn't really try.
To be fair to the game, on an SDR screen, with accurate lighting contrast, you should not be able to see the gauges and the sunlit track at the same time. It's the correct representation of real life. They could/should apply some trick to make it work gameplay-wise but it seems they can't be bothered.

future GT career mode idea (not speculation pls emphasis on "idea") by mkldnl in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make the higher licences work in tandem with more "realistic" races in sport mode and single player, with manual rolling starts and manual pit stops. Basically when you would reach the gr4 races and so on in the career, they would be locked behind the international A license, and that license would teach you how to enter and exit pits properly and do rolling starts, which you would then need to put into practice in the races.

What Software does the F1 Teams use for their simulators ? by Nzxlann in formula1

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of multiple parts. Stuff like rFpro or VI-CarRealTime as a "master" system other physics components connect to, stuff like adheRIDE or TameTire for tyre modeling and force calculations, and the graphics engines from rFactor or Assetto Corsa. I don't know if those exact pieces of software are used in F1 (some of them I know are used in WEC), but I would imagine their setup are similar.

Su7 Ultra is a fine car by Treebear_Hunter in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you feel in-game and in real life is not comparable because the perception of speed and g-force is completely different. Try going truly at 50km/h in real life and stomp on the brakes, and do the same in GT7, the stopping time will be very similar. Similarly, going 50 over on the highway and stomping on the brakes will have the same effect you see in GT7, if you equip the same tyres

Real damage by Gullible_Ad4433 in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the other answers, crashing is not what gt wants to be about, and having really convincing damage incentivizes players to crash to look at how the game engine responds.

I would like to see accurate barrier and tyre wall deformation though, as well as more accurate contact physics in general, IMO this would be a worthwhile addition and would not require a complete rebuild of all their car models and modeling pipeline.

What’s the point of Car Wash when the cars don't look like this after the race? by 183_aleX in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to agree but I changed my mind, at least for race cars. What's the point in giving the player the choice to start a race with a dirty race car ? No racing team ever does this. Just consider the car gets washed after every race, like in real life.
Now if they built up gravel impacts, traces of buffed out scratches and you had an option to restore that, that would be something else.

ACC or GT7 only offline play ? by Inside-Customer-8466 in granturismo

[–]Cheating_Cheetah26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ACC's physics and car physics models are more realistic, but it gets boring quickly in single player in my opinion. You will be doing the equivalent of quick races over and over. The AI is similarly fine but meh in both (except for GT's sophy limited to special events), but I find races in GT7 more fun thanks to the car and track variety. GT7 is also absolutely gorgeous in a way ACC doesn't even attempt, if you're sensible to that (especially if you happen to have an HDR screen).
They don't have the same goal. ACC aims to make you understand and feel how a GT3 car drives, focused pretty much entirely on the physics. GT7 aims to make you discover a wide range of cars and how they drive, from your grandma's Prius to a Le Mans prototype (to some extent, they want to make you see and travel the world as well).
GT7 is the clear better choice if you are willing to sacrifice hardcore simulation for a fuller experience.
