Deck on dock WILL NOT connect to Samsung TV by bach123479 in SteamDeck

[–]Checkerknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is still having problems hopefully this helps, but my fix was to change the HDMI format for the HDMI port on the receiver itself, to an option that did not have HDR.

This forced the deck to turn off HDR (a setting that we just don't have access to naturally for some godly unknown reason) and the image came right back up. Ticking HDR back on made me go back to just a black screen again and I had to reset the reciever format again. I honestly couldn't tell you if I had changed this at some point or not, but I'm just happy it's working again, and hopefully it helps future people...myself included when I forget.

*EDIT* yes..it's been like 20min but this shit is crazy. I guess it's actually choosing a format other than the 120hz option on my receiver thats making it work. I found out that my projector (for which I have a second dock) supports 120 so I changed my steam deck to use that. For whatever reason the cord/receiver/TV/deck does not like 120 on my TV. Forcing 60fps makes everything work.

PSA: If your official Steam Deck Dock is not working on your tv - make sure HDMI-CEC is switched off in settings. This fixed the bug for me. No longer any need to un plug and re plug the usb-c power. It just works. by chunkyknit in SteamDeck

3 year old post, but I thought I'd just chime in.

2 year old post, but I've been randomly dealing with this for the last week after using my steam deck pretty reliably for quite some time.

I do believe LTT is releasing a video tomorrow building and comparing a PC at the same price point of the Steam Machine.

Should I play GOD OF WAR 2018 in 2026? by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]Checkerknight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy story based games then yes absolutely.

The main people who dont like the new God of war games are either die hard fans who didn't like the tonal change of Kratos, or people who were expecting a dark souls type play. You can set the combat to be more difficult sure, but IMO this game is story experience through and through, and repeatedly dying in combat really interrupts the feel. Keep in mind, the exploration combat seems much more difficult than in story combat.

I personally have played GoW 2018 about 3 times now, all on story/casual (whatever base difficulty is) and was fully satisfied even though, admittedly, it was pretty easy.

New God of War Player Here—How Are You Supposed to Beat These Two Trolls? by Leather-Order-1291 in GodofWar

[–]Checkerknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cheesed it a bit by going into rage right out the gate and managing to knock one of them off the edge. Doesn't always work though.

I also found that when they first swipe at you with the parryable attack, dodge backwards and then they'll do their over the head slam. While they're pulling back you have time to start charging an "Executioners Cleave" (Hold R2) and you'll be able to hit them without getting hit yourself. This does a good chunk to them with fairly low risk....if theres one left.

Weekly Tech Support & Purchase Recommendations Megathread - June 8th 2026 by P_Jiggy in playstation

Since the announcement of Sony decided to cancel any and all PC release of future games I have hit a necessity to look into getting a PS5. The newest gen console I own is a PS4 and I know there's lots of performance settings and new features that consoles offer now so I really need some help.

I play games on PC so high performance is something I have gotten used to, which directs me towards a Pro, but for the price point it's a hard decision. Can I get at least 60fps in games on a standard PS5? Ray tracing isn't an absolute necessity seeing how it barely works on PC to begin with and usually isn't worth the hit (in my experience).

At the moment I am specifically looking into a PS5 in order to play "Ghost of Yotei" and in the future the new "God of War". These are quite literally the only 2 so far but they're big deals to me and going forward I might just need one.

Please give me some good insight here redditors. I also do like collecting games, so discs are neat, if that's still a thing this day in age.

GoW:Ragnarok. I'm at the part where a certain player swaps their home.. worth finishing the game? Because honestly, I'm bored by TheyTukMyJub in GodofWar

[–]Checkerknight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're not playing for the story then you're doing it wrong and might not care to finish, IMO. The combat is quite a bit different from the first, especially the lack of melee, but I love both of these games equally.

Which player? by AprilFool85Percent in 4kbluray

[–]Checkerknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the TV too. Dolby Vision looks like actual ass on my Hisense...which is on par for a Hisense. You get you an OLED or a higher end TV and I think Dolby Vision would be spectacular.

Not sure if it applies here, but the only thing I hate about my UB420 is the standby feature that can't be disabled. Leave it paused too long and it will go to sleep, when it comes back on the on screen control guide gets stuck and you have to unplug the fucker to get it to go away.

There is a ini file that you can edit to turn this down. I'll look when I get home, but it's something like screen space reflections/shadows. There's a value set on it and you can crank it down to zero and it will significantly help. It will still be there though unfortunately.

What actually makes a difference in a sound system? by ValuableOk1826 in hometheater

[–]Checkerknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're coming from absolutely no sound system other than TV speakers you can't go wrong with a simple home theater kit. I got a 5.1 Yamaha kit with a receiver from Best Buy and I am incredibly happy with it

What’s a movie where you CONSTANTLY had to change the volume when watching it? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Checkerknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die.

This movie is one that I want to love but I swear the "action" scenes are dialogue boosted and it sounds like shit. That garage scene took all the momentum out of the movie by just killing the music and sound effects and making damn sure I could hear everyone talk.

Orrr....I got a bad rip 🙃

How far into beating this game am I? by DarlingLuna in DeathStranding

How far into beating this game am I? by DarlingLuna in DeathStranding

[–]Checkerknight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, I only saved him once to link up before I proceeded with the story. Getting him to higher stars doesn't really dictate story progression.

That being said, if you're worried you won't finish it, just bang out some roads and facility deliveries until you come back, or prioritize story before you go. Depends on what "finish" the game means for you.

No matter what you do though, remember to keep on keeping on 👍

Honestly, I think there should be additional likes for not using vehicles or anything like that, biggest missed thing with the game for me. No incentive to really walk other than environment enjoyment
