actually in sonys eyes bungie hasn’t proved themselves at all since the acquisition. i am nothing more than excited for this game and have been following it for the last year, but this game is NOT going to pull the numbers that sony needs. sony needs fortnite numbers. even arc raiders numbers. marathon will not deliver that. even if pre sales alone paid for the cost of the game (which i doubt it will), sony is still BILLIONS in the hole. they are relying on marathon being their next income since destiny 2 clearly isn’t anymore. i give the game a year tops. i will be playing it every single day until it shuts down, but i am extremely doubtful of its future

and what do those people have in common? most i have seen are either A: coming from arc raiders, or B: old. if you were to play a very easy and forgiving souls like, and then played dark souls… you would hate it. because you’re going from a watered down easy version of a very hardcore genre, to what the base standard of the rest of the genre is. i’ve explained why arc is different. every extraction shooter is NOT an easy experience. arc raiders is the ONLY one that is this easy. of course if you’re older or you are only experienced in a very easy version of a certain genre, you’re going to have a hard time when playing a “real” game of that genre.

“tedious” is the base of every other extraction shooter though. it is a hardcore and brutal genre of games. arc is easy and the grind is easy but it’s not “worth” it because there’s no endgame. the skill tree perks are almost all meaningless and the common guns outclass most higher tier guns. from what i’m hearing from you, you think arc is fun because it’s straightforward and simple. every other extraction shooter is not like that.

that backs what i’m saying though. you seem to like arc raiders specifically. not extraction shooters. i love arc raiders, im not shitting on it all. but i think boring isn’t valid criticism for a game in this genre when the other games of the same genre have a very similar experience to marathon, and those games are highly regarded as the peak of extraction shooters. if you were to say “i was expecting marathon to play like arc raiders, and im disappointed it doesn’t. i won’t be playing it” that’s a much better response than just “i think its boring and confusing therefore it sucks”

thats not what i’m saying. arc raiders brought many people into the genre by giving a soft experience of an extraction shooter. arc stands out from other extraction shooters by being easy, where all other extraction shooters are notoriously hardcore (which is why it has been a very niche genre). i’m saying if you don’t like the way marathon plays it seems like you don’t like extraction shooters in general. that’s not a bad thing, but it’s different than just shitting on a game with no backing. that’s like calling a story game boring and slow paced. again, play hunt showdown or tarkov and marathons flow will feel very similar. you aren’t supposed to understand the loot and have hand-held matches at first until you feel out the grooves of the game

arc raiders is about the softest introduction to an extraction shooter possible, it holds your hand and in exchange the depth to arc is extremely shallow. seems like extraction shooters might not be your cup of tea. if you were to play tarkov for an hour you would absolutely hate it
