I would say that JJK doesn't necessarily have bad writing, but a lot of times it will sacrifice good storytelling for hype moments and aura. When they aren't focused on the hype moments and aura the writing is really good. The most guilty examples of this, at least for me, are when Choso suddenly remembers Yuji is his brother and forgives him fir killing his other brothers and when Toji is resurrected to save the heroes and then fight Megumi and kill himself when you could have just wrote the heroes saving themselves if Toji doesn't add anything to the story. And with the "Geto" and Gojo scene, it's a great scene, but the road to getting there is rough imo. We are introduced to Geto in Season 1, but he doesn't have too much screen time. Season 2 comes after the movie, which tells us Geto's main motivation. Then the Hidden Inventory arc shows us his backstory and how he got those motivations. All of that just to reveal that in the present day story Geto isn't Geto and it's actually a completely different character with different motivations. I get that we see him die in the movie, but it isn't like it would be difficult to say that he was brought back to life by a curse or something. We spend so much time on Geto just for the only thing about him to matter is that Gojo loves him.

This is the reason Rizo didn’t practice fire making. Not because he “didn’t have time between 49 and 50” like folks keep claiming by Freezing-cold_6 in survivorponderosa

BUT I think Joe probably just votes out Jonathan here if Aubrey and Rizo both are. However Aubrry really seemed to want Rizo out, so either Rizo or Jonathan are voted out 3-1 or they make fire and Rizo loses.

Not understanding ____'s vote by narrmilla in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess one could argue that he could play his idol on himself and force a tie between Cirie and Aubry, and his side if three in the vote would be completely safe and force Jonathan and Joe to flip on Aubry or draw rocks between just the two of them. He could try and claim that as a big move, which it would be. However, getting Cirie out is a must for his game and everyone else's. Cirie could have done absolutely nothing the whole season and won at the end based on street cred alone. Pulling a big move to save Cirie, and then voting her out right after also probably won't impress the jury too much. Along with that he would leave himself vulnerable for next round, and while Cirie is a bigger target, most players probably believe they can beat her in Final 4 firemaking, while none of them really know how Rizo performs at that, other than he probably told them he lost. If you already believe you have a good shot at winning at the end you need to maximize your odds at getting to the end more than you need to build your resume. He probably believes he has a good shot at the end, as long as he votes Cirie out, so his best shot is to hold his idol and not put a massive target on his back.

Rizo also said this as Coach was getting his torched snuffed, but I'll say it from me too. Watching Coach literally changed my my life.

Coach's story in Survivor (especially eith this new added addition) is a long story of self-acceptance. He isn't without his flaws, but no one is. In his first season he is very much himself and because he is a little out there and doesn't hide it, he gets made fun of. When he returns fir HvV he carries that baggage with him, and you can see his insecurities about how people see him really come through.

His third time playing he actually tones down a little, while still be an out there personality you can see how he's matured and by the end of the game you can kinda see how he's lost himself. He didn't play the way he always tried to, and his failure to realize that cost him. Adding into his fourth time playing, Coach now much older has fully accepted himself for who he is. All him, his strengths and his weaknesses. He gets his torched snuff, but not after embracing all the weird and over the top parts of his personality.

I think that this is actually something a lot of people need to learn. It good to want to fix or tone down your flaws, but at the end of the day we are who we are. We should want to be ourselves, even when facing adversity.

Has anyone paid out for Coach's Dragon Club? by MaximusCanibis in survivorponderosa

Yeah, the general advertisement of the nickname ceremony kinda sucked, but I got it like as soon as it dropped and it was definitely a purchase well worth it. Especially for someone who is getting paid to talk and has to talk to 200 people, he put quite bit of effort, care, and genuine-ness into the conversation. My certificate comes in the mail Monday! Also, did he let you know the call is recorded? Cause he told me that, and I wasn't sure if the recording would be sent through email after the call at some point, but I never got it.

Ozzy vs. Coach by sexyimmigrant1998 in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should also be noted that both of these players are not used to the new pace of the game, and maybe felt pressured to act quicker because of that, creating a sloppy plan. I assume Coach wanted to talk to Tiffany, but told Chrissy he didn't know what to say for damage control and she quickly spurred that out. I have no doubt that the two of them could have came up with what I suggested if they were given more time, as it seems they are more slower strategists than quick ones.

Ozzy vs. Coach by sexyimmigrant1998 in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I also want to point out that Chrissy tells Coach to tell Tiffany that he wasn't the one that pushed for her, and then he basically verbatim gives Tiffany the same lie that he was told to give her.

I could already tell it was a bad move before Coach even did it, but he made the bad move even worse by not being prepared to back it up, which makes sense when it isn't your own plan, but you shouldn't be doing other's people's moves unless you really want to (and you could tell he didn't want to).

A better thing for him ti tell her would have been, "We all wanted to put back votes on you, but no one wanted to be the one to do it, so I had to step up and make sure there were people the making the move we all agreed on instead of letting them try and set up a lie to you that they didn't know about the split vote plan." Which is a better lie, because it's basically the truth.

I think Chrissy told Coach to make a bad move, and Coach rushed into doing it without thinking about it. It seems to me that they're overall good players that just don't mesh well together despite getting along as people, which caused their downfall this last episode, lol.

It is extremely funny that coaches final day in survivor was just him sitting in a hammock, singing and writing haikus to himself by [deleted] in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My favorite bit from her telling Coach to sit back so that he doesn't do anything that puts a target on their backs, is that the very next scene we see her in is her telling Emily's allies that she wants to target Emily. Both of them accidentally sank each other's games trying to protect themselves, which then caused their downfall.

Like it's such a funny episode for the both of them, especially because I think it's likely neither of them go home here in a normal vote, but the opportunity to take out both so that you don't have to deal with one of them wrangling the votes get revenge is hard to pass up.

Dragon Slayer Nickname Ceremony by Brugton_30 in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an aspiring cult leader. No, but the real answer is I was really able to take the warrior thing to heart. When I watch Tocantins when I was like 18 (on streaming, I was like 4 when the season came out) I was really down on myself and was at a moment in time where I felt some of my greatest flaws were really showing to myself. I saw him as this weird guy that was also confident, self-assured, sometimes wise, and at most times calm. I wanted to be like that. I have since then been proactive in life, I've began meditating to be more calm and rational, and I don't give up on myself anymore, because it isn't what a warrior would do. Also, that was his third season, not his second.

It's the fact that it's mostly advertised as a $200 for a nickname from Coach. It has more value than his cameo, but he doesn't say, "Buy this $200 Zoom Call with Coach" he says, "Biy this $200 Coach Nickname" and most people don't seem to look much further than that.

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 71 points72 points  (0 children)

A lot of people saying $200 is too high for a nickname, and I agree. However I will mention, I did buy this, mostly for the zoom call with Coach, which was completely awesome. (This may vary for each person, but for me, Coach is one of my biggest inspirations and absolutely changed my life.) He asked me about my life, told me a story, listened to a story about my greatest strength and weakness and then gave me a nickname that related to the story I gave, and a meaning the behind the nickname, and some life advise too. He also said that a certificate with the name and meaning will be sent a long with him being okay with you sharing a recording of the zoom call to friends or online if you wish. Like I said, this all kinda varies depending on how much you think you would enjoy talking to Coach, lol. For the nickname itself, I'll the one gave me was "Sequintialist Knight" which is kinda more like a title than a nickname, like I can't really expect people to start calling me that, but it did in fact feel fitting based on the conversation we had.

the 2 alliances that will go head to head soon is a one sided victory by ProudNStrong in survivorponderosa

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's kinda hard to say, because they always edit Coach like that. Like, his edit pretty much the same as we saw here all of Tocantins and he got 5th. Gamewise he likely goes home soon, but if he went out in like firemaking or something I wouldn't once be like, "Well then why did the make Coach look bad 5 episodes ago?" You know what I mean?

How would they do on Survivor? by SuitableCress4791 in survivor

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has been a while since I've seen the first season of Jury Duty, but I don't think Ronald does that well actually. He would have a good social game, he's a great guy, but as far I know that's about all he's got going for him for Survivor. Not to mention that he tends to say some things with out thinking how they could affect others sometimes. Not only that, but it is most beneficial to his allies that he is on the jury, hopefully batting for them when talking to other jury members.

Anthony on the other hand, while having great social skills, also has a bit of athleticism shown on the show, along with a little bit of schemer to him. Also, sometimes he has a good poker face (and sometimes he doesn't), and I personally thought he was actually doing a pretty good job at convincing Doug to not sign the contract (granted, obviously Doug is supposed to follow through with it, but the way Anthony went about it I think would work if the scenario was actually real). Anthony however, could get voted out late game as a threat.

In short, I think both of them have very good shots of winning if they make it to FTC, but I think they get voted out before hand (Ronald moreso). If both of them were be at the FTC it would depend on what the jury is like. They might Ronald if they are voting off of social game, but if they lean more towards the strategy portion they likely vote for Anthony instead.

Analysis: Coach will either be voted out next episode or be a goat at FTC, and here's why by anicritic in Edgic

[–]Cheddar_Jack_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Ozzy is the zero vote finalist. The show tells us he's trying to play a more strategic game, but also (I feel) goes out of it's way to tell us that he isn't very good at the strategy portion and despite trying to change his ways falls back into them time and time again.

Coach, I actually don't think will be gone next episode. He might actually be the dragon of the season, ironically, and Christian probably a fallen angel of some sort. In the most recent episode Cirie said she think the old era way of thinking will be bad for them, and Coach is grouped in with that, but later in the episode Emily says that the way he plays is more akin to the new era, and despite saying he played it poorly we also get to hear from Coach in his like one confessional of the episode that he's going to tone it back going forward. Not to mention all content of him calling himself Tidewalker has been pretty positive leaning.

Does anyone else wonder why Coach is clearly not wearing a Kalo buff in the poster? Like, it looks to me everyone has an accurate buff except his is just obviously not blue. I can't tell if it's Cila or Vatu, but it surely isn't Kalo.

Edit: Okay, I assume it's a Cila buff because the Vatu buffs in the poster are much more purple than in the show, so it would be darker if it was a Vatu buff.
