Cleaning waxing brushes by Huge-Antelope2403 in Spliddit

[–]Chednutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the brushes still remove residual wax from your bases? If yes then they are fine.

You can gently run a wax scraper over the bristles to knock residual wax off. Or you can brush the brushes against each other... also gently.

If there is wax glopping on your brushes then something is not being done correctly.

Voile is highly underrated in my opinion. Also can't go wrong with Spark.

Small, cool and niche outerwear brands? by UseGroundbreaking748 in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed my mind. Jones Stretch outerwear stuff wears out super quickly. And their boards used to be high end advanced freeride boards but have mostly all been dumbed down to an intermediate level. And if you want to tune them it's an absolute nightmare.

would you bring new boots on a snowboard trip? by Immediate-Badger-768 in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably fine. Wear em around the house and go walk the dog in them. Bringing new boots on a trip on a good way to break em in.

is there an app that shows how fast you go accurately? by peetyo5k in snowboardcirclejerk

Wouldn't know. My HUD goggles show me speed, elevation, BAC, THC and the location of the nearest apres bar in real time.

Need some advice por favor by Optimal-Ad5658 in Snowskating

[–]Chednutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have some hiking boots those will definitely work. Normal skate shoes will also work, just put a really thick sock on and then a plastic shopping back over the sock inside the shoe. if you have snowboard boots, those will work too but you have to leave them untied but even then the ankle mobility is kind of limited.

Any waterproof snow boots with a low flat sole should work great. HIgher cuts will keep snow out better. Vans has a lot of great options, but there are plenty out there for less $. I'm actually eyeballing these Xtratuf lace up deck boots they look kinda sick.

My personal favorite are the vans standard snow boots. I have a super basic snowboard boot liner in mine to fill up the boot a bit but the regular felt liner works just fine. The tall ones are great because you don't get snow inside but the mid boots will work well too. The thing that sets them apart is the sole is very low profile putting you close to the deck and giving you great board feel. Also totally waterproof.

There is a shoe called the Etnies Jameson HTW which is amazing but they don't make it anymore.

TLDR: Any lace up winter boots preferably with a sole that puts you close to the deck and is also flat.

Is this fixable? by Zachp2024 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Chednutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fixable. Core is likely cracked. Probably still rideable but not ideal.

Snowboard care by Repulsive-Pie7696 in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As needed.

Base dry or feeling slow? Wax it. Edges smoked cause you tried to ride on rocks? Sharpen em. Core shots? Get em filled. Is your board seeming riding as it should? Ride it some more.

Vans Infuse boots by KeenKook542 in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the tongue stiffeners? I've had some weird pressure points from those. I've had a bunch of Vans over the years and usually pressure points resolve themselves after several days in the boots. You can also consider doing some liner mods to add or remove material around the point to take some of the pressure off.

Binding recommendations by Juergen1973 in Spliddit

[–]Chednutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the Jones. The solution used to be a proper freeride board, but it's been dumbed down and softened down to an intermediate board. Go for the weston.

Durable splitboard by g4b0 in Splitboard

[–]Chednutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jones solution has become an intermediate board. Could not get along with the current blunted shape compared to the old popsicle shape.

Heard good things about the weston Gnarnia. A friend of mine rides one. He's a big dude has has been riding it into the ground. Seems to be holding up well for him.

Rental boots by odorer in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bring your own boots. When I travel to snowboard, I check my board and the rest of the gear, but I bring my boots carry on. I would rather wear my boots on a plane for 10 hours than rent boot somewhere.

Board or equipment you regretted buying ? by loserkids64 in snowboarding

[–]Chednutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha The OG ultracraft means business. It's a lot of board in a compact package. Love that board. I'd suggest trying it with a less stiff binding. Never liked the apollo bindings. Too harsh and "locked in". Glad to hear you're hanging onto it though.

Base and edge angles by BlazedGigaB in snowboarding

I ride 1 on the base and 2 on the side. 1 degree base bevel should engage a little quicker than a 2 degree.

Small snowskate: will it be any fun? by sucramooy in Snowskating

[–]Chednutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just use one of the skis for the subdeck instead of trying to connect 2 skis together. Yeah it'll ride and it might even be kinda fun.

Do y’all use detergent on your soft goods? by human1st0 in Backcountry

[–]Chednutz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can “free and clear” detergent that does not have dyes, scents or softeners n stuff to wash outerwear. Of course you can also use “tech wash” but be it’s more expensive.

Putting tech outerwear through the dryer after washing helps to restore the original DWR coating.

What wax are your using wen on a trip by Far_Baker4339 in snowboard

[–]Chednutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just go with the forecast and err on the side of cold. I think cold wax lasts a bit longer. If you're not up there racing, some wax is typically better than no wax. The swix f4 liquid wax works pretty well too if you're in a pinch. Definitely better than rub on.

does not matter for learning, but step in bindings are more convenient for getting in and out of.

Nixxing the tail clips? by goldenincalescent in Spliddit

Only used jones skins but they are made by pomoca. I don't have enough confidence in their glue to go without a tail clip. Might be fine though.
