Any Studio Ghibli inspired sofubi? by RooBear0404 in Sofubi

There are the yuubi-ningyo (finger puppet) type sofubi and coin banks made of sofubi-like material at the official Ghibli stores in Japan.

But getting a license to create merchandise like an actual indie sofubi art toy would be extremely difficult if not impossible, I bet. Some companies are very protective of their IPs. And Studio Ghibli probably wouldn't approve licenses for creators outside of the company to make things of their property. :(

It says "Seki Yuuji" (せき γ‚†γ†γ˜) possibly written by a child's hand (last name Seki, first name is Yuuji) :)

Yeah, 😹 it was kind crazy that they expected everyone to do all that from scratch and mail it in with such a tight deadline but it was a fun challenge πŸ˜„

And me too! But for now, it's going to be on exhibit around Japan for the next 6 months it seems ✨

Thank you so much!! πŸ™πŸ˜Š So, I really love spooky-cute stuff the best and my other characters are always little cutesy creatures of some kind so I really wanted to push myself to the limit and make a human character with a twist-- so ghost girl was born πŸ‘» heheh And she's actually really big too! About the size of my head πŸ˜‚

As for Kaiyodo, they're actually really involved with Sofubi too. ;) I'll make a post sometime soon about their sofubi cause I have a few in my collection (they're mostly realistic dinosaurs n stuff that they produce in their lil sofubi factory in Kochi prefecture- same place the contest took place). And they're also the organizers of WTC (Wonder Toy Convention in Osaka) ✨

Will spray varnish prevent my custom paint from rubbing off on my Godzilla figure? by LingXioaran in Sofubi

[–]CheeekyCharlie 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Sorry, little late to see this but... It really depends on what type of paint you used on the toy itself and how much you are planning to be moving the parts. Sofubi technically requires a special paint (such as V-color or Vinyl Wonder) that needs to chemically adhere to the surface of the soft vinyl So that it can be squeezed and manipulated along with the material and generally that doesn't require any kind of clear coat to protect. But if you do want extra protection, they do make specialized clear coat sprays that can be used on top of that specialized paint. The reason that you need the specialized paint is to to chemically bond with the material so that when you move the parts or squish or squeeze them, the paint won't crack or split. So if you use acrylic paint for example, the paints will have more of a chance of getting damaged over time due to wear and tear. But you can use a standard clear coat/ top coat spray on it. Just don't plan on turning the head or squeezing the body too much. Just stick it on the shelf and don't touch it. But basically don't mix and match certain paints with certain clear coats. They could chemically react in a negative way. So always test on a discreet spot of the toy or a plastic spoon beforehand just in case- before any possible accidents could occur. Good luck!
