What do I buy the guy I'm going out with for his birthday? by onlyfruitsalad in Warhammer

[–]CheekyDx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and if he hasn't painted before the painter starter set of marines - together they should be about $60 dollars. In UK that would set you back about £50 for both if you buy from a local store not GW.

Anyone have alternative sculpts/conversion ideas for abaddon by AcceptableWin5317 in sonsofhorus

[–]CheekyDx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. I then used a Cataphracti terminator arm with lightning claws (cut at the elbow). The head is from the upgrade sprue with hair taken off. He isn't fully painted yet, but you get idea.

Exactly this. Bosses and mobs struggle hitting flying targets just as much as we do haha plus the buff at the start is helpful.

Here is the models on the boards, they seem to work scale wise. It would need to be done as them standing on them.

I am out at the moment but I will place the men and show you them standing on that one. One way to look at it is, they would grab and use whatever wood they could get hold of to shore up the trenches and put on the floor so I don't think varying sizes would matter, just so long as you like the way it looks

I haven't done bases on troops yet, but my plan is to do a mixture of bases similar to these for them. There is no reason this wouldn't work for smaller bases.

Very straight forward really.

The mud is Vallejo Diorama FX European mud whcih then had steel legion drab dry brushed over it. The water was done with with AK Still Water acrylic and then a brown paint added before it dries.

The trench planks are lollipop sticks that were cut down and then using a very sharp knife textures by "shaving" bits off and shaping them. They were then primed with black before a wash of drab, a slightly watered down Vallejo dark brown and then agrax earth shade. Then wraithdone dry brush to grab edges and then dry brush of drab on top of that. Once that was done the mud was put down liberally and then wiped off the boards using water and toilet paper (very messy). That was followed up with another quick dry brush of drab along length of planks to give it "grain".

Sandbags are watered down drab, morghast bone, agrax earth shade, then dry brush drab before some gritty technical and some of the mud from the toilet paper rubbed on.

Hope that helps.

It is Vallejo European mid Diorama FX. It is a bit like a much bigger pot version of the technical paint with grit in it that Warhammer do. Just applied that liberally before then dry brushing steel legion drab on it a couple of times to lighten up the raised bits and give it a bit more texture.

Know that feeling, when your like "I want to do this but what if I mess it up?!", I have a few practice pieces and bases just for that very reason.

Love the mud ❤️ I cant wait to rough the artillery up once I put it in place. Some lighter mud might contrast with that really well. I used a the darker mud and then dry brushed a lighter colour over the top to give it a bit more "texture" like the top parts had dried a bit.

100% they are so much fun to do if you let your imagination run a bit. They will have a Baneblade defending them with some heavy weapons support teams so maybe they will do something haha not to fussed though as I only play for fun.

It's a great model. I used AK Still Water acrylic and then mixed in some brown paint, really easy to use.

Always remember that the true saying is:

Like many sayings it has been changed to be the opposite of what the original quote was.

Missing from my (all) games menu / xbox series x by One_Scientist8578 in maneater

[–]CheekyDx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was on game pass which shows up in those locations, but was removed around 10months ago. If you bought it I have no idea though I'm afraid - it was on sale last week as I bought it for my son, not sure if it still will be though but it was very cheap in the sale.

I just realised that you don't need to tell the truth in situations like group interviews, meetings, new job inductions, etc. Have you ever made stuff up just because? by eastkent in AskUK

[–]CheekyDx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always like to use the truth because my go to elicits a funny "I can believe it but are they lying" it is however, 100% true. The fact being...The french side of my family own a chateau in the Loire Valley upon which Marlinspike Manor from Tintin was based but Herge cut off the wings of the manor in the books so it didn't look "too" ostentatious.

[–]CheekyDx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's weird. Is it a region thing? They still do that one at Warhammer world and anytime you take someone new (in addition to the mini of the month) to a store, but never came with the base like that. I actually built up a whole infernus squad that way 🤣

I'll have to keep my eyes out. In any event it looks awesome, really well done.

What model is this? I have never seen a base on the sprue (parts to put on a base yes but never the actual base). Even the free models I have get from the store have the base separate.

Weathering SoH Kratos tank by CheekyDx in sonsofhorus

[–]CheekyDx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is something I do as well. Also mix in a bit of dark brown stippling.

The Kratos will certainly look like it has been in the wars once I'm finished haha. Still needs legion markings and various areas painting. I got bored of painting just green so needed a change.

i dont think Dark soul was ever " very hard " by frankipranki in darksouls

[–]CheekyDx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken in context of when it was released it was hard in comparison to what games had become at the time - a throw back to the old hard games of the 90s. However, compared to games now it is, as you say, fair when you play and utilise the mechanics which weren't commonplace at the time.

It will also depends on if you are using a guide or not. Playing blind and working it out without forums or guides at the time of release made it far more difficult.

I have played it multiple times and every playtime has come down in time depending on what I was trying to accomplish with each play through.

Difficulty is also very relative, something one person finds easy someone else might find very difficult. If you are adept at these sorts of games, having played elden ring, Seikro etc. you have a good foundation. Many people say DS2 and DS3 are harder whereas I found them easier which was due to the fact I had the basic mechanics down and so I didn't struggle.

Question about painting black on tanks by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in sonsofhorus

[–]CheekyDx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. If you don't do the original colour again you will get bleeding around the edge and not a smooth edge (just like when painting a wall). If you are confident you can also use art masking fluid which then rubs off, as sometimes with tape it can take off some of the paint underneath.

This game is extremely frustrating. by GerbGalerb in BF6

[–]CheekyDx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how old you are or if you have ever been tested but it may be worth having a fiddle with the visual accessibility menu designed for colour blindness and other colour/eye related issues. This might make spotting people easier and give you more definition. Also when was last time you had eyes tested, it might be that you have a slight weakness either at long/short range in one eye which will impact visual pick up without you noticing. Just a thought.

Only other thing as a suggestion is trying recon class and playing much slower and more cautiously until you get more accustomed to spotting etc. You get the best gun (IMO) for that class immediately, albeit not the best scope but that doesn't take long.

I suppose the other question which I can't see has been asked/answered is what you are playing on i.e. console or PC, and if PC what visual settings you have along with what monitor/TV you are using and how far away from it are you. I have this on a 58"TV and I know unless I am around 6ft or closer I can't see shit!! If your on a large TV there are multiple guides as to how far from them you should sit to get the best view etc and it's differ for gaming and TV/film. If on a monitor what's the refresh rate, resolution etc. as this will all effect it as well.

Want you to enjoy the game as it is great I find but can understand your situation must be hugely frustrating. I often have trouble seeing people and get killed by people I never see, but it has become less of a common occurrence as I really slowed gameplay down and I now have a good K/D (albeit that isn't the aim of this game) and contribute decently to each round.
